I get the appeal of AJJ, but he definitely still has a ways to go. A stat I found interesting: In 206 minutes this year, he has committed 38 fouls. In those same minutes, he has 5 total steals and blocks (and they're all steals). That is 1:7.6 stock-to-foul ratio on the season. Not great, Bob.
With the fouls, obviously hes brand new so theres some learning to do. But im not really concerned with high fouls in low minutes. He knew he was only playing 10-15 so he could be more aggressive. When he started recently and played 30+, his foul rate declined drastically and he made it practically the whole game before fouling out. Ive heard him talk about defense and you can tell he loves the process of figuring all this stuff out, so i think its just a matter of time. Also, I recently saw some UConn fan on twitter talking about how Andre couldn't stay on the court because of fouls his freshman year, but by his sophomores year had figured it out. ...so thats good
The part that does concern me is his lack of blocks and potentially his inability to bother shooters on contests. Often, i see him in pretty good position, but his man still makes the bucket. Its like watching pj on kd in the playoffs. Obviously, theres a long way to go, but this is my only real concern at this time.
