Ron Swanson wrote:I guess he's hit 12 of his 13 FT attempts so that's a positive sign? Honestly have no clue how/if he's gonna translate still. I don't think he really has good passing instincts as much as he's a dude that can just effortless blow by a defender and create these "drive and kick" opportunities.

The shot mechanics aren't terrible but we really need to see him crack 30% from 3 at some point.

I said what his actual #'s are and for some reason you ignored that and relayed his fake ones. There are 2 segments to the season. If you combine them, he's already cracked 30% from 3 (31.7). And he's 18-19 from the line. He's entered respectability.

AJ w/ possibly his best game yet - 9/15, 3/4 from 3, 21 pts, 5 assists, +17. Here's another spectacular dunk:

Get AJ a few minutes with the big club. I feel like his energy could help us.

The progression of his game has been visible this year, especially his finishing around the rim. If this was the beginning of the year, he would have thrown that ball over the backboard. Better body control and absorbing contact much better.

That's really impressive. Maybe I should have considered my future all star prediction as a floor for him.

Also when he's a G-League all star I'll take my flowers then, thanks.

Coach Udrih has been very tough w/ him lately, benching him for a mistake or two, then leaving him out for almost entire halves. When he comes back in he plays sheepishly and simple. It seems to be over-doing it.

I think some of the wildness needs to be weeded out, but he shouldn't be reticent to shoot half open shots & use his speed to get into the lane. He does seem more dialed in on d. Was playing better on the offensive end before this, though inconsistent.

This right here is why I never would include him in any trade. Once he puts on some weight and strength those dunks will be more frequent. I mean he weighed 165 pounds at 6’5 even if he gets to 190 or so he will be a special player just turned 20 too. I would like to see him play with big boys before the playoffs to see how he does.

Really more of a 180 though to be fair. Much like the Jamaal McGloire "360 blindfold" dunk. AJ's is a lot better though clearly.

Theres so much going in between what coaches are telling him and what he is thinking, much of that we dont have access to, that its hard to really judge what we see

But im going tp do it anyway. Why is he so hesitant?

Well, what are you going off to you say that - watching a couple games recently?

I addressed a few posts above what's going on that could make him passive, when he was on the other end of the spectrum.

To be a different kind of fair, outside of professional dunkers, I don't think I've seen many true 360 dunks.

4-6 from 3 (up to 36.4% on season). Hit a big, difficult one late as the dagger against Birmingham. +9 on the night. Plenty of good finds, more today off the drive. Running the o well. Played OK on D. Did finish weakly inside & no middie. 5-13 overall.

Ben O'Drih, do you remember what it was like to be young. Well do you, punk? Do not envy the lively legs you never had, Oshkosh has suffered long enough. Keep up the hard ass routine and find the business end of Lake Beautymore (sp?)

AJ looked good last night. Drive and dish game was on point. He still just kinda throws the ball at the basket when he tries those acrobatic layups and finger-rolls, but getting stronger should turn some of those into easier finishes.

Not sure where he ends up on the Bones Hyland <> Maxey scale but he does share some unique tools with those guys

The biggest difference is both those players are 6’2 where AJ is very long 6’5 with that speed he just needs to get stronger. The sky is the limit for him now does he have Giannis drive to be great and put in the work here’s to hoping he does.

Getting stronger will go a long ways for him. Even in that clip that Matches posted, a little more functional strength and he's probably able to use the dribble hand off better and turn the corner immediately instead of being bumped out wide and having to dribble back out. I don't need him to turn into a Giannis freak physically, but just some functional strength would help a ton. MCW had the same issue (among others) and by the time he got the strength he needed, injuries had already kinda effed him anyways (talking like the Orlando years after he had already flamed out with us).

FWIW, the Birmingham play-by-play guy was pretty effusive in his praise for AJ throughout the broadcast. Kept mentioning how quick and athletic he looked compared to everyone else on the court, and how the "Bucks really got a special young talent" (paraphrasing). Other people are taking notice.

After showering some nice progress lately, AJ Johnson scored just 2 points in 23 G League minutes last night on 1-7 shooting in the Herds loss.
