Don't think Dion would be alright with us getting Ben McLemore.

Eh, I'm not sure that Mark Price was happy with us drafting Kevin Johnson either. Doesn't really matter, it's all about getting the best players and making the best team.

Re: Our pick in the 2013 draft - early prediction
McLemore would be such a waste of what's likely to be our last high lotto pick of the rebuild. He's not good enough to warrant adding redundancy when there are likely guys like Len/Porter to be had, both of whom fit this team's direction on the court and in the locker room far better than another 2 guard who doesn't even have above average handles, which you NEED these days if you're going to be anything other than a spot up shooter. He's got a nice stroke, sure- but the Ray Allen comparisons should cease immediately.
Moving forward with Zeller/AV at center and meanwhile drafting 3 guards in the top 5 that are all under 6'5 would be a tragedy... Not that AV isn't a damn good center, but I've been longing to see him be our 6th man/1st big off the bench/energy guy again, seeing as he is versatile enough to guard both big positions, but still has trouble with the bigger centers. Len is 7'1, over 250 lbs, has tacked on tons of muscle in the past year, and has a frame to fill out WITH an elite wingspan... he also compliments TT perfectly in the front court. This was discussed on RCF recently, but as one poster there noted, he isn't one of those Mason Plumlee types that gets his points off hustle-that always gets you by in college against slower/smaller opposition, but generally not at the next level. Len has some grown man moves that can and will translate at the next level. Plus, if I had to make a prediction now, I'd say he'll end up having the better career than Jonas V IMO... If we want a sligtly undersized 2 guard that moves off screens well and has a sweet stroke, let's resign Ellington.
Irving/Livingston
Waiters/Ellington/Miles
Gee/Lakers Pick/Miles
TT/Varejao/Jones
Len/Zeller/Oden
That's a team with depth, and also a team with a 1st and 2nd unit that compliments eachother perfectly in terms of floor spacing

Len is a defiant talent but not sure if his talent warrants being a top three pick ????

I really love Len too.
Although Im not sure about the fit I would absolutely love to find a way to get Oladipo on this team as well.
Find a way to get Len and Oladipo and we add a ton of talent, help fill a huge position of need at C, and get a lot more flexible in our backcourt.

I think it does, his two way potential is outstanding.
There is no clear cut #1 and this draft's Top 5 can come down to team needs and I think Len is in that mix.

Pretty much this... also, should note that we don't wanna be suckered in to taking a player too high just because he carries a stigma of being a top pick... look how that worked out for Minny with Derrick Williams, they could have paired Kanter/Love together with Rubio... all because there was a vibe goin around the league about Derrick Williams being worthy of #1 overall

Agreed... Oladipo could be a great 3rd guard for us, and could allow Kyrie/Dion to defend the Jimmy Butlers of the league instead of the Derrick Roses. Plus, when one of Kyrie/Dion sits, the other could run the point (regardless of who gets in foul trouble first) while Oladipo runs the off-guard spot- and that works well with both Kyrie or Dion... I am startin to really see the potential of having such a dynamic back court, it's gonna be fun to watch this team develop regardless of who we take. But in either case, having Z mentor Len would be just about the best thing possible for us at the 5 spot, a Z-esque center is exactly what we need next to TT.

Re: Our pick in the 2013 draft - early prediction
My top 5 are at the top of the page, but after that Indiana game I think I might have to get on the Len bandwagon over Zeller. Athletic size just absolutely destroyed Cody Zeller.
As for Len he looks great on paper and if you watch his highlights you'd think he's the likely #1 pick in the draft. The problem is, what's going on the rest of of the time? I don't understand how that guy isn't getting 15-10 every single night.
He is very young has a great frame and loads of potential, but he's a project. Much more physicaly than TZ so I'd be fine with taking him though.

This is probably the last lotto pick of your rebuild. There's no margin for error. The good news is that the last 3 big picks look pretty good (Irving, Thompson & Waiters). I don't think you need a star, just so long as you get a big impact player in free agency.

I think Cleveland is going to pick Porter or Zeller, unless you win the lotto, Noel isnt going to be available, and the rest of the guys are bad fits, Bennett, McLemore, Muhammad, Smart, Burke, Oladipo... or have more flaws like Len.
If Cleveland finish in the top5, I'd probably try to trade down, I don't think Zeller/Porter deserve a top3/5 pick.

I dont see any way the Cavs pick Zeller. Len is being critically underrated by all of these draft websites, and if he's there when the Cavs pick I think they pull the trigger.

I agree this year maybe the year to trade down. But what do you ask for? Another further number 1; another better than role player? It really depends on whom its from and what it is? Hope Sac trades me Cousins and they can have the 3rd pick this year
If no one gives up value to trade down, it will be interesting if we are picking 3rd. Maybe just go with Porter at SF no other reason than we really suck at Defense and he can defend and score from the little I saw. Then with the approximate 16th pick I'm hoping Plumlee slides: if not Cauley-Stein.
The flip side is get your big first at 3 and go this Len then get Robinson the 3rd or McDermott.

Can he be a plus defender at the 3? We need our SF to be able to matchup with the opposing team's best wing.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

fart wrote:Why does nobody have us taking Shabazz?
Because:
- Not a great defender, doesn't have a great motor and doesn't have the athletic potential to be one (unlike say Oladipo)
- Demands the ball, throws up shots and sulks when he doesn't "get his" (see UCLA/WAS game)
- Horrific fit with two ball dominant players with his 1-2 ASSIST/TO ratio (yes, that's negative)
- Limited upside; has been trained up since a young age by his controlling father - see Todd Marinovich. Compared to Otto Porter who didn't even play AAU ball, he is far less likely to improve in the league.
- Character questions - showed up at UCLA overweight; the age thing etc.
Now it's not like he doesn't have strengths - he can score in isolation (going left), rebounds well (which translates to the NBA), can get to the line, and has a scorer's mentality. So if a team needs scoring, he's a fine choice. But we have Kyrie and Dion who do that (and at a higher level with much better handles) so he's a lousy fit with us. Honestly, if it wasn't for his high school highlights, I'm not sure how different he is from a guy like Jordan Hamilton.
For our other wing, we need a plus defender with good length who can pass, rebound, hit spot-up 3s and who doesn't need the ball to be effective. That's Porter, and other than the length it's Oladipo. It isn't Muhammad.
