I remember the draft we could have had Amar'e. We were rumored to have interest in just about everyone other than him. Borchardt, Chris Wilcox, Caron Butler, Jared Jefferies, etc. God, I hated Layden.

There were rumors that the Blazers were offering a package that didn't include crap (everyone in that trade but Glen Rice) and a broken down former all-star (Glen Rice). And this was the tip of the ice berg, the beginning of the giant snow ball.

A HS man child named Amare Stoudemire was still on the board when the Knicks picked Maybner Hilario for Denver as part of a package that also sent future DPOY Camby and Mark Jackson's expiring contract for not even one mediocre seasons worth of a ruined Antonio McDyess. The only solace was in knowing that Scott Layden was rumored to be interested in taking Stanford C Curtis Borchardt had they kept the pick.

The Curry deal basically was 1.5 years of a good Curry and Wilson Chandler for Lamarcus Aldridge and Joakim Noah.

Good memory, I think Brian Grant was in one of the rumored offers. I also think Jermaine O'Neill was discussed. Nobody knew what JO was at the time and the Knicks wanted a more sure thing to help them as a playoff team (Easy to say now that they should have taken JO but you didn't know at the time if he was going to go the way of Anthony Randolph) . Grant was a PF and the Knicks had a glut at the time.

Also, about a month before the Ewing deal went down they almost had a deal with Rice and Vin Baker coming back. One of the teams backed out (not the Knicks) and they started to re-work the package without Baker and instead with guys like Vernon Maxwell, Luc Longley and Travis Knight and 2 1st round picks.

Both picks were used in small trades later that common sense would tell you shouldn't require surrendering a 1st rounder to complete: Erik Strickland for Othella Harrington for example...

It very well could have been... I am not sure though, so many bad trades in our history...

I updated my post after looking through it again. The Ewing and Curry trades also up there in terms of what it started (Ewing deal) and what they missed out on. But to think the KNicks could have actually had a young Amare Stoudemire to go with DPOY type Marcus Camby and whomever they could have possibly gotten for Mark Jackson (if they had traded him separately) and well...boy oh boy. I mean heck, we didn't even get the Pistons decent role playing version of McDyess. At least Curry was good for a year and change.

I am putting the Curry trade in the top 3 for sure, possibly the worst.

I agree with you on McDyess that was the other one that stands out to me as a possible "worst" deal.

LOL...

I think it was, if you do not look at your past you can't make improvements going forward. I think our owner needs to understand his mistakes, where HE screwed up and learn from that and step back from making basketball decisions. We had so many bad GMs but the one constant here is Dolan and his fingerprints are clearly seen all over these trades.

It has never been more clear, and the path to correcting it is pretty easy to see as well.

As a knick fan for over a quarter of a century, this thread is really depressing. I am not sure why we are fans of this f'ed up organization, spending countless hours watching games and discussion the team and its every nuance. Not to mention the hard earned money we spend putting money in this delusional owners and disinterested millionaire players pockets.

They are the ones sleeping comfortably in bed (with gorgeous models) while we fret and lose sleep over a lost game.

Good morning all knick fans. Time to wake up.
