This will only hurt if he decides to shed that stupid hair of his and takes his basketball career seriously. Until then, nah..

Ok, this is what actually scares me, do we dare to tank properly?

At this point we need to follow what other teams do and just sit guys and blatantly tank. We avoided it previously and that's part of why we are were we are.
I don't believe in tanking. I think coaches and players have to much invested to make wrong decisions. It can cost them money. We have plenty of guys from Gms to coaches and to players who have lost their jobs because they haven't played well. Yeah I think GMs may set their team up for failure but you don't know how that will play out as we thought Indi was doing that but are they now. Also I think we have to realize that someone has to finish at the bottom. I don't have a problem with Gms trying to compete for that top pick. Higher picks tend to get better than lower picks and I think they are still competing it is just in a different way. Instead it is about the future. I care about our present but I also care about the future of our team. I think we over-rate tanking as a thing players and coaches don't. Instead they realize that their current older players who are starting aren't doing well enough as thought and that giving young players time is worth it. Not all young players get the opportunity for minutes as the coach still wants to win and show that he is worth more by still going with their gut. We can lampoon guys all the time but would any of us fare better? Sure we could but in the same breath we could do worse.

Re: Elf traded to Phoenix for second rounder
I'm speechless.
Yes, Elf was not in the long term plans and it was obvious, but a second rounder?? I refuse to believe this was the best we could get for him. This makes not picking his option even worse as a decision because we could have done something else in the offseason.
And hey, if the FO and Vogel didn't want 3 rookies this year, brace yourselves for the news on draft day that we sold the pick for cash considerations. Elf for nothing, that's their "evaluation year". Just awesome.
I seriously have 0 faith in this FO.

Yeah I don't care about what kind of hair style he has. I don't like it but that's just me. I don't get why it hangs over his face and may somewhat effect his vision at times. But it can be over come so we shall see. But yeah I agree in that this trade may not come back to hurt us. Only time will tell but this one may not have much of a direct impact but maybe just the start of some other moves in the future to get better. Which is what we all want. So we shall see how Payton fares and what we get out of this as we don't know quite what we will get with that pick. We also could get the benefit of not having to pay Payton this summer. It will be interesting to see what kind of money Payton gets. I think it will be somewhat higher but maybe not too much but I don't know know for sure what he will get or who he will get it from so we shall see.

they didn't want 3 rookies on a team where they would get 0 playing time because FO is having to make decisions on who to keep. We could very well have 2-3 rookies next year because we'll have hit the reset button and try to patch together a team.

well to be fair the Market set EP's value.. FO tried to get Ntilikina and then went after McDermott and both deals fell through.
A scoring guard.. never heard of one.

They signed Mack and Mo. We had a first rounder In the early 20s that could have easily replaced one of those signings. It had nothing to do with with 0 playing time, it was due to going after the playoffs and "the draft flattening out". It was stupid back then and it's even more stupid in hindsight.
And yes, they tried other deals and one fell at the last minute (according to Anez) so they made this move as a "reserve one". This is my opinion, completely subjective and I admit it, but to me this speaks volumes about their negotiation ability.

Would you rather have 2nd rounder or McBuckets from NY?

Hows a rookie supposed to come in get solid minutes with this roster when healthy? Iwundu AVG 6 and 4 minutes in October/November and then December when the injury bug hit he moved to 15. No way you could say AG, Fournier, Vuc EP and TRoss all would be injured.. Heck Mario was heading for 20-30 DNP's until people started getting injured.
Mo was signed as a 10th man bench player kinda like how the Cavs just signed Perkins... Mack was signed as a combo guard and wasn't a terrible signing.
I will agree that trading that 2nd 1st round pick was stupid but we did grab Iwundu who has shown some stuff and for a 2nd round pick he's not that bad. Would I have liked to have Iwundu and Kuzma/Hart/Bell heck yes, but they would've received few minutes on this team had we stayed healthy.

It was the right move and at least we got something. Hammond has no intention to resign a PG that can't shoot and can't play defense.

Wait a minute...
Elf is far from great but he is good and on some nights he is great. He is a definite upgrade for PHX and may do well next to Booker. He was admittedly not in ORL's future plans.
Who else among the Lotto teams shares The Magic's desire to draft a PG? PHX just got better and will win more this year. Orlando just lobbed a grenade into PHX's tank.

Agreed, at least it seems that Phoenix is going to get better and then we can have a better chance in the draft odds.
Next draft we can maybe swing a deal by sending our 2 2nd picks (both top 10) for a late 1st, or include them in a deal along with Fournier, BB or Vuc.

We scored 9 points in the first quarter last night, NINE!
Our issue is we dont have players that can shoot the ball (Besides Booker), and i dont think adding Payton to the starting 5 is going to change that. We also have the hardest remaining schedule in the league. The Trae Tank will continue chugging along in Phoenix!

LOL I love this plan. Seriously though, are we really that team that will again give a rookie the keys? Let him shoot 20 3's a game with veteran players around him?
I'm, actually thinking that if we draft in the top4, we get Doncic/Porter/Bagley/Ayton then come out with a trade that will get us a vet PG in the mold of Rubio/Hill/Kemba etc ( not them literally but in their tier)

many of us were. Some of his fans and supporters refused to believe it affected him, even with video proof of it blocking his eyesight when taking a shot.
