Edit: Just finished listening, nice interview. He seems to know Kawhi more personally and that he's a lot different than what his uncle/agent tell everyone. His currency that he deals with is championships and if he thinks he has the best chance for championships going forward with Toronto, he'll choose Toronto. He predicts there is a greater than 50% chance that he eventually re-ups with Toronto.
Thank you for summing it up for everyone. Didn't have the time when I added it.

greed in regards to what? you wanted leonard so keep him for the yr and take your chances...la isnt going to come save you and give you any of the youth just like they wouldn't with the spurs

the fact that your here means theres some level of thirst for Kawhi no? the thirst manifests itself in way that are sometimes negative to toronto its human nature. so if kawhi commits to toronto to us its a big **** you to everyone else. begone.

thats fine...i cant speak for the clipps but they were willing to offer both 12/13th for leonard....i dont think they'll offer up sga now and will probably try to unload gallo deal on tor.

by right between the eyes
I just have a feeling that Kawhi won’t want to deal with all the drama that comes with Lebron and LA in general .. if he’s a low key guy, the Canadian market might be ideal for him.

How about the report that the Spurs had little interest in offers that included youth/picks and wanted an established star player back for Kawhi?(makes sense since Pop will likely be retiring soon)
If that's true, then maybe the reason why Kawhi ended up in TO is because the Raps were the only ones willing to give up an established "star". And it's possible that both LA teams and the Sixers were all offering up valuable packages with youth/picks.

If his main priority is championships, how does trading Norm help sell that? Dumping salary to avoid the tax is a terrible first move after acquiring Kawhi and sends all the wrong messages.

I think this approach was before we got Kawhi. I fully believe, and I think it was reported in the past, that MLSE is willing to spend money if there is real chance to be a contender. And with Kawhi, there is no doubt we are contenders.

thats not what we're talking bout here, joker is referring to IF tor had to trade Leonard again. and no phi/lal weren't putting up any of their note worthy youth on the table, Phi didn't even want to include fultz and I highly doubt they will either if Tor ends up trying to trade leonard if it seems like its not going to work out. I have posted here and have been a proponent of Tor trading for Leonard, whether he stays or not isn't something I would come back and troll Tor board like those 2 posters plan on doing to laker forums, as if Lakers have any control over the media bias.

Maybe if Tim Lieweke really let himself go and stopped taking vitamins.

Turning down the supermax is proof he doesnt care about money, of course the Spurs were a perennial 60+win team since he entered his prime so im not sure its just winning he values over money

That we are only his second team ever and that his run with the Spurs ended badly I think helps us. There can be almost a 7 year itch aspect to these rookie deals that are extended where players are curious what life is like beyond what they’ve known so long. We have the chance to turn the entire year into a recruitment pitch where we can pitch winning, culture, fit, while letting him get comfortable and adjusted and used to the idea of possibly living here. Ideally comig fresh off the high of a Finals run that he is widely seen as responsible for. Ideally, our Canadian advertisers and their ties with the Raptors, really make clear just how much opportunity there is there for him as well.
Assuming all of our stuff goes well it’s basically going to be all of that versus the weather and the Canada vs US image impressions we always have faced.

I feel like some dissatisfaction with the Spurs direction in terms of being a true contender could have played a large role in what ultimately ended up happening. The Spurs have had an awesome run, but since their battles with the Heat and the championship there have been a bunch of missteps and you could easily argue they have gotten further away from contender status rather than closer. Considering there is a lot of noise about Kawhi contacting other star players in order to team up it lends more credence to that scenario.

dukes_wild wrote:Again this just seems like the perfect fit for a guy like Kawhi. Toronto is a world class city much like LA, New York, etc, but less scrutiny and more ability to live a low-key lifestyle. The only downside is weather, but for guys like him with access to personal drivers, and whatever else you can name, the he doesn't have to worry about it that much. In the off-season he can live in LA if he wants.
He chooses to live in San Diego during the offseason.
