This is a fair trade in my opinion. I would send the Miami 2019 first round pick to the Kings, if the Kings send us back their 2020 2nd pick. I'm not excited about he 2019 draft and would like to accumulate picks for 2020. Plus I feel like we got an additional first rounder when Bates-Diop fell to us, and have enough young players in the fold. Whiteside hopefully buys us some time for Patton to heal, and we're from under Dieng's contract and save on Butler's new contract. I feel like we can make some noise with Town, Wiggins and Richardson leading the way.

lol, no way SacTown takes on $26mil in salaries for the next 3 years for just 1 FRP, and have to give up a 2nd rounder in this lmao

I promise you they have no plans for the cap space in the near future. This is almost doing them a favor by making sure they reach the salary floor while they develop the their young core.
Lol taking on $26 mil in bum contracts while only getting one FRP is not a favor. It's the type of **** that gets u fired as a GM

What cap room? Any space Butler expiring opens will be soaked by KAT extension.

See if NYC is willing to put Knox up and a pick. Or something like that from another team. If Miami looks as if they have any leverage they would be proven wrong

At this point, I don't even want him here.
Talks been wide open for 8 days. Miami is the only team biting.

If Richardson isn't on the table I don't know how Miami can top ANY team in the LEAGUE. I wouldn't call that bite.

Absolutely wouldn't bite. The bidding is not on Jimmy, it's on his Bird Rights. That's what will give a team the edge in signing him in the offseason. Even if that team is us in a sign and trade.

I don’t think Whiteside has positive value. In fact, I wouldn’t even trade Dieng for him.

The truth is, MIN didn’t just extend KAT to a max deal, only to then tell him that they were moving him out of his favorite position. Remember his empassioned defense of the center spot when the NBA All Star game talked about removing it, and having fans vote on three bigs? KAT was #2 in the entire nba last season in offensive rating and win shares, as an unguardable stretch 5, and the concept has always been to keep him there, and for him to develop the defense.

Whiteside, on the other hand, can only play center, and he has one skill - blocking shots. He can’t defend players on the perimeter, and he’s not quick. Worse, he actively whines when he isn’t getting what he believes is his fair share of playing time. He would be paid $25.4 mil this year, and $27.1 mil next year, to be a whining back up center.

Keep this guy off the team.

Something I don't understand: Why does Butler('s camp) keep feeding this "He wants to sign an extension right now" thing to the media? Isn't he losing money that way?

Let's be real. Trading both Waiters and Whiteside is a MASSIVE salary dump for the Heat. They get rid of an overrated headcase and also of a guy who's never actually been good and has one season which could qualify as solid to good NBA rotation player. To offer that kind of package for a Top 15 player is straight up insulting. They want to dump their unwanted contracts and also want to get paid for it. Ridiculous.

Throughout trade talks, Minnesota Timberwolves president and coach Tom Thibodeau has continued to try to recruit Butler to ease off his trade demand and return to practice with the team, league sources said.

I interpreted that as getting cap room back in a trade for dumping contracts.

Theoretically if we dump both Teague and Dieng, we could have cap space next year. We would only have KAT, Wiggins, Okogie and Bates-Diop for a total of about $60 mil for a projected cap of $109 mil. Then it just depends on what kind of salary we take back, plus cap holds for Tyus and a first round pick.

Not that anyone is going to want to sign with us next summer.

Also, I don't want to gum up the works for a Butler trade by trying to shoe-horn Teague in there. I think we can trade him during the season to a team that loses their PG to injury pretty easily.

It sounds like some people don't think Jimmy would be worth a max contract. That is ridiculous. Any top30 player in the league is worth a max contract.

I'm not sure what that could be. Maybe you have a virus or something? Have you scanned your laptop lately? If you think its the site try contacting Howard Mass memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=8

Seems like teams are sleeping on his value. Maybe the best thing Jimmy can do to help is cause is suit up and remind these teams that he's a high level baller. I would seriously not hesitate to give up the majority of young players in the NBA if I knew I was getting Butler.

I mean if they are only offering Waiters and Whiteside for Butler and Dieng then I can absolutely see why they want more. I personally wanton of Olynyk or Bam, then Richardson and a FRP protected. If that is too much for an all star's bird rights when they have no cap space then they can watch him sign somewhere else next summer. I would rather have cap space and let Butler rest for the season than take on Waiters and Whiteside especially after seeing how out of shape Waiters looks.

Butler has reportedly said he won't play until he's traded. If he does that he is totally playing into the wolves hands because they can continue waiting on trading him without having to pay him. If he reports the wolves are just going to send him home to keep KAT happy and they would have to pay Butler as well.

Also, when using Taylor's name, please make sure to mention he also owns the Star Tribune.

Thank you.

Another question, why is Butler still in town? I doubt Thibs can talk Jimmy into coming back to anything.

Does anyone know what the CBA says about this? I'm sure it will change at the next lockout.... I mean negotiations.

He can't and won't refuse to play because he wouldn't be fulfilling the terms of his contract and wouldn't become a free agent.

It's the Wolves last practice in MN today. I don't know if they are heading out to LA tonight or tomorrow morning for their game against the Warriors on Saturday. Jimmy should just return to stop all the drama; I mean, what's the worst that can happen - not talk to Towns? Jimmy will eventually play if not traded, believe me. He's too competitive just to play at an Athletic club all year round.
