Exactly! A bunch of unhelpful things pointed out that have no context or bearing on the main story at hand.

Fun fact: Women do grow facial hair. Some more naturally than others. I’m willing to bet you had a great, great, great, aunt/grandmother who had a lovely beard.

no i did not. and if you did that was your uncle and grandfather
pretty sure this lady takes hormones to make her facial hair grow at that alarming rate lol

 you may be right, but that would depend on an entirely different set of life choices

Nirvana fallacy. "Miscarriages of justice happen, so law is useless"

If I were to accuse you of this murder, I'm sure you wouldn't be saying "I hate the innocent until proven guilty thing". How do you establish whether someone has done it or not if you don't have due process? By gut feeling? Surely this is a case of talking (in this case writing) without thinking it through.

That’s just strange, it has no business being discussed or brought up to Leonard.

His job is to play basketball, how is it fair or in any way ethical to bring up that subject if you’re a beat writer for the team?

This information is really unhelpful to the general public, there was no need for anyone to know the person involved was related to him, how is that in any way relevant? I’m not a fan of punishing the family when someone does something like this unless they’re involved which he clearly isn’t

I haven't seen anyone punish Leonard at all?

They simply mentioned she is Leonard's sister. Stuff like that is just basic reporting.

You’ve missed my point, which is there’s absolutely no reason to mention that she’s his sister, why does the reader need that information?

I didn’t think I had to expand on it but maybe it wasn’t clear so I will. When I mentioned punishing the family it very simply comes down to

1. Having your name publicly associated with such an act

2. The potential for messed up fans to say some stupid things to ‘trash talk’ him in this regard.

Unfortunately we’ve seen it too many times with some fans not respecting the lines of trash talk and by making this connection you’re potentially creating an unnecessary scenario where a fan crosses that line.

I don’t see any benefit whatsoever to providing such information to the public.

They do it for more clicks pageviews and so that we can know more about his background.

Simone Biles brother was arrested for murder just last week, when your a public figure of huge notoriety anything you or your immediate family does is front page news, where have u been the last 25yrs were u born last night?
The fact they dont wont to allow bail because she has a wealthy sibling is also part of the story making her a possible flight risk if he bonded her out.
few months ago the college admissions scandal only became a scandal because the lady off Full House kids were involved , all the children of non celebrities didnt have to endure half the media scrutiny or papparazzi and thus went about their day.

You should try reading, it’s very helpful when you’re making a comment in response to someone.

You question whether I was born yesterday and ask where I’ve been the last 25 years as if I said anything about this being a new development.

If you had even a basic level of reading comprehension you’d realise that my point was that I disagree with it, I made no mention of it being something special to this case so your counter point is pointless.

I challenge you to give me one good reason, just 1 about why the general public needs to know that the person involved in this case is the sister of an NBA player.

*puts on my Lucifer Red suit* Cus it's a democracy and the police operate on our behalf. There will always be a gray area between, on one side, a citizens right to know about matters that happen in the public sphere, which are punished by a law enforcement agency whose salaries come from tax dollars, and who are enforcing the laws that are upheld solely by public confidence, and on the other a criminals right to privacy and the need to maintain public order (hence why suicides aren't often reported publicly, as it could cause an epidemic).

NBA players are valued as public figures and their family, factually or not, are perceived to share in that publicity as its assumed that the NBA player will have some sort of material or personal connection with them. In the event that there is no personal connection, it affects our perception of the player as a public figure.

At the same time we don't live in a society where sons inherit the crimes of their parents or brothers share in the crimes committed by their sisters.

It's news because people care.

What does that even mean? How is that in any way related to what I wrote? People care? What the hell is going on in this thread, I couldn't be more clear...there is no reason for us to know that she's Leonard's sister, what good does that do to anyone?

1st amendment & the freedom of the press is one logical reason
If you follow sports you know most teams do thorough background checks & examinations, psychological & medical on the athletes before drafting them to their team, reasons why is to get a idea of who a player is, how their psyche works and if their prone to anger, violence or other psychological issues.
Most leagues are especially conscientious of things such as this, they usually go a step further and talk to teachers, coaches and whoever else knows that player really well when they are a potential draft pick and sometimes free agent. If his sister can snap and kill a helpless sweet old lady over $800.00 two months after her brother wins a world championship and signs a $100million dollar contract something isnt right about that and whats to say he and this sister were especially close. RIP to the victim she didnt deserve that.

You didn't answer my question in any way, shape or form.

Again, give me 1 good reason why the general public needs to know that the person involved in this case is the sister of an NBA player?

If working at a prison taught me one thing, it's that you should save your hatred and outrage. There's about a 98% chance that those women went through a world of hurt leading up to them doing something like that. Another person at the end of a long line of violence keeping the cycle going. Not an excuse (obviously) and they'll get hit hard in the courts, but not many people do something awful and unconscionable like that without some serious backstories getting them there, my guess is the more you knew about their lives the more you'd just feel sad (and grateful about your own life).

People that do these things deserve no sympathy. There are a hundred chances to make the choice in the lead up to a confrontation or something illegal like a robbery to not inflict violence on an innocent person and they chose not to take any one of them.

This is just proof of what you're actually doing in here, I should have known better than to reply in the first place. It's sad that you would even pretend to have sympathy for the victim and then joke around about him being cold blooded, or his killer instinct...all this because you're threatened that the Clippers might be better than the Lakers, it's truly sad

Off I go to the SpursTalk, I bet the think-tank over there has a lot of great takes on this one.

edit: oh yes, from the very first post: "Seriously, everyone at AT&T Center needs to chant Kimesha Monae every time Autist touches the ball when that **** comes to town"

and me being threatened by the clippers would be the equivalent of you being threatened by a mesothelioma commercial at night.

So we got posters advocating for the death penalty in this case and others claiming they hate the "innocent until proven guilty" principle.

Yes, let us get to the Salem Witch trials, guilty until proven innocent. Let the witch hunts begin...
If you're asking me who the Mavs best player is, I'd say Luka. A guy like Delon Wright probably rivals his impact though at this stage in his career. KP may as well if he gets his **** together.

Innocent until proven guilty is a corner stone of any civilized justice system. Innocent until proven guilty is so vital that it should not even be needed to mention but there are far too many overly emotional and sensitive people looking for easy to blame targets whenever something happens.

The person who brought up the innocent until proven guilty thing is Australian so good job, good effort. He also isn't wrong if he was talking about perceptions outside of court which I think he obviously was. I didn't need OJ Simpson to be found guilty of murder for me to think he murdered his ex-wife.

"Innocent until proven guilty" is an excellent principle in law, but it doesn't need to apply outside the courtroom.

how about a case by case basis, like if the guy was caught on video doing it but his trial hasnt started that shouldnt an innocent until proven guilty situation
