Yeah, I just read that, and that Colangelo wanted Drummond (although that sounds like after-the-fact propaganda).

When he slipped, I wanted Drummond simply because he was more obviously tradeable than any other alternative (Lamb, Rivers - never ever heard of T-Ross). If we had picked Drummond, we might have been able to to trade him to OKC for Harden. I heard that JV could have gotten it done, but the consensus at the time was that Drummond was better. OKC was obviously looking for a dreadnought C, and ended up drafting the big Kiwi (with our draft pick) the following year.

That was definitely the narrative. I don't know what is worse for BC. Not picking the guy you think or allowing your coach to pick? There is no way Masai is letting NN make a pick of that magnitude.

I am not sure Flynn is Ujiri pick.
Ujiri picks: Giannis (wish for), Brunno, Siakam, OG, Powell, Daniels (not panned out), Hernandez (not panned out?), Harris
They are all long and quick, and I suppose he trusts our development team.

IBM Watson pick!

McDaniels was the lanky player pick. So they went to Watson and found the player left with the highest BPM on offense and defense and likely pure PG attributes.

Flynn fits the mold of a lot of our later picks. Senior, more mature, high iq.
Also think it was insurance in case Fred walked.

Same. But alas, we got Ben Uzoh'd. But even losing out on that coin toss, I still think we should've went with Drummond. Ah wells, everything worked out in the end and now we have championship.

Our front office were the only people on earth that would have passed on Drummond for TRoss. I think they would have taken Dame and were expecting him to be available earlier in the process.

I thought Ross was Casey's pick.
I remember Stefanski raving about Ross. Man our management sucked so bad then

Let's just agree never to mention McDaniels again.

Apropos of nothing, I see Jokic is odd-on favourite for MVP this season. In other news, Raptors seem content with Birch and Freddie at C going forward. I personally like both those guys, but ... :(

No, not really. There are other seniors as well, as for high IQ, this is a requirement for Nurse offensive and defensive scheme.
And I disagree how he played this year can be claimed as an insurance of VanVleet.

Flynn is more a Nurse pick with preparation of Giannis on the PnR, not really an Ujiri pick to me. Delon Wright was Casey pick, and he was playing for the Pistons earlier this year. You can see Ujiri has been targeting long and quick players instead of skill base.

McDaniels from last year was drafted just before Flynn, so that was outside of our control. I think our first choice was Nnaji.

As for Birch and Gillespie, I think Birch is undersize to be the starting C, while Gillespie isn't ready for a starting role neither. I think we will prioritize a starting C first, and also look for to fill the scoring at SG, so both of them would be after math.

It's more about how he would have played had FVV left. But whatever, agree to disagree. My greater point is that we have one of the best scouting dept's in the NBA. Our leadership team is not going to allow the coach to select our lottery pick.

Oops, I was confused. I thought we were talking about lanky SF DeAndre Daniels in 2014 as a pick. Ahead of ... yadda yadda.

I like Gillespie. Good motor and athleticism. Seems to have pretty good instincts. His wingspan is ridiculous.

I guess we got Jonas back then, and not until this year, we never really need a C.

I’m so glad they went development big over retread.
Gillespie is already outplaying some of the guys that we were targeting.
The Birch pickup was good due to his signability for next season.
I’d like for both to come back next season.

Me too.

Anybody else see Chris Bosh resemblance? Not exact, but hints.

Only in the way he jogs the floor. He reminds me in look of Brian Grant. His interview was quite hilarious talking about his Mom. He seems to be a pretty funny and together person. Need to keep him for the remainder of the seasom.

Baynes earned his money coming to OG's rescue after his Serge special. Serge must have had to text OG with his fatherly approval of the gangster take down.
