Many voters incorporate team success as part of their evaluation. People who think in egoistic terms can't comprehend this notion.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

I have a rule of thumb in moments like these. Before I get upset at an opinion a public figure holds whose sole job is to share opinions I ask myself: is this person rich for being right, or for being controversial?

Perkins is a $1.5 million a year bargain for ESPN and the click bait he offers.

Kendrick Perkins controversial comments on Jokic.

I never thought so. The first year he won, Curry carried g leaguers all season but the reasoning was Golden States seeding was too low. The second time he won it, last year, the roles were reversed, with Golden state and Curry dominating the regular season and Jokic carrying bums. Jokic won it unanimously. Curry should have gotten another MVP at least one of those 2 years.

Joker carried his bums to 9 more wins than Curry with only one more loss, despite playing 10 more games.

Curry carried his bums to an embarrassing play-in loss.

Anyone can say stupid things like that for far much less money . Stat padding thing didn't start from him but from Tim MacMahon , he mentioned it before Perkins, even though I find him one of the better people on ESPN, he was just wrong. But the race thing was in the air for the long time, even the last season but it didn't go out this blatantly.

Also on top of that it's a debate show. There has to be a debate, even if a clear correct answer to the question already exists, there still has to be a guy arguing for the other side.

Idk, this has been talked about since Nash and Dirk have won those actual MVPs. And for months on end as perhaps the primary off season convo after Nash's 2nd MVP.

Most players will say Dirk never deserved that MVP and that was Kobe's and it was stolen.

Shaq constantly brings up how Nash never deserved his second MVP or his first. But especially his second and it was just being a media favorite.

Those are two of the more controversial MVP winners in a long time and race has always been apart of their conversation.

Someone in ESPN just found a stat to tie them to Jokic which is interesting and always valid to bring up for clicks given that we live in America and we have our own history with race.

Perkins is out there happy to be the microphone for it which any player would be because almost all players who have spoken about it feel Nash and Dirk didn't deserve at least 2/3 MVPs that they won. If not all 3. And only won them because the sports writers are racists and changed the rules to fit the narrative they wanted for the guy that looked like them to win.

But this isn't a new news story for only Nash or Dirk MVPs. For Jokic it's hard to argue against other than saying Giannis should have won one of them really. Jokic's MVPs are pretty non controversial so it's interesting to tie them to the likes of the Dirk and Nash MVPs.

Or you could again say the goal posts were moved and a winning team wasn't a requirement just happened to occur when it was someone that the media looked like was being voted for.

I think it is valid enough to note that the goal post do constantly seem to shift on what is an MVP when there's someone the media is voting on that they share visual similarities with.

And you can argue yet again, this year the goal post will be moved for a 3rd straight MVP without winning a ring that was an unwritten rule will happen to be moved when as Dray says someone "European" is up to win that type of accolade.

Perhaps they keep it moved after they vote that guy MVP that given year but it seems like a sure lot of exceptions line up... but only for those "rare" candidates.

Perkins is dumb and this take it dumb. It shows the obsession with the stats driven culture when selecting MVPs. Perkins could have used the example of Westbrook winning an MVP (damn what were we all thinking on that one?) as well. The media’s obsession with advanced stats and playing the game the “right” way is going to age terribly if Jokic doesn’t even make the finals this year. And I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve it this year but the media has set the bad in previous years to where they’ve created a self fulfilling prophecy that they have to give it to him.

Imagine if there was a white player/analyst/whatever saying this about a black player... well, racism exists in many forms, not only white towards blacks, I guess.

Perk being Perk, nothing new to see here.

Jokic catches so many strays for doing nothing but being an unbelievable generational talent. Now it's because he's white? I don't watch ESPN segments anymore, and this is a good reason why. Too many narratives and double standards.

Anyone can make arguments based on the numbers, position in the league, record, or whether said player IS the most valuable to their specific team overall.

When people start devaluing someone’s accomplishments, and start saying it’s only earned because of their skin color, then that’s just straight up racism.

It’s funny how this conversation only seems to come up when Dirk and Nash are winning MVPs and now Jokic is deserving of it. Radio silence when it’s anyone else for the last 13 years. God forbid a guy with generational talent putting up ridiculous numbers wins it despite being white and from Europe.

I could care less about the award itself. Just pointing out the hypocrisy.

I don't know why people whip themselves up into a frenzy and get defensive about this crap. Debating the merits of the argument only serves to legitimize it.

As Chappelle said about Herschel Walker, Kendrick Perkins is observably stupid. Good on him for getting a paycheck from espn, but I don't know why anyone would bother to listen to him.

Perk is not exactly the brightest star in the moon.

Put a whole new spin on the MVP “Race”. This is what happens when you consistently shove a microphone in some rather unintelligent persons face, you’ll get some truly dumb things come out of their mouths. Not only did it come out, but he fully doubled down. :banghead:

Must be said, if this was a white dude that said anything even remotely close to this, he’d likely have been cancelled/disgraced/fired, or at the minimum suspended from the network. Not that I’d support something like that, everyone should have a right to their opinion, no matter how much one disagrees.

Does Perkins know what the Nuggets record is when Jokic has a triple double? Lol

Does he know where the Nuggets currently sit in the standings?

Seems like Jokic knows a thing or two about how to play basketball the right way.

Pretty much a bold faced lie, nevermind the race-baiting.

Jokic was top 10 in PPG and total points in both the 21 and 22 seasons. Dirk tied for 10th in PPG and was top 5 in total points in 2007.

Funny enough Perk used 1990 as a cut off. Since Magic won MVPs while not top 10 in scoring.

Not saying race has anything to do with it. Real savy basketball fans know he isn't on that level. Steve Nash 2.0

Real fans huh. Your trolling is so easy to spot. Try harder bud. The art of trolling is more subtle. Just trying to help your troll game. You will thank me later

I bet Jokic, Gianni, Luka, Tatum etc. hardly care as much as some of these clowns. Obviously they all would be honored to win, but beyond that they play basketball and go home.

Some of the ways basketball is discussed are way too existential and contextual. Old generations v. new generations, all-time lists etc. Just watch the game and judge what's going on right now and enjoy it.

Jokic said many times he cares less about the rewards. He wants to win. But to bring up his integrity is another matter. It is why he responded the other day about stat padding. Watch Jokic run away with it the rest of season and playoffs,

It was on the Lowe Post. He mentions that an ESPN producer wanted to know his opinion since everyone in studio said the Lakers would beat the Grizz or Nuggets in a 1st round match up. He had a prior engagement but Lowe disagreed and laughed about it.

I think it was Malika, Perkins and Marc Spears (I forget the 4th)
