He balances out Jenkins' personality and tactical side. Jenkins is the calmer presence who throws a bevvy of defensive coverages and schemes at opponents, while Rajakovic instills confidence in the offense by emphasizing playing with swagger.

The Grizzlies (56-26) have gone from a fringe playoff team to championship contender in one season, and Rajakovic's hands are all over the leap.

"I rely on Darko so much," Jenkins said. "He's got a passion for the game, he's got so much energy. It's everything from how he handles player development, from film work, how he attacks opponent's scouting."

Bane was told about Rajakovic's reputation as a player development coach and saw it for himself in summer league. Rajakovic pushed Bane to become stronger with the ball in more of a playmaking role. The growing pains were there, but Memphis reaped the benefits in stretches when Ja Morant or Tyus Jones weren't available, and Bane became the No. 2 point guard. Now Bane's offensive skillset features pull-up 3-pointers, off-the-dribble midrange jumpers, hard cuts and pick-and-roll playmaking.

Williams had more of an in-season improvement. He struggled and looked lost during his first three months as a rookie. He spent time with Rajakovic in film sessions as well as shooting. Williams has turned into one of the Grizzlies' better 3-point shooters and will be one of the X-factors during the postseason.

"Darko just doesn't care who you are, what your role is on the team," Williams said. "He just wants you to be the best you possibly can be. That's what I love him about the most."

Williams has hidden his frustration when he has struggled this season. Sometimes he gets visibly upset on his face or will hit a wall after a disappointing game, but other times he tries to hide it. Rajakovic has worked with Williams so much that he can get the rookie out of those mental slumps.

"He honestly reads them really well," Williams said. "I don't know what it is that Darko reads about me, but he senses it every time."

Theres a couple of Serbians that are draft eligible - Nikola Djurisic and Tristan Vukcevic. Both project to be 2nd rounders though.

I am a huge Vukcevic fan. Hard to find a more skilled 7fter in this draft. I don't know if he would push for any Euro players, but I do think he will want high energy defenders.

This means we are likely going with the rebuilding route. Siakam and/or OG will probably get shipped to the Blazers.

A new Darko era begin.

I am not saying we need to tear down everything but hopefully we can younger and maybe do step backwards to do two forward.

Honestly, I'm happy with the team that took two games against the Sixers last year in the playoffs, even with Scottie limping. Plus Poeltl, OPJ and #13.

Just don't play the starters 40 mpg. Let the kids play and develop.

Grange is a clown. It is rather funny that Woj or Shams will break news on the Raps before our own media.

LarSiN wrote:Excellent hire ! Apparently he worked closely developing Bane, JJJ, Ja, etc, and the players have raved about him. Being the top Assistant on a team that finished 2nd in the West (despite their best player missing 21 games) says a lot too.

I would kind of assume Fred + Siakam are gone, Trent stays and OG is 50/50, but who knows!

Not necessarily.

I think team klutch leverage was "you don't have a draft pick next year, pay up for gtj and fvv "

Now ujiri can go to klutch and say "fine if you want to leave , go ahead, we fine going towards a rebuild", and work towards developing blanton, Flynn and etc

Did you read woj piece, raptors haven't decided. They hired Darko cause he could lead them to a championship or a rebuild.

Someone should photoshop Raptor players into the Donnie Darko symbol.

Some are speculating this means we’re going younger. Since apparently he was vital in the development of a lot of the young Grizzlies players that are great now.

a head coach with a rep for player development is huge for us. Wonder who else he'll hire for his staff

So are we finally going to rebuild now? Is that what this means?
