Bull crap. NBA players association will intervene.

And no relevant Free Agent will sign with the Heat ever again while Riley is there.

There's a reason why players end up exactly where they want in most trade request cases, even if there's tensions between the organization who facilitates the trade and the player.

And that's exactly why. They playing the long game.

riley failed to give him a good team... 4 years ago people were saying teams be acting like slave owners with their "shut up and dribble" approach. why are we telling jimmy to shut up and dribble right now?

this is just player empowerment, is it not? help me out here

So I'm guessing Jimmy Butler is not too keen on playing basketball next year. If he's basically Suns or bust train, he may as well give up on that because nobody is taking on Beal contract without significant draft compensation and Beal has a no trade clause anyway, so he can say no to basically every team and make any trade impossible.

What's the players association going to do if you just sit him? The coach can play whoever they want. You don't have to suspend him, but he can just be a DNP-CD until you find a deal for him. Or, the team could request that he be away from the team until then. Either way, you don't play him. Perhaps another team will eventually offer next to nothing for him (expiring contracts) and Miami could do a deal.

Part that bothers me is, what about Beal's "player empowerment"? Maybe, as has been reported, he doesn't want to move his family again.

Is 'player empowerment' just for Jimi?

Did them a favour, really. Bad culture fit, so no need to waste short term assets here and use them elsewhere.

I'd have felt sorry for Kerr with Green and Butler on the same team oof lol

I don't see Jimmy getting traded. Biggest fail trade demand.

Butler is an idiot, had a golden opportunity, doesn’t really want a ring I guess.

does this guy want a legit shot at a title or just more guaranteed money?

irrelevant player unless he makes another final appearance anyways after losing two - meaning any achievements short of that will feel like a letdown anyways, so he better decide fast

It was always about the money, if Miami gave him what he wanted ($$$) none of this would be an issue. He probably doesn't want the money to go somewhere irrelevant, but a bad team wouldn't pay him anyways.

It's actually kind of hilarious. All the media is going to be talking about it Luka and Wemby now, and all the coverage is going to be in LA and SAS, and NY and BOS once the year starts winding down.

Jimmy just low key lost all leverage this year, as no one is going to care about this story in the media now that LA got Luka  Better luck next year I guess, he will have no leverage if he opts in, he will be an expiring at that point  and MIA will trade him to where ever they want

Double standard? He signed a contract to play for the Heat. Supposedly of his own free will. He's not honoring the contract.
