Lots of bad takes in here after Jimmy played through an injury that should have sidelined him for multiple weeks. No, at 35 he is not the same Jimmy as he was years ago -- but he's still damn good when he's 100%.
Fans always want players to play through injuries but when they do and can't perform at their normal level they get crucified. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

On PER, which is a reasonable a measure as any, he had a higher score in the playoffs than any Timberwolf but Ant, than any Celtic period, than any Pacer period, than any Thunder except SGA, than any Nugget except Jokic, and so forth..
...than any warrior except...no one. Just highest.

No "Playoff Jimmy" was always a made up narrative that people clung to despite facts and reason.
He was straight ass with the Wolves against the Rockets in the playoffs, yet everyone talked **** about KAT being soft and when Butler threw his tantrum and cried "You can't win without me" everyone took his side.
The bubble is the "Mickey Mouse" championship, i.e. not a valid title when talking about the Lakers/Lebron but everyone gargles Jimmy's balls for "carrying a bunch of scrubs" to the finals while babbling on about hEaT cUlTuRe.
What about 2023 then? How many other players have scored 56 points in a playoff game? How many other players have led their team to the finals twice? How many other players have had a playoff game against LeBron where they had more points, rebounds, and assists?
Butler is 32nd all time in playoff win shares, 27th in playoff VORP, 25th in playoff BPM, and 36th in playoff PER. Those are the facts.
Fantastic job proving my point, all the way down to citing the Mickey Mouse appearance in the finals.
In 2023 they went to 7 in the ECF despite being spotted a 3-0 lead with Butler being named MVP after a massive choke job in game 6 and putting up 28 points on 28 shots in game 7. The driving force behind this series was the Celtics early awful, lackadaisical performances and Heat role players like Caleb Martin shooting and playing well above their usual standard. When neither occurs in the Finals the Heat get handled easily in 5 games, with Jimmy spending the first 3 quarters of the deciding 5th game playing like ****.
Naz Reid.

That's the point, Jimmy has been injured now in the post season for the past several years and barely plays the regular season.
This is why Pat Riley did not want to overpay Jimmy for past successes when his output was on a downturn in the present and future.
I think more GMs have to learn to not overpay players, imo.

I wouldn't have over extended myself if I was Jimmy neither. He was making his young guys better while taking the extra coverage without Steph and that's his game. He doesn't take volume jumpers, so he can't take volume shots with that coverage... But I respect the way he plays to empower teammates

Getting undercut like that is not a common occurrence.

I mean, we all know the truth here. Jimmy's a very good player who can help a team advance to an NBA Final, but he can't do so as its best player. That time has come and gone.

He is one of the most overrated players in recent memory.
He's basically Mitch Richmond with a better PR team.

That was not proven. But who cares? Factoring in his impact on both ends. But having a team lose a60 million dollar player in a salary cap sport doesn't prove that... Sorry

I feel like you didn’t answer any of my points.
1. How many other players have scored 56 points in a playoff game?
2. How many other players have had a game against LeBron in the playoffs where they have more points, rebounds, and assists?
3. How many other players have led their team to the finals twice?
4. How many other players are 32nd all time in playoff win shares, 27th in playoff VORP, 25th in playoff BPM, and 36th in playoff PER?
In the 2022 playoffs Butler averaged 27, 7, and 5 on 60.4 TS%, 29.9 PER. Game 7 of the ECF Butler had 35, 9, and 1, 60.7 TS%, but his team lost by 4.
Game 7 of the 2023 ECF wasn’t Butler’s best game, but the Heat won by 19, and Kobe, Jordan, Lebron, ect. Have all had playoff games that are just as bad, if not worse.
