I sure hope PATFO are looking at ways to acquire 6'8" SF Sam Hauser and his career 42% from 3 at only around $10M to $12.5M or so per year starting next season with the new contract. Excellent value. He made just over $2M this season.

Not while Harrison Barnes is on the roster. If Harrison is traded, then a possibility.

I feel the same. If KD really wants to be here, the likelihood of it happening increases significantly. If he's ok going elsewhere, I'd be disappointed but rather not overpay for a player who is meh about playing for us:

Yes to offering the #14 pick. Hell no to rightly not offering the #2 pick.

KD will have to exert some pressure if he wants to play for us:

Let other teams overpay for him.

How many times does it have to be proven when he is added to a somewhat good team that it totally blows up in his face? Usually because of him.

I wouldn't mind giving it a shot here because there isn't many other options available but its too damn expensive for a 36 year old dude who never won anything on his own and isnt a leader.

He totally blew up Brooklyn's chemistry and did the same in Phoenix. He does that here and Wemby is off to another team.
Maybe if Pop was still healthy and coaching he could get him to fall in line but he will walk all over Mitch Johnson and this coaching staff. No thanks.

The one weird thing in Nets was Irving or KD implying they didn't need coaching. Nash was DOA.

Still the Nets situation went belly up due to Irving going full Irving. Injuries and fit. They were a KD too big a shoe size toe on the line from success.

Phoenix sacrificed depth for a collection of stars, and it was the Beal deal that sunk them. I didn't like KD slapping Budz's hand away but he was respectful of Pop during the Olympics.

It brings us to your point about Pop. Recently Haslem was praising Heat culture and Spo experience and frankly us no longer being able to point to GOAT Pop as a force of gravity hurts. No question Mitch has a disadvantage there, but CP3 praised him for holding the locker room together through difficult times. We still have The Spurs Way in place carrying over, we still have Pop who can summon a player and have a chat.

KD is still gives you 27/7/4.4 for his career and Suns were in the positive with him on the floor than off.

I still hope we get him as he is Wemby's favourite player and he wouldn't have to be the top 1 or 2 option, though could still step up to it when necessary.

It's the shortness of his contract as well as his game that intrigue.

Agree about not overpaying.

So there's movement on KD - I'm going to assume positivity that it's to us - and growing whispers of #2 going out for further assets:

Instead of wasting all of our assets and cap space on Durant, why not make a phone call to Memphis and offer the same or a bit more for Jaren Jackson Jr.? Memphis seems to be either retooling or blowing it up.

Now he would fit perfectly with us and he's only 25. Plus he plays defense and blocks shots and rebounds (Durant doesnt do any of this).

He needs his contract redone but I would think it would be for less than Durant's monstrous numbers and we would be getting soo much more of a player as a whole.

For this I might consider the #2.

Durant 6 reb 1.2 blk
JJJ 5.6 reb 1.5 blk

Jackson has been a poor rebounder since ncaa

Yeah two knocks on JJJ who otherwise is a very good talent are rebounds and fouling out.

His career averages are 5.5 rebounds per game, 3.5 fouls per game.

Some of our guards average only almost one fewer rpg. And the fouling would rank him 1st on our team.

He's a good 3s shooter, FTs, 2s but there are aspects to his game that are making Mem balk at giving the contract he's eligible for. Did the Bane trade signal a rebuild shift or did it clear cap space to extend Ja and JJJ? We'll see. Grizz want Booker so maybe the latter two get dangled for him.

Suns want a C but to build around Booker.

Agree that #2 for KD is short sighted in and of itself. Saw Cam and 8 for 2 suggested and still think that's too low. Maybe Lauri and 5 and swaps for 2 is closer to it. But just Cam Johnson and 8 is not. We'd need multiple picks coming back for Brooklyn to get to draft their homegrown talent Harper. This will be the least costly he'll ever be so part with multiple picks now or watch him become an integral core piece elsewhere

I would love to see a Wemby-JJJ duo in SAS!

The defensive result would be insane!

When Wemby is on the bench, JJJ can play 5, and when the two play together, there will always be an elite rim protector near the basket! Sometimes, a good way to stop Wemby from dominating in the paint is to pass the ball to the player he's marking. But even then, you've still got JJJ patrolling near the rim!

Having JJJ as your third or fourth option in attack is perfect.

You can put five players who can shoot three-pointers and potentially have one of the best defensive teams ever!

It's a fine hypothetical and I didn't mean to disparage most of JJJ's game, it's just about value for money with the cap structure as it is now. Anyway, it's a moot point as it looks like Bane was moved so as to allow Mem to afford extending JJJ and Ja.

These are the decisions teams will be facing now - which players to keep or move on from and when. Mem got great pick value back and keeps their books more clear. I guess it's an example of distribution of talent and therefore parity but it's too bad it also means smaller markets who draft well are forced to choose which of their good work in scouting and development they have to move.
