You can tell how slimy the league and Adam have become, when they have yet to address over the past years, the issues their players/coaches are facing with constant harassment over bets.

Adam tried to burry this behind the scenes? If this has any truth, how can anyone trust this man? Again, if this is true, owners should not trust him to handle the Ballmer, Kawhi and Aspiration situation with integrity.

“The NBA, at some point, is going to have to explain why Terry Rozier was allowed to keep playing. And I want to point something out. The sportsbooks caught the irregular betting on Terry Rozier the day it happened, the morning it happened, when all of a sudden there was hundreds of thousands of dollars coming in on Terry Rozier Unders for a relatively meaningless game in March involving the Charlotte Hornets. The sportsbooks caught it,”
“They told the NBA right away, and guess what? The NBA — Rozier didn’t play the rest of the season and he had faked the injury, so it wasn’t because of the injury. The NBA pulled them, they pulled (banned ex-Raptor) Jontay Porter too, they flagged Jontay Porter and pulled Jontay Porter. The NBA’s measure, their protection measures, the sportsbook protecting measures triggered this, they caught it.”

Look what this did to boxing long term. It makes you question all the results.

To me, this is the worst part of the story for the NBA. The FBI was still actively investigating Rozier for manipulating games, and you are allowing him to play?

windhorst asked nba same question, nba response is that nba is not the government they dont have legal recourse to wiretap, subpoena text messages etc. and nba basic investigation cleared him.

All we're going to hear is how mobbed up the league is. Thanks to gambling.

Thanks for posting that. I get that their powers are limited, but they could still place him on leave while the FBI investigation is underway. If he's still collecting his salary, that is all he and the PA would care about anyway. Unless the CBA would prohibit this (you would know, I would not)? Even guys that are accused of violent crimes, I understand at some point the league has to let them play because one should always be presumed innocent until proven guilty. But I mean, this is the one crime for which a guy should be removed immediately. Now there are a bunch of online sleuths poring over 3-5 years' worth of games in which Rozier played, and Billups coached lol.
I'm not on any moral high horse and will be the first to admit none of this is making me turn away. But something has to give, everything is coming to a head:
- Cap circumvention by their richest owner.
- 6 current and former players and one current coach caught up in gambling probes in the last 2 years.
- The accusation against Billups also ties into tanking, which many have been railing about for years now.
And the thing is, in each case someone gave a heads up about it and/or many people predicted it would happen. So none of this came as any surprise to the league. The league needs better investigators.
The revenue and salaries are astronomical now, and Silver was the helm during all of it. So I doubt any owner or player wants him removed. But there must be a reason his good friend Iger won't let him take over Disney.

I'm tired of all of these sports betting ads and shoehorning betting into podcasts and sports shows. The league was strong without the sports betting money. They don't need it. Adam Silver has destroyed the integrity of the game in how he has welcomed the gambling money, amongst other things.

Gambling CAN be as destructive as alcohol or many other addictive substance, yet you don't see those vices getting shoved down your throat in every minute of our lives when we watch a game or listen to a podcast. I know it's a long shot, but politicians should step in here.

There needs to be a limit to NBA's gambling advertisement and association....gambling can be a serious addiction just like alcohol/drugs/sex.
Watch they're going to give Vegas an NBA franchise just because of how powerful the gambling & sports betting empire has become.....that alone is a red flag to how serious this is.

Seriously. I'm beyond tired of all the adds, and sportscasters pushing gambling shoved in everyone's face.
Pro sports has become a conduit for harm. No amount of photo-op 'charity' work can cover for the evil partnership and sickness they promote on society that is heavily viewed by a young audience.
F'n disgusting

Re: Shams: WTF! Chauncey Billups Charged Alleged Illegal Gambling
So some of you guys think Terry Rozier should have never played after the league was alerted by the FBI when there was irregular and suspicious gambling.
Some of you think after the FBI brought charges against Rozier he should still be able to play because he hasn't been convicted yet.
Interesting...
I mean, lets be honest, the biggest losers here are gamblers. Tanking is so indistinguishable from throwing games because it is exactly that. We've been so accustomed to teams just intentionally losing games for ping pong balls, and cheer it as fans, why would we really care if Billups tells someone he's not trying tonight? For the record, if true, Billups should be banned for life. Tanking is also dumb.

I'm not sure what the players want here. How should the league protect them from enraged fans?
