In regards to the original post, dealing for Nene would be worth it. He's young, big and talented. As long as a contract like Thomas' can be pawned off in the deal as well, then do it. It could be expanded to include Francisco Garcia and Linas Klieza. Otherwise, Artest/Thomas/pick for Nene/Najera/pick could work.
Take Udrih for the trade exception. Dallas has a distributor in Beno and a shooter in Terry. Nene has another 4 years and 45 mill on his contract. Guy is constantly hurt. Testicular cancer now. I'd rather let Artest leave and deal with KT for two years unless I felt like some serious gambling than take on Nene at this point.

^But what if he can prove he's 100%? Duncan could not stop Nene in that first game. They had to double him. Denver didn't have great threats from outside in that series. On Sacramento, he'd have Martin, Miller and whoever else is on the floor.
Y'all know what's better for your team than I do. You guys follow the Kings and watch all of their games. From what I've seen this season, a healthy Nene is worth the gamble. Since he's not healthy, don't deal for him. But he's young and big guys always have taken a long time to develop. He's only what, 25?

If the guy can stay healthy I would take him in a Second. I actually have watched him play here and there and I like his game. I think he would really add something this team is missing and that is a Power Forward. If we were able to do a KT/Artest for Nene/Najera/pick I would do it in a second.magee wrote:^But what if he can prove he's 100%? Duncan could not stop Nene in that first game. And still don't, shooting 33 percent as a team.
Kleiza and JR Smith (who isn't exactly a pure shooter or somebody who's going to be a top shooter in general, streaky, and has to improve his shot selection) are still unproven in the playoffs. Now, they could learn from the experience in 2007, but also could not and still have to adjust for the future.
It's amazing to me how Denver hasn't addressed their long-range shooting issues since 03-04 (Lenard/J. Barry). Even then, not too good.
The Playoffs don't care about your Analytics

Good find, that article leads me to believe that the Nuggets aren't willing to put the proper pieces together in order to land Artest. That being:
Artest/Thomas
for
Nene/Najera/Kleiza

Obviously they arent going to do that. Pay 35 million for a 1/2 year rental of Artest AND give up useful expirings and a great young prospect with another year left on his rookie contract.
The hang up is the Nuggets are willing to do Najera/JR Smith and a 1st. The kings want Kleiza, but the nuggets wont let him go for a few months of Artest.

Once again though. IF the Kings really were interested in Nene, a straight across deal makes the most sense. Dumping Kenny really serves no purpose because this deal kills much of any cap space hope for '09 by trading for Nene anyway.

If nothing else it will give us the money to at least re-sign our own guys. Depending on the plan '09 might be irrelevant as of now.

I believe there is also a concern over the salary tax for the next two seasons after this one, which would probably be relevant in that case (although I don't have the figures right in front of me and am feeling too lazy to look them up).

There really is no use for the Kings to even trade Ron then. The pick ain't all that great and Artest will net us more expiring money just letting him walk than that deal anyway.
At this point, Artest is going to get traded no matter what. There is very little question about that. The longer he is on the team, the more liable he becomes to say something stupid or act out. his value isnt going up.
In a trade, SAC isnt willing to take on more salary. SO that means player on rookie contract, expirings, and picks. Not that many teams are willing to give up that combination for a guy that will become and UFA....the fact is Denver is the only team in serious talks for Artest.

Re: Artest to Denver?
The Kings aren't doing Kleiza/Najera for Artest, that's not even a reasonable proposal. Nene is still a health risk with a multi-year deal. Artest makes the Nuggets better than Nene and from the Kings POV if they're taking on the additional salary of such a health risk like Nene(who's a lesser player than Artest) then you gotta take Kenny's deal back. That's the price that would have to be paid. Or else we'd just ship Artest eastward because the team we ship him to is likely the destination Artest ends up at.yunggunz wrote:-= original quote snipped =-

What team eastward? I think Artest would be huge to a contender but I dont see teams lining up to get him and even less if KT is attached. I think Petrie blew it by not moving him for some youth early in the year with KT unattached.
