Nice way to discourage LA attacks....

Thanks, but if you reed a few posts up you wouldve seen that I did add the Cs/Bulls/Spurs/Pistons etc on my post.
I generalized the Lakers cause I am a Laker fan and I have seen how much hate and inults we face daily on every board.
Like I said any successful franchise in sports history has its fair share of hate, no matter who it is.
The Yankees , Dallas Cowboys, The Lakers/Bulls etc.
Its very obvious for example when a Sun fans and Im not singling them out in general, but let say a Suns fan comes on here and posts " The Lakers are nothing special" or "Or the only way the SPurs win is by cheating"....... Go figure.
So again it doesnt bother me, what bothers me is when a Rocket fan takes a thread that was started by a NON LAKER fan and labels Laker fans as being arrogant or why people hate Laker fans.
That prove two things, either he cant read and he cant tell whos a fan of what team or he just cant read.
Now I can expect that from a newbie but not a poster who has well over 6k plus posts, so I automatically assume its another Laker bashing remark.

The real question is, do the Lakers have to play a godly performance to beat an NBA team?

If things are too good to be true, it usually isn't true. I love how everyone is stroking the Lakers now.......a great set up for a huge failure.

I hate the Lakers but their defense looks like they are playing with 6 players. Even Vlad is playing defense. We all know their offense is good but their defense is playing possessed. Of course, it is too early to tell because they played 1) an overrated team 2) a team without one of its top 3 players. But even still major props to the Lakers because at first glance their defense looks like it will be one of the best in the NBA.

OK, so here it is. The Lakers have won 2 games to start the season. They did win against two teams that didn't make the playoffs last year, however, both of those teams should be better this year than they were last year. To cap it off the Lakers didn't just win, they demolished both teams.

The truly crazy thing to think about is that the Lakers didn't even play flawless in either game.

In game 1, Bynum played like crap, and Kobe had 5 turnovers.
In game 2, Pau played like crap, Odom didn't do anything, and Kobe again had 5 turnovers.

Despite this the Lakers won by 20 and 38. Their bench looks downright scary right now. Farmar looks like he has improved again in the offseason, and it is my prediction that he will be starting over Fisher by the end of the season. Ariza is ridiculously athletic, combined with Bynum's return and Pau's upgrade at defense over Turiaf at the PF, the Laker defense could be top 5 in the NBA this season.

If you add all this to the fact that the Lakers were pretty close to winning it all last year...this is going to be a very hard team to beat.

The Lakers starting lineup of...

PG - Fisher
SG - Kobe
SF - Radmonovic
PF - Pau
C - Bynum

Is arguably the best in the NBA

The Lakers bench...

PG - Farmar
SG - Sasha
SF - Ariza
PF - Odom
C - Mihim

Outside of Mihm that is a great bench (and Mihm actually looks healthy this year)

Hey the Lakers look good. Their D has been amazing and they're deep as hell. However, it's 2 games in and they havn't really played anyone yet. As a Laker fan, I can't wait to see them really get tested.
Im pretty freakin awesome........

from reading this thread, the portland blazers went from consensus surprise team to a bunch of nobodies in a blink of an eye

That is something to think about.

How many teams will become overrated or become nobody's after playing the Lakers.......

Well, I don't like it when the Lakers are overrated because I always want to be the underdog. However, I truly believe that this team can win as many games as the Celtics did last season barring any injuries.

We're trying to fix out defense and we just plugged a 7 footer in the middle which solves our rebounding problems. Our offense won't be as good but we don't really care about our offense because we have so many weapons and if we're struggling offensively, Kobe will just average 30ppg again and carry us until we're ok.

I still don't know how we'll matchup with Boston though. This time, Gasol can guard KG and will probably do a better job than Odom and Perkins can no longer push our big men around. I don't care how much Radmanovich improved his defense, he won't be able to last a quarter against Pierce. This is where our mini zone defense can help a bit.

I think when people called them a "surprise team" they meant a 7th or 8th seed at best. Which they are. I don't consider that a real challenge for the defending conference champions. Yet anyway. By "not having played anyone yet" I meant they havn't played a top team, like the Celtics, Spurs, Suns, Pistons, etc... I think that's where the real test is. However, if you think the Blazers, who could possibly be a "surprise team" and low seed, are a real test, then ok.

I hate to have to bring reason to this thread but... For as good as the Lakers are they're still a beatable team.

They opened the season playing against two teams that aren't that good right now and whooped them, not a big deal.

That's the best part (and by "best" I mean most absurd) about the first two games: Radmanovic looks like a DPOY out there. And it's not even the team rotations and help, either. Guys just can't get by him or make a move on him. Reminds me of how he and fellow DPOY Walton shut down Carmelo Anthony in last year's playoffs.

Btw, I wouldn't look at it as people going back on their projections for Portland this year just because LA blew them out, but that everyone knew that it would take a couple of months for them to gel (they weren't going to be a force in the first month, much less the first game), plus they expected Oden to be there, which he only was for the first few minutes of the game.

OP: Based on your implication, the lakers are Godly? Lol... I see. 2 games into the season against teams that may or may not make the playoffs... take a deep breath and relax... yeah, that's it.

I did not contradict myself. The guy I quoted doubts the Lakers can play good defense because they have "numerous incompetent defenders". I don't see how that's any different than the Celtics, who also have "numerous incompetent defenders", yet still find a way to play good team defense.

All of a sudden great defense is a trend....started by the Celtics? Before the Celtics, there were the Pistons of 03-04, the Spurs of current decade, Houston Rockets of the last two years, the Knicks and Heat of the 90's, the Bulls teams of the 90's, the Pistons of the 80s, I'm leaving out a ton of others.

The Celtics caught lightning in a bottle last year and thats all well and good. But deciding to play great defense is hardly unique to Boston.

You've had a few very good defensive teams, but this could be the first time in a long time where there has actually been a trend of great defense. The Lakers emulate Boston, other teams start emulating those 2. That would mean Boston started the trend. Of course, Russell's Celtics are considered to have been the team that started great defense in the NBA and especially Russell, so everything goes back to Boston. Few people thank the Celtics for it, but it did happen.

"Thank" the Celtics? You think they were the first team to come up with the idea of playing good defense? Without them no one would have discovered it? Celts> Jonas Salk!

Why stop there man? Come on, lets be real with ourselves, Boston>Anywhere, when are people gonna start thanking us for not just defense in basketball, but for their FREEDOM, Fluff, Twinkies, George Feeney, things of that nature. Just give it up peasants, we own you

So we can expect the Blazers to get blown out by 20 pts by the Spurs, Celtics, Suns, Pistons then since they are a surprise team and just a projected 7th or 8th seed......
