just back from the track - did 3 x 800.

surprised myself with how fast - I was coming in just a hair over 3 flat.
Not bad for an old fart. Coulda done a couple more but maybe not
quite as fast. It was the final night of our club's track program so we
split everyone up and have a 4x400 relay race. Our team came in 2nd.

Ok guys serious crisis on the hand. I've been working out a good amount for the past few months and it's paid off greatly. My bodies in great shape and I feel damn good about myself except this one thing. I wear size medium shirts and before I started working out they fit me moderately and were mostly loose. Now I fit perfectly into them all nice and tight but my freakin nipples (no homo on this entire post) keep poking through my shirt. I have no idea what the hell to do but every shirt I wear my nipples are poking through it like swords. I put on undershirts and it doesn't help either. Do I buy need to buy a whole new wardrobe of size L shirts or is there something, ANYTHING I can do to get rid of this. I hate walking around campus with this.

Damnit everything so far points to surgery and doctor consultation. The hormonal part doesn't work for me because I didn't have this problem when I started lifting and I swear I'm not on steroids .

Time to consult the wiz medical staff. Maybe I can get a $111 million contract afterwards.

nice pool workout last night included 4x 200 on 3:40 (that was painful)

the last/main set was 4x (3x100, first one 75 ez, 25 hard,
then 2nd 100 50-50,
then 3rd hundred 25 EZ, 75 hard

but I let the threat of rain keep me from biking in today

I last swam on Wednesday

500 warm up
2x200 free on 3:40
4x25 breaststroke kick on 1:00 (still rehabbing a groin injury)
4x100 on 1:45
4x25 one-arm butterfly on :40 (also rehabbing an abdominal injury)
6x75 free on 1:20, slow the first 25, cruise the second 25, sprint the third 25
100 warmdown
Got the entire workout done in 40 minutes.

I swam about 8 times in the past month and I'm finally getting into swimming condition. Unfortunately, my outdoor pool closes this weekend and I'm not a member of an indoor pool. Oh well. I'm almost 100% healthy now and should be able to focus exclusively on running in preparation for the 1/2 Marathon in October. The swimming was very helpful in my rehab because it reduced the pounding and strenghtened my core a bit.

I did a tempo run Tuesday and held a 7:02 pace for 4 miles (plus a .5 mile warmup and a .5 mile warmdown).

On my run Thursday, I did some interval training:
1.5 mile warmup at an 8:00 pace
0.5 mile sprint at 6:09 pace
0.25 easy at 8:58 pace
0.5 mile sprint at 5:51 pace
0.25 easy at 9:18
0.5 mile sprint at 5:39 pace
0.5 miles easy, didn't bother to track the pace.

I'm looking forward to my long run Saturday morning. I plan to go 9 miles. I'll bike 20-25 miles on Sunday.

^ nice times/workouts

If you can do those sprint times, you may be aiming too low
if all you want is a 1:40 half marathon. Obviously you need
to be able to pace yourself. But with a top end like that
(5:51 mi pace), backing off to around 7:30 miles shouldn't
be too hard.

I would really like to keep working on my interval/track
stuff until I can do a 6 flat or sub 6 mile again. It wasn't
that long ago I could do that. Wed night I did 3x 800
on just slightly over 3 flat with equal rest between them.

Ever try 30-30s? Or 60-60s?

30 (or 60) sec of nearly all out, with equal rest. When you
can knock out 15-20 of them without slowing down too much
on the later ones, you know you're in pretty good aerobic shape.

I ran a 1:41:30 in my 1/2 Marathon last year as an individual time trial by myself (I was too late to register for the official race). Since then, I've altered my runnin gait and have gone with a shorter stride. With the new gait, I immediately shaved 15 seconds off my mile pace so I'm optimistic that I'll pretty easily beat that 1:40 goal. I was worried when I got hurt last month that my conditioning would suffer, but by adopting swimming and running, I was able to stay in reasonably good shape. I'm now back to running at full speed so I'm ready to kick the training into high gear. I'm running three times a week: roughly 5 miles, 5 miles and 8 miles, but I intend to get that up to 5/5/10 within two weeks and 6/6/12 by the end of September. I'm also biking about 20 miles on Sunday. I'll taper a bit before the Half Marathon on October 18th.

The only reason my swimming times are reasonably fast is because I was once an All-Met swimmer in high school. It didn't take me long to get my muscle memory back. If I could have stuck with swimming for another month, I would have worked my way up to 3500-4000 yards per workout at a pace of roughly 1:40 per 100.

I'll give it a shot on my next interval day, Thursday.

I have decent stamina when I swim, but experience serious
diminishing returns when I try to swim hard. I go nearly as
fast just swimming relaxed.

Anyone interested in going for a mountain bike XC in patapsco state park this month? about 15-20 miles or so, experience level: intermediate, tricky in spots.

i have a $100.00 kmart bike to do it on, so equipment excuses dont count

I'm scheduled very tightly and generally have to plan workout close to home.

but it sounds fun. I would need access to something approximating an actual
mtb though.

todays workout - 2 hour 40 min trail run, done pretty slowly. Man I was soaked
with sweat at the end (and way before that for that matter). I sweat a LOT.

My foot's not getting better though. I'm beginning to get concerned with
3 big events coming up in the next 4 weeks. I gotta get this thing right
before I hurt something else due to favoring it.

tonight I did an easy 1300 meters in the pool. Excellent recovery workout.

No beer since my vacation.

Just got back from my lunchtime run. I'm getting faster. I ran 4 miles holding a 6:57 pace. It was much cooler outside and it really made a difference.
