Does anyone have doubts that dwight will recover 100% from his injury? the next gm should game plan for this imo.

Yea he should be out of his contract by now fromhis Italy team. Exactly the type of two guard we need, just a straight up slasher and driver off the dribble.

This means that you approach the Dwight situation a little differently than you would otherwise. You offer him the extension which if he doesn't accept you then look to trade him for a core that could contend right away. You do not trade him to begin rebuilding. Trades I'd look at would be for established stars, first or second All-NBA players. So a Bynum|Gasol package (has to be both) or a Melo|Chandler package and that is pretty much it. If you can't get either deal then you keep Dwight. Regardless, you are building a core to contend with immediately, so you are looking to package complimentary pieces to try a bring back a fringe All Star to fill out our core, a Ellis|Iggy|Gay|Smoove type player, and you do everything you can to get Nash here for the MLE (even if it means hiring D'Antoni). You also keep Ryan Anderson in either the trade Dwight or keep Dwight scenario, as he is already a fringe all star and a core piece that you just can't afford to lose. If trading our support pieces for a fringe star doesn't work you work like hell to trade Hedo. If that doesn't work you work like hell to trade Baby and JRich for cap space in '13, cap space that would then be used to acquire a fringe all star.
Best case is that Dwight extends, we sign Nash, we trade Redick|BBD|#19 for Iggy, Clark stays and/or Fran takes our Bi-Annual to come here, Nelson opts out and re-signs for much less, and we roll out with
Nash|JRich|Iggy|Anderson|Dwight bench Nelson|Fran|Hedo
i agree that keeping Dwight and making a run for next season makes the most sense, particularly if RDV is getting antsy and wants a ring sooner, rather than waiting for rebuilding efforts to reach that level again. frankly, you'd have to imagine that after owning the team for nearly 30 years that he'd understand how fleeting these opportunities are, and he'd do his best to stay at this level.
i'd bring your boy Anderson back, but only for the right price and/or it showed in free agency that there was a strong market for him. otherwise, if we're just bidding against ourselves then i'd offer him lowball offers or get him to take the option, and i'd constantly keep him in mind as a trade asset, because i certainly wouldn't commit to him as a long term option at this point. especially not at the expense of potentially adding Smith/Iggy/Monta, whom are all bigger impact players than him. i'd also hope that a new coach might actually find some ways to maximise his talent rather than using him solely as a shooter.
same goes for Jameer. i don't care how cheap he re-signs for, i wouldn't be adding any contracts at this point that extend beyond next summer. even Nash, i'd bring him in on a year to year deal. because i think cap space next summer is the most important thing, whether Dwight stays or not.
my secret hope? if we bring in Weaver, he's able to use some kind of OKC connection and he manages to convince Harden to come join us as #1b to Howard, and in the meantime he's able to swing a deal like you suggested (JJ + BBD + 19 for Iggy/Smith/Monta).

Highly doubt we give up BBD for anything. He's One of the guys Dwight requested. It's his buddy, and he's playing well now that he has settled in with the magic. Don't think we will see him traded.

Quick way to get back into contention is to be able to draft a horse and avoid the Kwame's and Emeka's. If we suck for a year, at least we'd have confidence in the guy to pick the Durant or Rose out of the crop.
Yep and that has A LOT to do with scouting....which for a long time we didn't take seriously....and a little bit of luck which has evaded us.....hopefully things can turn for the better with a clean slate....

I think Alex is going about this GM search the right way. Go get a guy from SA or OKC, those guys have experience and are smart. They know what it takes to run a true winning organization. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think the OKC guys also have some experience from SA. I know Presti came from SA.

ORL Receives: Rudy Gay
MEM Receives: Turkoglu/Redick/19th pick
MEM gets 2 expiring deals and get out of Gay's albatross deal and the 19th pick.
I'm trying to find ways to use Turk's deal as a trade asset. It's pretty tough.

I honestly don't think we've discussed this enough on this board. As a fan, I'm trying not to think about it, but damn right the front office better take it into consideration when trying to figure out D12's future.

I'm sure he'll be fine. What did he get... like 20 and 20 when his injury was at it's worst before he packed it in for the season?

Also I think we will hire Bower as well but would put my bid in for Weaver all day.
Irving is a no-no, it was the following :
LAL : Get Dwight
ORL : Get Thompson, Cavs 2012 Pick, Lakers 2012 Pick, Varejao (spelling)
CLE : Get Bynum, Hedo
I call bull
Ah ok. Thanks for the info. I would do that trade if Irving was included but not without him

LMFAO to Steve Kerr commenting about Harden's beard. Thought Crawfords whistle was a small bird flying outa Harden's beard

Re: Official Speculation Thread (Pt. XXIV: Offseason Edition
unlike last year orlando is in total control, there is no short time span to force a trade, orlando will simply take the best offer, regardless of dwights demands, because its well documented many teams are willing to take a chance renting him.
thats why those of you claiming orlando cannot clean the nets out, are crazy, their entire franchise depends on having dwill and dwight. we should be able to get lopez, brooks, the top 3 pick, and a few more picks. if they dont pony up orlando simply trades him to anyone who will meet their price

aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Exactly.
They need to sign Deron, and if it's true that Deron won't come without Dwight, then they can't afford to f*** this up.

No! Dwight was dominant WITH the injury and now that he's going through the rehabbing, even if he comes back 75%, I think he'll be fine. Now, I don't expect him to complete 82 games a season anymore because he might have some flair-ups with his back, but I don't have doubts about Dwight coming back strong. Now, of course, I don't know what will happen in the future, so I'm only going based on what I saw from him with the injury.
