He actually reminds me of JR Smith skill wise. A PG minded version of JR Smith with a brain is top NBA player.

So what made you think that using JR Smith as a comparison would sell him to Knicks fans?? Because that's one of the worst names you could have mentioned to a Knicks fan.

I'm kind of torn between mudiay or towns at number 3. I understand the apprehensions some may have about him though.

And for some reason Russell strikes me as that type of prospect that has a solid season and gets over-hyped in a shallow draft class then ends up going top three, but ends up being more of a serviceable player as a pro than a star (ie. Evan Turner, Derrick Williams, Michael Beasley, etc.). I don't know why Russell strikes me that way.

If we go Okafor or Towns, which center can we sign to start over him to start the year for cheap, like cap MLE or less cheap?

Russell has 3 of the most important attributes that a guard needs in order to be successful in the league, he can shoot it, handle it and pass the ball. I'd be shocked if out of the top 4 he ended up being the bust.

Can't say I disagree with any of those assessments .

I had Okafor no.1 and Towns no.2. Now they are a toss up.

From the NY Post on Mudiay.

When he’s not calling the Knicks as the team’s radio voice, broadcaster Mike Crispino has gotten a chance to do what most NBA fans haven’t done — watch top-5 draft prospect, point guard Emmanuel Mudiay and ex-Knick Stephon Marbury play in China.
Crispino has broadcast about 20 Chinese Basketball Association games this season for a fledgling cable station, One World Sports, from a studio. He called the Marbury-vs.-Mudiay matchup Monday — Game 4 of the CBA semifinals.

“I did a couple of his games early on and he looked like a high school player who didn’t look physically up to being in a professional league — he looked like a teenager,’’ Crispino told The Post at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Wednesday before the Knicks were routed by the Pacers. “He showed flashes of being a good basketball player but nothing like he’d be a top-5 pick.’’

Nevertheless, when Crispino caught Mudiay in Monday’s contest after missing three months, his opinion changed. The Knicks can assure themselves of a top-4 pick if they remain as the league’s worst team.

Certainly, they are in play for the 19-year-old.

“He looked totally different, he filled out, hit the weight room, he looked more like a grown man — if you can say that about a 19-year-old,’’ Crispino said. “He was more confident. But he’s still doing a lot of things that are just mistakes — that you wouldn’t do if you had experience under your belt. He’s still very inexperienced as a basketball player on the professional level.’’

Good read. I kinda feel the same way regarding the whole Towns/Okafor comparison. My hope at this point is that come draft night, the Knicks are in position to grab one of them or whoever emerges as the BPA between now and then.

Early in today's game KAT is showing that "do it all" potential.

Towns has the highest upside by far. In today's NBA you need that freak athlete factor to get to the very elite status that Lebron, Durant, Westbrook, and Davis are.

He doesn't have upside like those guys at all. Not near the athlete Davis was in college. I'd still take one of the guards over this guy and not look back. I'm sorry but the Knicks are in dire need of a penetrating guard that can get others involved and or score. Signing a guy like Robin Lopez and drafting either Mudiay or Russell is better than drafting Towns and signing a guy like Danny Green.

The thing that I like about Towns that might be overlooked, is his workman like demeanor. He doesn't get overly demonstrative when he doesn't get the ball. He plays hard and consistently, even when things aren't going his way. When things are going his way, he continues to play within the system. He exhibits both basketball IQ and general intelligence and seems to be a good person off the court. Early in the season he has visibly gotten down on himself when things weren't working to his favor, but it wasn't the sulking I saw from D. Russel and it didn't affect the effort that he gave on D like I saw from Russel and Okafor. He has been much better at keeping his head up as the season continued, but when it wasn't he always gave consistent effort. Coach Cal gives him a lot of s*** (many times over small things) and he takes it in stride.

Basically, this overlooked aspect about Towns gives me confidence that he will be able to play in NY and not be affected and distracted by all of its trappings. I think the Knicks' general strategy involved with acquiring players should heavily take this into account.

Towns is average athletically...

It's actually one of the things that might hold him back.

I just think Towns will be special imho. Not Davis special but he's gonna be good - real good and I think he's NBA ready now. I salivate @ a Melo/Towns/Milsap front court.

I don't want Towns, feel like he has bust material all over him. What makes him so special though? What player do they project him to become, comparison wise?
