I'd be wary of giving Simmons a very large deal given that he'll be 28 before the season begins and saw his stats fall across the board after his fairytale rookie year.
A Trevor Booker kind of deal seems fair, though I'm not sure he'll go for it given that that's what the Spurs appeared to be offering.

3/27 - 3/33 is what I'd offer. Not going over board for Simmons. He's valuable as a 2 way player not as a building block.

Therefore he's not valuable to this team, at this point in time, he's simply a cap clogger.

Re: 2017 Nets Offseason Thread III
I don't like the idea of paying 2 guys $10M+ to basically be the same type of player (Simmons & Carroll). For the same reason I don't think it's worth going after Green unless it's on a favorable deal but at that point Memphis would match.
Since there aren't any good multi-year options I'd just keep our flexibility available for cap dumps + picks and sign a veteran PF/C with some offensive ability that can compliment Mozgov/Booker/RHJ/Allen, like Diaw, to a 1 year deal. That 10 man rotation would be infinitely better than last year's, with some nice depth guys behind them when injuries inevitably occur. We know Diaw was a great fit in the Spurs system and he knows how to contribute coming off the bench.
Lin / Dinwiddie / Whitehead
Russell / Kilpatrick / Goodwin
Carroll / Levert / Harris
RHJ / Booker / Acy
Mozgov / Diaw / Allen

I would pass on Simmons and just claim Nwaba off waivers

As long as it is a 1 year deal, as you mentioned, I am definitely in agreement that thia is what we should do. I'd also be okay with Reed in place of diaw if he is willing to accept a 1 year deal.

No way he gets more than 1 year, or else someone would have traded for him. I'd guess 1 year 4M gets it done. Maybe a little more than that in incentives.

Looks like they just renounced Simmons to free up cap room to get this guy... Spurs being Spurs

If he willing to take that deal then I would much rather have him than diaw.

I don't buy into Simmons at all. Hes not a good player.
Poppovich makes scrubs look good all the time. Besides hes 28.
Time to roll into the season with
Russell
Levert
DMC
RHJ
Mozgov
28 wins here we come!

ive shown in the other thread how tanking doesnt work and how the teams who built through the draft didnt tank

Yep.
The idea should be to compile a base of young talent that can be used to either build the team off of or be used as assets in the long run. If Sean Marks is operating under the idea that he'll toss everything away the year after next to tank for some kid that is 17 years old right now he should be rightfully fired. It's a moronic idea
we've got some young pieces with upside, and we got back into the 2018 draft. we are on the right course. The 2019 draft pick will fall where ever it will fall, but we should be continuing to focus on competing, adding to the talent that we have, and maintaining flexibility. Stay the course. We are doing things the right way. I don't care if our pick in 2019 may fall to what, 10? 12? 14? We can still get a good player from that or have an asset that can be used to package with that pick.
Also, if you advocate tanking in 2019 for one of these 17 year old kids everyone is sweating because of youtube AAU highlights, you should also advocate trading every young player on the roster before hand because if the Nets tank they will have lied and betrayed every single one of them who is buying into the culture and wants to compete every night.
I think "tanking" and "base of young talent" might be a distinction without a difference. Both achieve the goal of a poor record that will lead to a high draft pick.
If the Nets ultimately waive, stretch, trade, or let go veterans like Joe Johnson, Deron Williams, Garnett, Lopez, Thad, Bogs, that is essentially a tank. Same thing for the Bulls in letting Rondo and Butler go or the Pacers in letting PG13 and Teague go.
The Nets didn't intentionally lose last year, they busted their asses. But because of poor talent and injuries, they essentially tanked.
For 2019, I think it will be telling how the Nets do in 2018. If they surprise and win say 35 games, do they try to worsen their roster to win less games in 2019 (say by trading Lin, Booker, etc. -- but not a "tank"), or do they build on their roster to shoot for playoffs by 2019.
Tanking is teams attempting to lose games on purpose. If we lose games due to youth and inexperience fine, but the Nets front office isn't going out there and doing what the Sixers front office did which is to lose games on purpose. I don't think we need to get into semantics about that.
The Nets aren't going to worsen their roster on purpose for 2019...i think if any vets get traded it will be for the long term picture and not about trying to lose games. You don't build a productive environment by basically neutering your players and making it known that the team isn't trying to compete, no matter what the talent and experience level is by then

Re: 2017 Nets Offseason Thread III
Simmons might have made sense as a Porter backup plan pre-Carroll trade but he doesn't now.
There's an obvious opening for an offensive presence in the front court, I assume that's what Marks is investigating and is just looking to get the best bang for his buck. Literally.

From the Yahoo article:
Simmons and the Spurs have had no new negotiations since the qualifying offer was pulled Thursday, and Simmons has focused fully on signing elsewhere, agent Cervando Tejeda told The Vertical.
