Yes! They did, and as we all know preseason and training camp is a tryout of sorts. Fringe players fight for roster spots. Guaranteed players fight for playing time. After that fight, Kanter and O'Quinn had playing time, so clearly the won, or EARNED, playing time. See how that works?

So you're saying that if the Knick organization decided that Kanter and O'Quinn were better (even if slightly better) then the logical course of action is to never play Willy so as to reduce his value to nil? Have you been hanging out with Beasley or something?

Perhaps, yes. I'm saying that clearly they were better coming out of camp and during the season. Furthermore, it probably made more sense to play O'Quinn as he's a free agent and you want to test his market by showcasing him. From the beginning of the season, they stated Willy was in the organization's LONG TERM PLANS. They also said they wanted the playoffs, so best man wins playing time, but Willy with two more years on his deal after this season would still have time for playing time down the line if he earns it. Everything they said and how it played out makes sense. Would it have been better if Willy came in and won the starting spot or a reserve role? Yes! But he didn't.

Don't try to insinuate that I'm high or something. I'm assuming that was what you meant with the Beasley reference. I'm explaining my logic in a pretty coherent fashion.

Maybe we move those two seconds Wily style and get us back an Isaac Bonga?

Good luck

Dwight is going to the Cavs and he, Frank, and Zeller all have different skillset plays he's better than Frank. Dude is gonna get PT and look just as good as last year and we'll be laughingstocks once again. Such a Knicks move. Got KOQ, Kanter, Noah, and Willy and the one of the bunch we move so we can get younger and tank is the 23 year old.

Hornacek the latest buffoon to hurt the Knicks' roster value. Please get this guy out of MSG. Ship him UPS if you have to. The Knicks board will collect a penny from every user until we can get Jeff back to wherever he came from by priority express overnight.

Umm shouldn't KP be having the surgery on the first possible date? No timetable?

Ask Hornacek for a surgical recommendation.

Yes! Oh wait, that wasn't right... So Jack eventually starts and Sessions is where now? On the bench. The market corrected itself. If Willy is STILL on the bench now, that means the guys in front of him never faltered and/or he never beat them out for minutes! Bringing up other players only strengthens my argument. Hornacek is clearly willing then to make adjustments if someone earns it.

That or the coaching staff have no f@cking clue. I bet on the no f@cking clue.

I might agree with you, EXCEPT WE ALL SAW WILLY PLAY THIS YEAR. Where was his dominant performance? Even at the beginning of camp, he came in out of shape from reports, which is really hard to do if you're playing for your international squad during the summer lol... Nah, I'm betting that he just got outplayed. I don't know why that's so out of the realm of possibility for some of you.

The Knicks FO said they were committed to go young. Jeff Hornacek does not actually adjust anything, he goes with experience over anything else. You cannot have a new regime tout how they are going to build the right way, develop young guys....blah blah blah, and then bench a guy who showed more promise than half the bigs on the team as rookie all because he comes out flat to start the year. FO needs to keep their commitments and Horny needs to fall in line with their plan. Everyone is not on the same page, and the made a move essentially for no reason at all.

Got it now. Veteran can suck ballz and get guaranteed minutes. Youth had to DOMINATE to get time. We saw Willy getting 14/10 followed by six straight DNPs. Idiotic approach to say the least

It took kP being out for an actual rebuild. This is super sad. Not like he’s 28. He should be in the rebuild.

Then again he’s lied before lol.

your darn right lol. even though 1 half of our future frontcourt is traded and the other half is out for a year with an acl surgery I am glad you can also see the bright side of things like me. All our players will have cool manga and anime to entertain themselves during plane rides.

Except, Kanter and O'Quinn haven't sucked balls. By all accounts, Willy has. And yes, in sports, you have to TAKE someone's spot sometime. If his 14/10 is enough to keep him in the lineup (defense be damned), then the play of Kanter and O'Quinn is enough to keep their minutes. Nothing happens in isolation. It's a team sport, right?

Would this trade have been made without the injury last night? I know O'Bryant is a PF who shoots 3s, so didn't know if that maybe had something to do with it. The timing seems to work, but that's a pretty quick trigger (not that there was much time left before the trade deadline).

I got this figured out.

Knicks have been talking about "culture" and I'm sure somewhat they mean basketball culture, but MSG has always cared more about image than actuality. The team took a big PR hit with Phil sounding off in the paper etc, even KP creating his circus. Now, KP is the "talent" so he got away with it but:
Phil got canned. I mean, rightly so, but bear with me.
That sort of stuff is embarrassing to Dolan. Anyone who has followed the team for a while know he HATES bad press. Way more than bad play (obviously)

Dolan told Mills, in no uncertain terms, that he wants way less noise around the team. Mills does what Dolan wants, above all.

Noah mouthed off - GONE
WHG talked to the press about wanting to be traded - GONE

This move had little to do with roster construction, talent etc and a LOT to do with an edict from Dolan that the BS of talking and making the papers stops.
