Oh man. That play is absolutely nuts. I don't think I have ever see that before. 35 years watching, I can't remember a single time a player misses a three, and slams back the rebound.

Damn.

For example, if the Mavericks landed him could they ask OKC for SGA & 10 picks?

If Portland got him could they get Brooklyn to give them M. Bridges, Cam Johnson, DFS, and picks?

Would Dallas trade Wembanyama (plus bad contracts) for basically Brooklyn's entire team? Something like:

Wembanyama
Bertans
Hardaway Jr.
McGee
Bullock

for

Mikal Bridges
DFS
Claxton
Cam Thomas
Cameron Johnson (S&T)
Their 2029 pick back

It leaves Dallas with:
PG Kyrie/Hardy
SG Bridges/Thomas
SF DFS/Green
PF Luka/Johnson
C Claxton/Kleber

That's easily a title contender and all of their bad contracts are off the books - particularly if they can leverage their contender status into getting Kyrie to sign a more team friendly deal.

Interesting thought. I think there would be more question marks for the Nets than the Mavs. While Wembanyama could have an extremely high (all-time great) ceiling, you can't guarantee that. The expected value for the Dallas team would be higher than that of the Nets. If I was Brooklyn, I would probably ask to keep one of Thomas or Claxton in that scenario. But interesting for both teams.

Yeah, I'm hearing this too. It was posted on April 1st though. Tough if true.

Obviously an April fool's joke, but that kid would be a moron not to declare and start running down the clock on his max extension asap.

I wish him well but he's a massive walking injury risk.

Not to be a wet blanket or anything but Wemby kinda of struggled in that game against Motejunas with 8 points in 9 shots. And that was really one of his few chances in that league to go against some strong competition. He still had a ridiculous 14 rebounds and 3 blocks which just goes to show he's so talented that he will absolutely impact the game even in nights that his shot isn't falling. But he still has a lot to learn which is obviously fine, but it might surprise people who expect him to drop 30 every night as a rookie because of all the crazy hype.

Unfortunately a lot of people will call him bust because of this. The game against Monaco is exactly how he will translate early on in the NBA. Offensive struggle as he adjusts to a higher level of competition with a lot of inconsistency in his scoring production but already a very good defender with his instincts despite his skinny frame.

we fooled around all season long but time to get real:

If Wemby can stay healthy he will be a high impact player right out of the gate, a hof'er and probably a top 15 ATG player

despite the changes in lottery odds, even an increased 5% of getting this calibre of player is something you should shoot for every time, teams that didn't tank as hard as they could would be regretting that decision pretty shortly

that's my hot take anyway..

There are reasons some euro execs call this guy Bustanyama. I hope he pans out for who ever picks him but it is not a sure thing.

Please, provide a link or any other kind of evidence for that. I don't buy that for one second without such evidence.

I mean, their odds are no different than if they would have finished the season on a 10 game win streak...

Ι hate it that the best players have to go to the crappiest team and then wait for years for some overpaid FA who would rather be in LA to come and save them. And then the overpaid FA is sometimes a Kyrie type idiot.

If a team is bad they should be allowed and incentivised to work with local youth and create their own talent in their own basketball academies. Drafting is an archaic system IMO.

If Popovich draws out number one and gets generational talent Wembanyama, he should enter the Hall of Fame in two separate categories: one category for coaching success and another category for the most successful NBA tank commander of all time. Considering last time he shamelessly tanked a top NBA team with an MVP and 59 wins in the 95-96 season to draw a generational talent and a second MVP in summer 1997 (Duncan), it would be well earned justice this time around if the Spurs fall to draw out at seven or eight.
