I'm still holding out hope Miami trades for either Miles Bridges and/or Grant Williams. I'd also like to see Miami get a real point guard.

Real point guard / Richardson
Butler / Robinson
Bridges / JJJ
Williams / Love /Jovic
Adebayo / Bryant

27m for a player of Herro's caliber and potential is worth it, imo. Yes he's one-dimensional at this time, and yes, his shot selection and decision making needs refinement. But that's the price you pay for a guy that won ROY at age 22.

Some called him a gloried Jordan Clarkson. Others say he's a CJ McCollum-lite. Clarkson is 7 years older than and earns 3.5m less than Herro. CJ is 8 years older and learns 10m more than Herro.

Herro may be closer to Clarkson than to McCollum at this point, and he earns a slight premium (3.5m more) due to his youth and potential.

Like you said, if his shot profile can be fixed then he'll improve substantially. If he can become an average defender then he'll improve substantially. Both are 'ifs' but that's the price you pay for the 'ifs'. If it pans out, Herro will be great value for his contract. If it doesn't pan out, then we lost a slight premium in the Tyler Herro investment. However, his next contract will renew for about the same as he's making now.

This is 2024 lol. 3rd/4th options earn 25m+.

How about don't pay those prices for any of those players? I don't care what the price is for those players, I'd rather have a max player that's efficient than 2 mid-level guys like any 2 of the 3 of Herro, Rozier or Robinson.

There's only so many 'max' players to go around. I would rather have a max star making 40m on my team then having Rozier and Duncan combine for 40m - but there is only so much supply. With limited supply, you either keep on waiting or you go for the next best thing.

Undoubtedly, the FO has made some bad calls on contracts (Duncan being one of them). But it's not like we had a choice between a star level player and Herro + Duncan, and opted to go for Herro + Duncan over the star. That has never happened. We lost out on Harden, Kyrie, etc. because of their off court shenanigans (not saying it was the right move on our part, just that the Herro contract had little to do with it).

Pat's biggest issue is he allows other teams to make us overpay our developed guys.

We need to learn to trade guys we develop..... before the contracts come up for free agency.

Stop falling in love with them.

For example, should have traded Caleb. Now it's overpay or watch another team take him. assuming he turns down his PO

And I'll repeat. Herro and Duncan would have been sent packing in summer of 2020 after our Finals, for an disgruntled all-star somewhere. Their value was all time high there.

But Pat falls in love and believe our pumpkin trash pile discoverys are legit... Hassan, Tyler Johnson, Duncan, the new 2nd Tyler etc.

There's a reason why these guys were on a trash pile. Rehabilitate them and sell other teams on their potential... send them packing for proven thoroughbreds.

The problem is it would require a fundamental change in our way of operating. We need cheap talent for cap purposes with the way we operate and structure the team. That comes at a price. Undrafted player can be signed to 3 year tops with a portion of the MLE if im not mistaken. That means year one and two are basically developmental leaving one good year to perform before the next contract give or take. First round draft picks get 4 years. Then remember since we signed them to cheap contracts, it’s hard to make trades match up. Also remember since these are undrafted players, they will rightfully go to whatever team gives them top dollar since this is there chance to make real money, loyalty just doesnt exist in this environment. Factoring our real fear of paying the tax, if a team wants a player, its cheaper just to wait until they are free agents and pay the MLE since we dont want to commit that amount of money to them, or they can try to trade us a 2nd round draft picks. You dont really get much value because they wont have much time left on their contract.

Ainge seemingly values picks most of all.

If NY wants him, Mia has virtually no shot.

People very much overplay the Ainge/Riley angle. If there's a deal to be made that benefits both sides then they'll deal, Miami is no longer the one man-one voice operation that it used to be when it comes to player acquisition, and it hasn't been for some time. And on Utah's side Ainge isn't even the primary shotcaller. Their GM did an interview a month ago alluding to them having assets for a 'blockbuster', I don't see dealing Lauri to LA, Miami, or NY as part of that.

Seems that Markkanen thing is just clickbait. It was just an NBA GM throwing out hypothetical fits.
