The Mavericks were motivated to move Doncic because of his constant conditioning concerns, sources told MacMahon. There had been significant frustration within the organization about Doncic's lack of discipline regarding his diet and conditioning, which team sources considered a major factor in his injury issues.

Doncic has been limited to only 22 games this season because of a variety of injuries. He has twice strained his left calf since reporting back to Dallas before training camp in late September, although the Mavs reported the fall injury only as a calf contusion, sources said. Doncic has not played since straining his calf on Christmas Day.

Though Doncic was relatively svelte by his standards when he reported to camp, his weight ballooned to the high 260s early this season, sources said. He sat out five games in late November, when the Mavs listed him with a sprained right wrist, an extended absence to allow Doncic to focus on his conditioning. He had a similar early-season layoff in the 2022-23 season.

Seems like damage control/propaganda.

Luka's always had conditioning issues. But he also led them to the Finals just last year - these issues are not franchise-crippling like they are with Zion. This is not a reasonable reason to trade a young superstar for an aging star, with no blue-chip prospect or haul of picks coming back.

This was likely an ownership decision based on dodgy financial reasons or political reasons.

Lakers get Luka for nothing and we possibly have OG out for the reason of the season.

Classic NBA.

And I fully believe Luka might have already peaked due to conditioning, effort, and injury, but there was unquestionably a better deal available right now for the longterm viability of the franchise.

Come playoffs I don't care if his weight is Eddy Curry, Luka is one of the fiercest competitors in the L, like Mike he doesn't wanna just beat you, he wants to eat your hearts out...

He just completely dominated the playoffs and led them to Finals... and the Mavs had lived through Luka's bad conditioning for years... I understand if he's 30yo, but 25yo?? A little bit motivation he loses weight and he's back dominating

Really no justification for not doing the proper due diligence and getting offers from all 29 other teams. Not to mention accepting a franchise crippling offer. Whatever their reasons, this was handled in the worst possible way imaginable. There must’ve been an endless amount of better packages they could’ve received

He just led the Mavs to the Finals last season, what are the Mavs talking about??

If the Mavs feel that way towards Luka, what do teams feel toward their defense-less superstars like the Knicks toward JB??

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Towns also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s a sprained ankle no? That’s only a week or two. We should count our lucky stars, especially before all star break

Losing a star like Luka couldn’t have happened to a better franchise. The Mavs snuck KP out of New York and tanked to avoid paying the draft pick they owed. I am happy to watch them about to become a crap franchise in a few years and stay that way going forward.

With that said….. we paid way too much for Mikal. Then again we got KAT on a good deal.

No way they trade a 25 yr old super star that just carried em to the finals and slander him on the way out with "defense wins championships" if it didn't get ugly

but it makes no sense. they could have gotten a lot more than this for Luka.

They didn't even tell anyone except the lakers.

We need an Illuminati Rule.
Any superstars to be traded need to be offered to the leauge first.
This underhanded stuff (often with Lakers) is screwing fans (except Lakers) and the league.

OKC could have blown out that offer. Many teams could have.
