Re: 2023 NFL Draft Discussion - Bears Trade #1 to Panthers for DJ Moore + 4 Picks
JSN set the Big Ten record for receiving yards last year. Zero chance he was falling to the 2nd especially with how high all the other WR went.
Also - Gute won’t pigeon hole position. He will definitely take an athlete but it’s not going to be shocking at all if he takes JSN depending on how the board falls.
Also - nobody believes all the Packers needs will be filled in one draft. Next few years are restocking years and evaluating Love.
Also - Gute won’t pigeon hole position. He will definitely take an athlete but it’s not going to be shocking at all if he takes JSN depending on how the board falls.

As proven by all the other Round 1 WR's the Packers have taken over the years ?? Gute defintely pigeon holes high draft picks

WR +235
DL +250
OL +250
TE +320
DB +750
LB +3300
QB +8000
RB +8000
Trying to figure out a couple of bets to make it more interesting.
I don't think they'd do it but QB or RB at +8000 is insane. I could certainly see a world where Gute takes Bijan or Levis, certainly better than +8000 odds.
For the rest I think the DB is the best number on the board since there are quite a few corners I could see Gute liking. I'm assuming Edge rushers are considered DL & not LB

WR seems like a bad bet. TE seems like the safest money.

Adebawore would be the most Gute pick ever.

I agree, TE is probably the safest bet, surprised it isn't the favorite

ER, OT, or trade down is my guess.
Trading down always kinda sucks but if they ended up with a FR pick in the 20's and 3 early 2nd Round picks (including a 2nd from a Rodgers trade) I think they could do some damage

Fluid runner unlike Darnell Washington but nothing close to a burner that’s for sure. But, having said that, the dude has clouds for hands and catches everything and always seems to find himself open so it’s really hard to tell how actually fast he plays? I mean dude made some insane catches for being such a massive human being. Im not gonna be upset at all if he’s the guy.. I can definitely see why some rank him TE1. Professional conditioning and training could do wonders for him and if he does add some extra juice to his overall movement, he could really be a force in the league.
The problem I have with Mayer is if he had slight problems separating in college, he is gonna have major problems separating in the NFL. He is a square body throwback and you will have to live with the limitations. The question is, which Round do the limitations still provide value ? Certainly not Round 1 pick #15 IMO.
Also, how is he better than LaPorta who can be had a Round or two later ?
Definitely a fair assessment and I’m not sure there’s a logical answer there without finding out first hand…. Mayer definitely had coverage draped over him on a lot of his routes. Plays that were designed to free him were the only times you saw him run a free route. I agree that doesn’t bode well in the pros either. I still think he holds pretty high value tho just considering he’s massive and catches everything thrown to him.
Idk about LaPorta truthfully. I’ll have to watch more on him. I’ve only watched the top 3 so far Mayer Kincaid Washington. I like all 3 for different reasons.

If I had to bet on a single player right now I'd guess Mayer.

Man with Bijan being considered a once in a decade talent. That seems like the play. Are Jones and Dillon even realistically on the roster this time next year?

RB would also be my bet, even though I don't think it happens.
And no I don't think either are. Robinson is high on my wish list.

Listening to Chad Reuter on the Bart Winkler podcast and he made a good point on the tight ends.
Given their need I think Green Bay may have to take one in the first round if they expect an impact player. These guys are probably all pretty close together on teams’ boards so what you may see is once the first domino falls there’s going to be a run.
In other words, the Packers may be screening themselves over if they think because of the depth they’ll be able to snag a starter type in round 2 or 3. Happened a few years ago (I wanna say the Love draft) where the biggest perceived need was wide receiver and the run happened before they could get their guy.
I still like Deguara’s potential in a LaFleur offense but they are playing with fire if they don’t get one of these guys.
I think the best scenario is probably try to trade back into the mid 20’s or so. Probably likely you end up with one of Kincaid or Mayer or possibly have to reach a bit for Washington. My tiers would be
15th
Kincaid
Late 1st/Early 2
Mayer/Washington (could be sold on either over the other)
Mid to late 2
Musgrave
Laporta
Kraft
3-4
Schoonmaker
Kuntz
Mallory
Latu

It wouldn't shock me if Musgrave is actually TE1 on some team boards.

So many very athletic guys at the position. Kind of hard for me to see someone with such low production being at the top of the board, but who knows. Weird to think about a guy like Gieseki being considered an athletic freak for so many years and then this draft there are a bunch of the same type of guys coming out.

I'm not sure we should be expecting immediate starter production from any rookie Tight end, sure there are exceptions to the rule, but in most cases Tight ends take 2-3 to really develop, even the really good ones. That said I don't think that should deter the Packers from drafting any position similar because I don't think immediate impact is that important this year. If you get it that's great but this team isn't a Superbowl contender by any stretch so long term production far outweighs short term production to me

This is why I want to double dip. Get me run blocking guy that can step in day 1. And then get me the pass catching TE. Washington in the 2nd, Josh Whyle in the 4th would probably be a realistic option
I suppose when I say it like that, it actually makes me think I am underrating Mayer. Because he is probably the one guy that comes and plays like a 5 year vet that can block and catch out the gate.

I'd be all for double dipping at TE on days 2 & early day 3. Same with WR. If I assume JSN doesn't fall to 15 then something like
15. Van Ness
42. Washington
45. Mingo
78. Rice
116. Whyle
I'd really enjoy that draft

Depending if there's a Rogers deal pre-draft and draft picks this season come across, my bet is at least by round two, there's an OT taken. Bahktiari is almosta assuredly gone after this season and Nijman is working on a one-year deal, so additional high quality help is a need. Tackles need time to develop too, so one this year should be a priority. Jenkins is locked in for now (and hes best on the interior) and Zach Tom has shown promise and is versatile, but after those two, its a definite step down in quality
I harp on it, but the regular season wear-and-tear attrition on linemen is real, so you can never have too many good ones. Neumann and Hansen are just placeholder guys who should be replaced with upgrades. Hopefully Myers makes a step ahead this season.

This probably also depends on how they feel about Caleb Jones and/or Rasheed Walker, both of whom they basically redshirted on the 53 man roster last year

The major assumption is that there are impact TE's available
