Re: ATL - Metcalf to Steelers/Darnold to Seahawks
This feels like the weirdest offseason in that so many of these guys are getting paid that I thought for sure had been out of the league for years (Fowler, Grady Jarrett, Jake Matthews, Leonard Floyd, Kyle Juszczyk, Von Miller, Bobby Wagner, Zach Ertz, Jarran Reed, Calais Campbell). Those 2014-2016 draft classes had some keepers.

Ah, I would've done that one. Probably sees more opportunities in Seattle though.

I'd definitely have done that as well. It's no so much MVS specifically, just he fits a specific need really well. Going to have to find that vertical threat in the draft now

We don't need more guys to drop walk in touchdowns.

Maybe we had interest and he didn't want to come back, don't know. But I'm fine passing on him.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

It's wild to me how much you think the vertical threat role doesn't matter. There are numerous numbers and metrics that show how much having a guy who can sufficiently fill that role matters and can positively effect an offense. It doesn't have to be MVS specifically, he just happened to be the last one on the market, but the Packers need to find someone to fill that role. They have nobody on the roster currently who can be that guy.

You say this like you are dunking on MVS while everyone already knows exactly what he is. He just would've happened to fill a role on the cheap for a year that we need filled while Watson is out. It's not deeper than that.

Will be officially released. I think some team will probably talk themselves into paying him a decent amount, just not expecting it to be the Packers.

Don't really get this whole obsession with needing a "deep threat" or "#1 Alpha WR" in MLF's offense if Love is as good as we all hope/need him to be. Jacobs/Reed/Kraft/Doubs plus whatever you get from the others is already an incredibly solid foundation of skill weapons that any franchise QB would be envious of. We just saw a mediocre QB win the Super Bowl basically throwing to just two guys. All the quality dudes are off the board so I'd rather just address it in the draft at this point.

Your deep threat doesn't need to be an alpha. He just needs to be a guy who the defense respects as a vertical threat so they can't condense the field down. They certainly can address the role in the draft, but it is a role any good offense needs to have filled. I think the idea of Green Bay needing to add an "alpha" is overrated.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. Buffalo just drafted a rookie (Keon Coleman) to fill that void but it's not like he was the big reason their offense has been consistently awesome for years. Tucker Kraft is already one of the best vertical field stretchers in the league from the TE position. Jayden Reed was tied for 6th in explosive plays and it sure wasn't because he was just catching bubble screens and slants. I think it's an overrated need even with Watson being hurt unless, again, Love isn't the guy we think he is.

Jayden Reed was absolutely brutal vs Man coverage last year. I mean absolutely awful. He was great vs zone but anytime a corner manned him up he couldn't create any separation.
I said this after the Bears game when Watson got hurt that Green Bay was toast against Philly because they had nobody who could fill that vertical threats role once Watson went down and we saw that play out in the playoff game.
It should be noted that Buffalo just gave Josh Palmer 3/36 to come in and fill that vertical threats role because Keon Coleman couldn't do it. That's the risk with the draft.
I don't think Green Bay's offense would necessarily be bad without a deep threat, but it won't be as elite as it was last season if they can't fill that role successfully

Neither did the 49ers (they were even slower than GB) and they had the #4 passing offense in the NFL.
Go look at the 2021 Rams collection of WRs. No deep threats, and 4.62 Cooper Kupp had one of the best seasons in NFL history. Here's a video of him running wide open down the field for 12 minutes.
#5 ranked passing offense that year.

Lol at the idea that the 49ers haven't had WRs capable of being vertical threats the last few years.
Same with the 2021 Rams. That Rams team had Desean Jackson for 7 games and Van Jefferson for every game.

Viking fan coworker just stopped by and said the Vikings are apparently discussing Rodgers. It would be hilarious, sad, but also kind of worrying because I think he could be really good in that offense.

Bo Melton ran a faster 40 than MVS & he's on the roster.
