Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
What is NY doing?
If we get #3 and Morant is still on the board, I'd trade back with Knicks for #5 and DSJ.
He's a valuable trade asset, even now.

THJr is vastly superior player to Matthews. I get he has a bad rep and all that but Matthews is a horribly overrated guy and he could never score like THJr can. Jordan has been average overall and bad, at times, defensively (which is all he's there for). DSJr wasn't engaged and he's missed several games as it is.
Long story long, it's quite possible this is addition by subtraction. All in all, they're not dramatically different today than they were before this trade.
Our pick is aiight.
THJr is an overrated chucker and has always been that. This idea that’s he’s somehow a world beater is crazy. Dude is a the type of player that always looks good in LOSING situations. Dudes game doesn’t contribute to winning basketball. Now Wesley Matthews isn’t great but if anything they would have equivalent impact. THJr is not an upgrade over Wesley Matthews.
DeAndre Jordan is still one of the top rim protectors in the league and defensively has been playing very well. Very well. They didn’t replace him AT ALL. Their best defensive player.
DSJr is still a player and a (low-end) starting caliber right now today in his 2nd year. He was the only halfway decent ball handler remaining other than Doncic. Once you sit Doncic, who runs point ? Again. He wasn’t replaced at all.
This isn’t addition by subtraction. This is indirect tanking. If they don’t make any big FA signings soon (and KP doesn’t come back), then it’s clear they aren’t concerned with competing this year.
That puts our pick in real jeopardy.
Good thing is, we can check back in a few weeks and revisit your panic attack. Step back from the ledge, mayne.

No panic attack here. Just me sharing my opinion on a message board. We’ll see how this turns out..

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
NBC Sports - ChicagoNBA Draft Big Board 3.0
The 2019 draft is shaping up as one of the weakest in several years. After watching games involving the top prospects over the last 3 months, it’s pretty obvious there are 3 tiers to this year’s draft.Spoiler:
Tier 1: Zion Williamson. Potential franchise-changing talent who’s probably closer to Blake Griffin than LeBron James.
Tier 2: R.J. Barrett and Ja Morant: Potential multiple time All-Stars in the NBA. Barrett has the versatile scoring ability to average 20+ PPG on a consistent basis, while Morant is an explosive play-maker who has drawn comparisons to Sacramento’s 2nd year point guard De’Aaron Fox, with a ceiling of former league MVP’s Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook.
Tier 3: Everyone else.
In putting together a top 10 prospects list, the truth is you really can’t find any significant difference between Jarrett Culver at No. 4 and a player who might be drafted in the 20’s. Take any player on this week’s list between 4 and 10, and it’s likely he would have a tough time cracking the lottery in either of the last two drafts.
Culver is a nice prospect who can score and can play the 2 and the 3, but isn’t an exceptional athlete. Reddish has been all hype to this point. You can see he has good positional size at 6’8” and is athletic enough to attack closeouts and get to the rim. But Reddish was billed as a knockdown 3-point shooter, and he’s been frighteningly inconsistent from beyond the college arc to this point, shooting 33%.
Bottom line, once you get past the top 3, beauty will definitely be in the eye of the beholder for the 2019 NBA draft. I’m still hoping a couple players will start to move closer to Tier 2 as we head into conference tournaments and the NCAA big dance.

They lost all their secondary ball handlers now that DSJr is gone and Barea is hurt. I think they finish at 30 wins give or take 2 wins. That could realistically drop them in the 1-5 spot with the new lottery odds and we miss out.
This is mostly null and void if KP comes back this season.
Dude, they already have 23 wins with 31 games to go. You think they are going 7-24 the rest of the way with Luka and Barnes? That isn't happening. If you want to make a bet I will gladly take the over.
I’ll take the bet at 10 wins or less on the condition that KP doesn’t play this season.
You have a deal my friend. I say >10, you say <10 (KP can't play this season).

Less than or equal to. Let me make that distinction now. Less than or equal to 10 wins.
And they are 23-28 at time of this as well.

Ok and KP has to see significant playing time for him to void the bet. A token, cameo appearance the last couple games of the season does not suffice.

I would only do it with a 3rd team that values Smith. Just doing it is silly, foolish and horrible GMing.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
Bleacher ReportPerfect Teams for Draft's Projected Lottery Picks
Texas Tech SG Jarrett Culver: Atlanta Hawks
Atlanta Hawks projected draft pick: No. 5
Jarrett Culver's latest mock draft spot: No. 8
The Hawks have built a strong nucleus through the last two drafts with John Collins, Trae Young and Kevin Huerter. Jarrett Culver would add a fitting element of two-way play from the wing.
With Huerter and Taurean Prince able to play forward, Culver, who's averaging 18.5 points and 3.9 assists, could slide right into the starting 2 spot. In Atlanta, he'd receive enough early playing time and touches without too heavy of a workload, given Young's shot-creation and Collins' potential evolution from role player to star.
A versatile guard who splits time working on and off the ball, Culver is well-rounded offensively, ranking in the 86th percentile as a pick-and-roll ball-handler while shooting 40.0 percent as a catch-and-shooter, per Synergy Sports.
He also ranks in the 97th percentile defending out of spot-ups for the No. 3 defensive team in the country, per KenPom.com, another selling point as a strong backcourt fit next to Young.

Re: 2019 NBA Draft Prep
Huerter may be listed as 6-7, but he's also listed at 190. I think it's generally understood... he is NOT a forward.
More importantly still... Schlenk is right... we are NOW at that point where finding and acquiring that CORNERSTONE player is requisite.
Cornerstone means just that... not merely adding a starter-quality player to the roster, but adding a player who you can legitimately envision to be 1st or 2nd team All-NBA at some point in his career.
I'm not nearly as infatuated with Williamson as many appear to be, but as far as I know, he's really the only player in this draft that has that level of regard by the measure of sportswriters who follow CFB.
So, JUST LOGICALLY, if you can't get him... or if someone else ascends to that level in the last several weeks here, get that guy... then IT MAKES NO RATIONAL SENSE to get excited about adding someone who is something less than that, no matter what position the guy happens to play.
Have to be prepared to punt... trade out and gain the best possible 1st round pick in a future draft.

Zion’s defense is starting to look elite. He could become a better defender than Draymond.
We all know about his blocks but his ability to get steals is a big surprise

I'd rather do the same trade we did with Dallas. Keep on stockpiling those top ten picks. Time to use the capspace on a vet pg or reup Lin for another year.
