So the raps arguably have a top 5 C, PF, SG, PG, Bench big, and bench PG.

This board really has gone insane, there are actually people who hate this deal? This is one of the best if not the best trade in raptors history. We just got one of the best two way bigs in the league with a complete offensive arsenal, amazing high post passing, stretch shooting, very high offensive and defensive IQ, he legit pushes our team to contender status and the top of the East just became ridiculous. We gave up absolutely nothing to get him which boggles my mind, not even a first rounder and two average role players? Incredible.

This also really pushes our chances to re-sign Kawhi. We also have to consider Gasol was unmotivated the last few years with the Grizzlies tanking. A reenergized gasol on a team featuring a lot of good players is scary for the rest of the league, this guy made the wcf when it was at its most competitive.

At this point I have to believe some people here are just chronically negative and will never be happy. This is the greatest raptors starting 5 and overall team ever assembled talent wise and they still find a way to complain. I can understand objectivity, but objectively speaking there is nothing wrong with this deal I just don’t see it. You want a team that’s going for it.

We still had the issue of two main scorers just like with DeRozan, that model would be exposed in the postseason especially with the improvement of the teams around us, we HAD to do this.

I've been trying to tell people

The guy has had no motivation to go hard for a tanking team

Plus he had to play with young inexperienced coaches like Fizdale and their current guy, also he had next to no wing talent to play off of

JV was my favorite Raptor, and I think Masai got a steal

Kawhi Danny Siakam on the perimeter on defense, with Gasol inside? In the playoffs where the game slows down and gets more physical?

It's over. East is ours to lose

Even though he’s 34, Gasol allows us to play faster. He passes quick and makes his decisions quicker then JV. We’ll miss that slow grind easy buckets JV would automatically give us, sometimes for huge nights. NBA has gone away from that though, I’ll be interested to see if Memphis can reload around an inside only type big like JV. Their grind house era with Z-Bo/Gasol was mildly successful back then.
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Let's be real. There were a lot less people complaining when Derozan was traded than this. And this is going to go on far longer and by more than two guys calling themselves Team Neutral.

I don't get it why do people don't think Ibaka and Gasol can play together?

Because the Kawhi Deal was the best trade since Ainge robbed BKN

You'd have to be a relative of DD to complain about that. You get younger and better in that deal

This is a steal too, but less so

I think Gasol can give us those buckets too

Honestly, offensive rebounding is the only area I can think of where we might miss JV, but the defense spacing and playmaking is too much of an upgrade to care

Plus against MIL/PHI getting back on defense to stop Giannis or Simmons is much more important than fighting for ORB

Too slow together and unless you're talking about one of them coming off the bench --- why in the world would you have Siakam do so?!????

I love that we get Kawhi Danny and Gasol after we fired him

Hope he enjoying Drummond like he wanted

Casey is the reason why we chose Ross over Drummond in the first place :banghead:

You would have the be a JV stan not to think getting off his deal and getting Gasol is bad. We gave up an RFA we aren't signing in Wright that we can replace in the buyout market. And a guy that wasn't playing in CJ. A pick in the 2nd that in 2024 that equates to someone currently 13 years old. A contract of 17 million for a bench centre at 18 minutes. Who wasn't an all-star.

Come on. Really. It's not that dissimilar. I'm just predicting the future for **** and giggles is all.

Honestly the more I think about this the more I like this move due to mainly 3 factors:

- Gasol is going to be playing with Kawhi,Lowry, Siakim which will take a lot of the pressure of his shoulders and will make him even more efficient on offence and better defender.

-We don't need him to play 35-40 min a game in order for us to win, he can play 25-30 min per game still be a dominant player but save his best for the playoffs by being fresh and rested not having to go through the grind of playing big minutes

- Motivation, he finally are playing for a title again after some really tough years in Memphis. This will bring the best out of him for at least this year and maybe next year also.

All in all great move by Masai while not compromising our future, he deserves an A+ for this one.
