No it isn’t. The issue is the salary. You can’t match it. Celtics would take him in a heartbeat. Can’t get there with smart.

I am on the side, that there was nothing out there that would have made this team that much better. The NBA trade deadline has really become you need to overpay for middling players. Of course the Cs don't need all these draft picks and young players, but that doesn't mean you make a dumb deal.

Yeah I'll catch up with the happenings and non happenings around the league later.

Wiggins to the Warriors and Mook to the Clippers is interesting.

Adding to what I said, I don't think any player that was traded would have made any difference in the Celtics this season.

Again, the issue is not the player. It's that we have more picks than we can use.

It's a good thing today wasn't the deadline to trade picks.

This year's trade deadline was so much better than last years! Yeah, I know, you're thinking, but nothing happened either year. It's not what didn't get traded, but rather what didn't happen. Last year was a disaster (I don't think anybody will deny that), and one of the worst things that happened last year was the trade deadline. All we kept hearing was how Tatum or Brown or Rozier or whoever was being offered for this trade or that trade. Basically, an unhealthy locker-room was made so much worst by all the name dropping and trade rumors that Ainge kept posting.
Now look at this year. Sure, no fringe trades were made, but I don't think I heard a single name being mentioned by Ainge in a trade. Sure, there were a couple of possible trade scenarios that were mentioned, but nobody on the C's was named in a trade. We can speculate as to whom might have gone, but there isn't a single player on the C's this year who heard his name mentioned. I believe that Danny learned a valuable lesson last year about not disrupting the chemistry of the team by name-dropping players who might be traded.
I think that this team's chemistry is just going to keep growing, and if we can ever get all our guys healthy (hopefully the AS break will help), that this team is in a great position to go far this year. I know it can be frustrating seeing other teams make deals, and thinking that we could have beat that deal or done a different deal, but honestly I don't think there was a single deal out there that would have helped us to another level, and by keeping the team in tact, and not shoving guys names out there for possible trades, that the C's came out today way ahead of anything else that could have realistically have happened.

Agreed. Not sure why there is so much outrage.

As for having too many picks - while it isn't ideal to have this many picks, it also doesn't necessarily mean we have to give them away for rentals.

Picks are always tradeable. And for those saying the Celtics have "too many picks." That's like saying someone has too much money. Both can always be spent. The time to bitch is when the Celtics have no picks (because they traded them for hacks) and you end up being the the person who has no money, because you can't buy ****.

It's a good thing today wasn't the deadline to trade picks.

I agree, as I've said above.

That said.... I feel like we're not managing the cap as well as we could be. I wouldn't have minded a move to set up a move come draft day. We are still in the same position where we have too many low salary guys. A consolidation trade now even with minimal impact on this season could have set up an easier trade come draft.

Say, Poirier and Green for Ed Davis. We combine 2 guys at $3.4M to one guy at $4.8M. Now all of a sudden on draft day you swing Davis / Edwards picks and get up to a $9M dollar player back without it being some complicated deal or a 3 or 4 for 1.

Zoya and I had a thread this summer (mainly his idea) about moves to get an expiring for trade ballast this deadline. Didn't happen. Now, nothing this deadline to set up moves for the draft/summer. Hopefully we can still pull something off come draft day, but we did nothing to make things any easier.

We aren’t in panic mode to make a big trade and there are better “mini moves” available in the buyout market.

If two firsts for Bertiens is the “one that got away” we did right by letting that one go. Everyone played musical poop chairs today. Nothing special really.

This is why Danny is sitting with a bunch of good players and other GMs are panicking.

Again, I don’t really care ab no trades I did expect it. I think a piece like bertans would have been nice for next year or the future when we have an actual real contender. He could have been our elite shooter etc. I also don’t really consider the bucks picks a 1st as it will be prob the last pick of the first round.

That being said I understand there was no trades to a banner now but all this it wouldn’t make made a difference is short sighted to me

I'm guessing that the assets other teams were asking for were Grant Williams and the Memphis pick, and Ainge refused to give those assets up. The late first round picks didn't get anyone excited.

Now we're complaining that Semi, Green and Wanamaker might not be back next year? Really?

Wannamaker has been solid. And losing assets for nothing is terrible management.

If team cannot keep them, or are going to cut them then move them

They have been making good use of those assets this season.

and they will lose them for nothing this offseason.

Sucks for Drummnd. Went from a bad team to an even worse team lmao. There were questions about his work ethic and motor pre draft which caused his stock to drop a bit. No doubt he was talented with intriguing skills as a big but if you watch him play or played over the last 3-4 years he has shown little to no improvement in his game and he tends to drift out of games like he's labouring. Sad really he could have become a top 2-3 C in the league.
