TJ Slaton already is there to play snaps at NT when Clark isn't. Not sure why we need a third NT and besides that, Ford didn't exactly shine in preseason.
They seemed to value their 7th round picks this year, although getting picked in the 7th round is usually no guarantee to make the team.

Have a hunch that we might see Amari Rodgers in the backfield at times this year
He'll be running some jet sweeps, so not exactly in the backfield at the snap.

Re: Packers 2022 Offseason Thread - Roster Deadline 3:00 PM Today
There were a few veteran Safeties that got cut in the last few days that I'm hoping we take a look at. I like what Abernathy did in the preseason but I don't really trust him as the 3rd safety.
As for Ford, this has to be a developmental stash for them. Heflin & Slayton clearly outplayed Ford but it's possible they see some tools they want to develop with him and didn't wanna risk losing him, it wouldn't be the 1st time Gute has basically redshirted someone. They are unlikely to have 6 DL active on gameday(it's possible they only activate 4) so Ford will likely always be inactive as would have Heflin and/or Slayton. If they can get 1 or 2 of Heflin or Slayton to the ps they can always call 1 up if an injury occurs and they need someone to play.
I'm happy but surprised they kept Toure over Winfree. Toure has more upside imo. Winfree was in his 4th year and at best was WR5 this year, but Rodgers kept praising him all camp so I assumed he'd be sticking around.
Keeping 2 rbs is interesting and I think a huge vote of confidence in Kylin Hill. I think when Hill comes off PUP that he'll be RB3 and the Packers feel they can get by with PS callups until then.
I wish they had found a way to keep Caleb Jones. I know keeping 11 Oline would have been tough but oline is such a weak spot league wide that it's hard to let any good one just go. I get why they cut him but I'm really hoping he gets to the PS

Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

I think he's the defacto third RB - till Hill returns. Then, there maybe another round of roster decisions Til then, Rogers is the "spare tire" in case of injury

I think you are right. He will be in that Ty Montgomery kind of roll before he became a RB. I also think they'll get one of those cut guys on the practice squad and they can be quasi available until Hill is back. So while it may look like just two RB, I think it is really more like 3.5 players that could be available any given week at the position.

Your description of Ford is the exactly what the practice squad is for. Which is the least likely to get picked up off waivers Slayton, Heflin, or Ford? I’d say it’s Ford by a whole lot. Which are more ready for playing time right now/this year? Either Heflin or Slayton. Yeah neither might not see much action but if someone gets hurt who do you want to take up those snaps? Not Ford imo.

Don't forget the PS rules where you can call up a player 3 times before he has to stick. If they get both RBs on there, that's six games if they need one.M-C-G wrote:Treebeard wrote:DanoMac wrote:

Because I'm an old softy now I feel bad for the guys who make the initial 53 and then get cut the next day as they make moves. Back of the roster churn is good and inevitable but it would suck to get all excited to make the team only to have the rug pulled before the first game.

Maybe pure homerism on my part, but that should mean the Packers have some decent players on the PS.

Interesting that some teams have claimed several players. To me, that means they didn't have alot of confidence in the bottom of their roster.

Yeah 6 claims by the bears is wild. Reminds me of the time I got drunk before my fantasy draft and had to replace half my roster before the season started.Treebeard wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:?t=3S8cll1gZpCUB7g6B66Dvg&s=19
