I think he wants to stay in the city of NY and also play for a contending team with good chemistry. Unfortunately he can't get both so he has to weigh his options.

Sure, if NY was a contending team he would want to be there. They aren't so he is planning an exit.

No coach, Lowry declined them. Lakers meeting won't be threatening for us I guess.

Bless you sir and bless Woj! Make merry and be of good cheer!!!!!

Not trying to be a negative Nancy, but Woj also said Lebron to Chicago was the most likely thing to happen, no?

I just don't think any of these "sources" mean much at this point. Still think we will know for sure by Sunday or so.

Jerk!

In leiu of SAS who for some dumb reason went on vacation this week, we need to go with Woj. He is all we got man.

Woj is not wrong, we long were the favorites for Lebron. Anyways, Woj is the best source in the NBA. If he says we're favorites if he leaves NYK, then 99% sure we are.

But this just points to the silliness of anyone being the "favorite." Whose favorite? The athlete's, or the pundits'? If all it means is that most observers (who have no inside track on the athlete's thinking) believe for whatever reason that the athlete is more likely to go to Destination A than to Destination B or C or D, who cares? Everyone's just guessing, and we're the most popular guess among people who lack the relevant information to KNOW. Just like with Lebron. That and a quarter will get us a xerox of a cup of coffee.

I think everyone needs to keep this in mind. Carmelo's people are actually traveling with him and have been since Monday. Unless someone is calling these guys up in between meetings and flights and asking them what is going on, there are no sources right now. Its all speculation.

Like with Lebron, I suspect that the people talking now are only marginally associated with Melo. The don't really have any insight into what is going on.

Let's just boil it down to what we know:
- NY offers him the most amount of money, by a lot.
- Chicago offers him the best chance to win, by a little
- He went to Chicago first and spent far and away the most time there

IMO, its all speculation after that.

Could be. I think so. If he was so smart about these things though, Lebron would be wearing Bulls red.

What is gonna be on tap for today, is that the Lakers are emerging as a dark horse candidate coming fast around the outside:
Wiretap:
If Anthony chooses to sign with the Lakers, Pau Gasol will give strong consideration to re-signing.

"If the Lakers get Carmelo, Pau will stay," said a person familiar with Gasol's thinking.

Its picking up steam today imo. Shelburn was mentioning as well. And I will remind you, the only specific team Phil referenced when asked for comments about Melo was the Lakers. "Kobe is very persuasive"

Hey, the Lakers can outbid all of us outside of NY. And then there is LaLa.

He ain't going anywhere besides NY or here. It's up to him if we wants to win.
Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

What does LA have? Kobe? We have Rose and he's younger. Gasol? We have Noah. Nash? Um, well I guess we have Kirk? Who is the Jimmy and Taj in LA?

LA has LA. And cash. And LaLa.

Just saying, this idea has been in the works for awhile. Don't think Kobe and Melo have not been talking about it. Thats why Melo is going there. If these guys have cooked up their own little scheme, you won't be able to make sense out of it to your satisfaction

And a late 30 something Kobe with busted Achilles and the corpse of Steve Nash and no Coach.

Oh and past prime Pau

LA is not going to do jack with that

Which is not meaning to say he won't pick LA

But then it's not about winning which is what he has said its about

And with that ....he may as well stay home in New York and be lead dog with a pile more cash

No show LA

The Gasol " I'll sign if Melo does ..." Duh. Laker PR plant

As a side note I am really, really surprised we are not hearing the "He's not a winner. He hasn't lead his team to anything" argument in regards to Melo from the usual lame contingent of posters. Hopefully that BS has died its final death and is currently roasting in the 7th level of hell.

It's weird that he's even meeting with the Mavs and Lakers. And don't the Suns have loads of talent + cap room?

I just don't see him going to LA for Kobe. If people think Melo is worried about Derrick knees he would be avoiding Kobe like the plague. An achilles tear is an almost certain career ending injury in athletic sports. Even more so at Kobe's age. I'm hoping he makes a miraculous recovery but Kobe would surprise me if he ever got back to 60% what he was when he last played.

The Mavs and Lakers have money. That should say something to everybody about this. Of course, the Mavs then pulled the rug out from under the offer and said it wasn't gonna be a max offer. Hence, a 2 hour only meeting where Cuban probably wouldn't stop talking and Melo was checking his watch.

The Suns, well who knows about that.

LA has the least odds out of everyone. There are no redeeming qualities at all.

PS: They are in the western conference as well. Going there would be career suicide.
