Liberals don't want taxpayer money subsidizing charter schools. And btw, do you agree that charter schools should be transparent if they take federal monies?

Not quite true. Liberals don't want money taken from neighborhood schools to subsidize charter schools. Charter schools are public schools so they are entitled to taxpayer money...but it shouldn't come at the expense of the neighborhood school.

And yes, charter schools MUST be transparent and held to the same standards as traditional public schools. Otherwise, how do we know if the money is being spent properly or if the charter school is doing a good job of educating its students.

Your correction is indeed that...correct.

I know you're not talking, with your incessant "Hey I've employed more people than McDonalds, me and my boy Trump have made more deals than anyone, i'm an expert on foreign policy because I hired mexicans" blah blah blah.... no one cares about your back-alley deals and shady business practices.

The problem with public education is that the assumption is that it is the teacher's fault/school's fault that our educational outcomes are not exceptional for every student. Every politician talks about the ills of our public schools. What about those kids who are great and excel? The reality is that education starts at the home. Demanding parents and self-dicipline are essential for any child to excel. To blame poor outcomes entirely on teachers and schools is absolving the blame. I went to public schools my entire life sans graduate school. Why was I successful? It was because my parents demanded that I do well, and because I had enough self-discipline (fostered initially by my parents) to study hard every day.

Read on Twitter

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Some long time posters seem to present a different demeanor in the politics thread than in other threads, and I generally try to take it all with a grain of salt here (easier some days than others; as George W. says, "Politics is hard work"). As long as it doesn't spill over into the basketball threads and scare away the peaceful townsfolk...although "idiot" and synonyms have been thrown about or implied a bit lately. Would be nice to tone that down a little.

Remember when liberals were pro free speech?

http://www.breitbart.com/milo/2017/02/01/protesters-gather-uc-berkeley-milo-show-police-helicopters-appear/

Nothing says you're an inclusive, tolerant leftist more than assaulting anyone, including females, wearing a MAGA hat, smashing ATMs, and setting your school on fire, because you don't agree with a speaker's political views.

I hope Trump builds that wall and brings it up to California.

Edit-I know most leftists don't support violence like this. I wonder if these idiots know how bad they are making themselves look? Doesn't UC Berkeley give out homework? I thought it was a good school.

I noticed at the womens' march these guys around the fringes, all looked young (17-25) and dressed like ninjas, no exaggeration, they were dressed in black, with black hoods and face masks. I could see people keeping an eye on them, as if most people there regarded them as juvenile trouble makers that had to be monitored so the couldn't start incidents. Intolerance and destruction of property, sure but the most disturbing thing about them: they acted like they thought they were cool! Like it was some badass role playing game!

Just about every descent-into-dystopia sci-fi movie has a scene where violent riots are shown on the state-run news to justify a crackdown on the last shreds of civil liberties. Haven't people figured out the optics of such incidents, especially in the readily recorded and disseminated information age? There is a history, going back to the 60s (probably further), of non-Democrat voting anarchists, communists, etc. being lumped in with Democrats, and often starting trouble. It's not always liberals/Democrats starting the trouble, sometimes it's groups with a different political agenda, or really immature kids dressed as ninjas.

As much fun as this is, I honestly can't take the day to day vibe in NYC or the US. I'm heading off to the Caribbean for at least 6 months.

There are currently no tolerable virtual or physical discussions it seems, only anger and/or rage. I'll happily be following the Wizards and checking in, but with a beer in my hand on the beach of golf course.....and a local community who could care less about US politics.

Maybe it shall make me more focused and logical we shall see, but to TGW's chagrin I will keep making money and employing non US-citizens.

Then your argument is not enough funding for public schools?

What is the liberal plan to fix schools? Feels like the Rs and the ACA - they don't like it but don't have a plan.

Where are these guys coming from and who is funding them? (Answer: Soros.) The media tried their hardest to associate violence with Trump supporters throughout the campaign, but nobody is buying it. 99% of the violence is from the left and everyone knows it.

Democrats need to ask themselves if this is the type of image they want to associate with. If not, they better put a stop to it. Otherwise, it'll be Trumpslide 2020. The riots in the late 60's didn't lead to McGovern. It led to a Nixon landslide.
