I expect Rodgers to be a good soldier for this year, guy has an ego and cares about his perception. Wouldn't shock me if you see a 'mutual decision' to split up after a season, he clearly plans on playing longer than it would appear we plan on him being a Packer. And that is okay.

With this messed up off-season I doubt Love will be ready to start next year. I would hope Rodgers plays at least 2 years. Plus they can get out of his deal better in 2 years also. Best bet might be 3 years unless Rodgers is willing to rework his deal which is unlikely.

As that previous article raised, there is legit an opportunity to move on from him every year after this season where you can make a good case.
If he has a good year, we could trade him next year at the right time and gain cap room, while also maximizing trade return and moving all the dead money up to swallow the pill at once while we are paying our QB 3M. There is some merit to that idea.
The out in his contract after the second season is something like a 15M cap hit followed by a 3M cap hit the year after.
But let's say he has a good season, you could flip him for two first round picks, maybe Las Vegas or Jacksonville, take the cap hit. Then the following season you have money to spend and you are adding two extra high end pieces to your team while the bulk of your roster is in their prime. That's pretty much my ideal outcome at this point. In 3 or 4 years, Rodgers doesn't appear to be a Packer, so let's make the most of what we can get in return for him IF they think Love is the future.

Two first rounders seems a bit optimistic.

So you think if he has a good year we trade him? That’s exactly what you say. Really?

No. I am speculating based on an article posted that outlines the realistic options if we decided to move on from him.
In case people didn’t notice there is jack **** to talk about because the draft is done and no sports are in play.
I however would trade him, doesn’t mean I think it will or will not happen. Lots of variables

It's pretty easy for me.
If Rodgers is playing well and Love isn't there, keep playing Rodgers.
If Rodgers is playing well and Love looks Mahomes-esque ready, trade Rodgers.
If Rodgers keeps declining and Love isn't there yet, keep Rodgers until you can afford to get out from under his deal.
If Rodgers isn't playing well and Love is there, trade Rodgers for what you can get.

If Rodgers is traded without another SB, will TT's tenure be considered one of the greatest meltdowns ever? Who expected this in 2010? We were poised for a dynasty.

I am as critical as TT as anyone, and he certainly deserves blame, but I don't look at it that way. Although he should have been icing the cake a lot better with FAs and deadline trades early, hard to argue the playoff losses to the Giants and the Hawks were on him, and Rodgers was hurt two big chunks two years.
But him giving us one of the youngest rosters every year through the 10's was stupid. As was the yearly persistence that there were Sam Shields-esque players in every UFA class.

Id like to include Casey Hayward and Micah Hyde. Players we drafted we let go.Jollay wrote:th87 wrote:If Rodgers is traded without another SB, will TT's tenure be considered one of the greatest meltdowns ever? Who expected this in 2010? We were poised for a dynasty.

Cant blame TT for the absolute melt down against the hawks would love to he absolutely waa a big reason why rodgers has only 1 SB but that hawks loss is 100% MMs fault for his incredible lack of stepping on the throat.
TT didnt help with his asinine moves in FA and his checkbook up his tight ass routine

The idea that you're guaranteed multiple super bowl wins when you have a great QB isn't really backed up by history.
Like do we consider the Brees/Payton era in NO as a crazy failure?
Sure I'd love more and there's some level of disappointment but I don't consider it a complete failure. It's really hard to win SBs.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

No, you’re not guaranteed multiple super bowl wins. But it’s the fact that GB has only made it to one championship which IMO is the failure.
If the FO was better at drafting defensive talent the past decade this team might be 3x Sb champs. If only though

Yeah, for me the disappointment is really us just not getting to 1-2 more bowls win or lose...even the SB loss to Denver, though painful, is still more memorable than anything 2011 on...
Plus I mean Cisco getting there twice in that period, last year after a complete retool mid-decade...ugh. though I do take our win over their two losses

Mistakes, but I can live with those. I remember the board generally understanding why we let them go with the young secondary talent we had (that looked a lot more promising at the time).
Of course then that was also the age where criticizing TT in any way was met with hysteria here. He was definitely in "my drafts and UFAs are so great I don't need to pay or acquire anyone" tragic hubris full steam ahead by then.

Football is a game of inches no doubt. Without Deshean Jackson, the Packers never would have won a Super Bowl with Rodgers. However, a few coin tosses and some slippery hands probably cost Rodgers a couple Super Bowls. This is why football is the most stressful, but fun sport to watch. I really hope Rodgers can leave with Packers on top with a Super Bowl title before passing it on to Love.
