Re: **Official Gm a Team trades/transactions Thread**
BYC defines the salary that's used to compare players for compliance under the Traded Player exception (see question number 68 for more information about the Traded Player exception). Usually the salary used for comparison is the player's actual salary. But under either of the following circumstances, a different salary is used when comparing salaries for trading purposes:
* The team is over the salary cap, used the Larry Bird or Early Bird exception to re-sign the player, and the player received a raise greater than 20% (unless it's the minimum salary).
* The team is over the salary cap, it extended the player's rookie scale contract, and the player received a raise greater than 20%.
If either of the above apply, then the player is considered a base year player.
Neither situation happened, since Sacramento is far under the cap.
Hedo wasn't signed using any Bird rights nor was he a rookie player or a player that received a 20%+ increase.

The Orlando Magic and New York Knicks have agreed to a trade
The Magic will send
Darius Songalia 4,526,000
Luke Jackson 710,000 (Unguaranteed)
Total : 5,236,000 x 1.25 6,545,000 >6,049,400
The Knicks will send
Jared Jeffries 6,049,400
We look forward to the many aspects that Jeffries can bring. His ability to play 4 positions on the court should make him a great fit on our team.

3-Team Trade between Dallas, Denver and New Jersey
DAL Trades: Sasha Vujacic ($5,000,000), Willie Green ($3,682,000) and TOR 2011 2nd rounder
DAL Gets: Kenyon Martin ($15,613,636), NJ 2010 2nd rounder and GS 2011 1st rounder (protected)
DEN Trades: Reggie Evans ($4,960,000), Mardy Collins ($1,867,742) and Sean Singletary ($736,420)
DEN Gets: Sasha Vujacic ($5,000,000) and Willie Green ($3,682,000)
NJ Trades: Kenyon Martin (15,613,636), NJ 2010 2nd rounder and GS 2011 1st rounder (protected)
NJ Gets: Reggie Evans ($4,960,000), Mardy Collins ($1,867,742), Sean Singletary ($736,420) and TOR 2011 2nd rounder
The trade works because Dallas is like $40 million under the cap. The amount Denver is shipping out ($7,564,162) * 1.25 is less than the amount incoming ($8,682,000).
The Nets do this trade because they save roughly $11 million in 2010/2011 when they are set to have a pretty big chunk of cap room. Losing the 2 picks hurt, but this trade ensures max cap room for NJ that summer even after resigning Webster and Krstic. NJ also gets a trade exemption worth $8,049,474.

Mavs accept. We needed to add some salary, and although it is for 2010/2011 also, i feel Kenyon is playing very well. Will be great here in the interim. Future selections help us here.

Nuggets accept. Not a very important deal, but we like Sasha more than evans and the others are just filler. 2010 salary doesn't matter.

The Knicks happily accept this deal as it saves them an extra 2 million dollars in 2010 without the Knicks having to sacrifice anything. Its also nice that we are finally able to make this deal with Orlando after trying to get something similar done since December.

The Blazers and Kings have come to an agreement on a trade:
Blazers trade/Kings receive:
DeShawn Stevenson $3,883,929
DET's 2011 1st round pick
Total: $3,883,929
Kings trade/Blazers receive:
TPE worth $3,883,929 (Created because Kings are under the salary cap)
The Blazers accept. Stevenson would have been riding the bench anyway, so we save some more money for the 2010 free agent sweepstakes.
We would also like to sign 2 of our 2nd round picks, Taj Gibson and Lorrenzo Wade. We waive the rights to Josh Heytvelt.

The Pacers accept, we have needed some big men depth and we think Jason Smith still has some potential.

Philly and the LA Clippers have announced a trade
Philly sends
Ricky Davis ($2,400,000)
Brevin Knight ($1,990,000)
Clippers send
Charlie Bell ($3,602,960)
Philly is very happy to add Charlie, he is the combo guard that they were looking for. This move frees up a roster spot so they are now not forced to waive one of their rookies which they are high on.

Clippers accept. It was essentially a salary related move for us. We liked Bell, but we had to make this move.

New York and Charlotte have a trade to announce
Charlotte out: Robin Lopez 1,745,520; indiana 2010 2nd rounder (top 55 protected)
New York Out: NY 2011 1st rounder (lotto protected 2011, top 10 2012, top 5 2013 and 2014, unprotected 2015), Francisco Oberto 3,800,000
- Charlotte has enought cap space for the trade to go through
Charlotte accepts. We didn't have much playing time for Lopez so we moved him for a future asset.

The Knicks accept the deal with Charlotte. We would have preferred to cut Oberto or trade him for a pick in order to trim an extra roster spot but we could pass up the chance to get Lopez. Whether its developing into our long term starter or being used as a trade chip for a S+T to aquire one of the big 2010 free agents we need all the young guys we can get. I hated to give up the first but I have 4 2010 second rounders to acquire another one and absolutely no intention of allowing this team to give up a lottery pick any time soon.

Considering our inability to make trades with some of these new GMs as they themselves don't seem to know what they want to do the Knicks would like to announce some roster trimming moves.
Marko Jaric and Etan Thomas are being placed upon waivers.
The Knicks have also agreed to send the rights to undrafted free agent signee Luke Nevil to their close friends the San Antonio Spurs for a 2011 second round pick.
The Knicks were high on Nevil but with Robin Lopez and Andrew Ogilvy already on the team they already had two interesting center prospects.

Knicks can't trade their 2011 pick, since they already traded their 2010 pick.
