Re: Free Agent/Trade/Waiver Thread, 2025-26, part 2
Walsh is the least of the Celtics' problems.
Queta looks like he still doesn't get it.
Baylor is just not strong enough.
Joe told him to be strong with the ball.
Bad news, Joe, Baylor is just not strong enough.
Same with the other guys that finished the game.
Amari Williams is nothing special.
Same with Shulga.
Bridges and Kendall Brown do not belong with the Cs.
Hopefully Cs cut some of them next week when the Cs need to trim down the roster.

But, at this time, he's too much behind. I think that we Waive him before his Guarantee Date, Opening Night.
He's an NBA player but not a starter and not a rotation player (at least on a contending team). He's an end of bench 11-14 roster spot guy - you need those but they are pretty interchangeable. Problem is he doesn't really have an elite skill
He's only 21 years old and has only played 2 NBA seasons..and wasn't able to play much during those 2 seasons because he was on a team that had tons of depth and talent..it was championship or bust in both of his 2 seasons.
So I don't think we have enough data to tell us definitively what he is or what he isn't.
This is a crucial year for him, though. But I figure let's just wait and see how it goes. I think he'll be here the whole season but if he's bad this year than it will probably be his last in Boston..
Scheierman is 25. He should get the gist of things, by now.

I wouldn’t expect any of the 14 Rostered Celtics to be waived this year. Maybe next year as Walsh, Scheierman, Garza, Minott are all team options or NOn guaranteed. If one of those dudes isn’t looking like an NBA player then could happen.

Walsh could get Waived before Opening Day, according to his Contract.

Yeah I believe that’s correct. I’m just saying I don’t expect that.

Yeah. Who on the current roster is beating them out?
On the other hand, maybe somebody gets cut from another roster the Celtics pick up, as is much more common in the NFL.

Russell Westbrook or Elfrid Payton for the minimum. Waive and stretch Simons to get under the tax. Start talking to Minott's agent about an extension. Minott is a good player and may be less expensive now than at the end of the year.

Re: Free Agent/Trade/Waiver Thread, 2025-26, part 2
We really only have two guys who can play PG. If either of White or PP are out for whatever reason, we have only one (and they can't play the entire game.) We know what things look like without a PG. Not a bad idea to have a third PG on the roster. I would not be upset with replacing Walsh with one, however that would happen.

Cutting 2-Ways and young guys in the regular 14 that are on affordable contracts won't do much to improve the team.
Problem is, those guys haven't proved enough to make them valuable in trades. Might as well try to at least get their value up instead of letting them go when the team can't afford to sign more established role players.
Queta might have some value around the league, maybe easiest to move as he's a decent backup rebounder at low cost. Walsh could be in a package with him or simply waived if a deal comes along that he's not on but the team needs to get below a tax threshold.
If Utah is concerned about losing Kessler, I'd offer Queta + 2 firsts, plus Walsh or Scheierman if that makes it work.
Kessler/Tatum/Brown/White/Pritchard + Garza/Boucher/Minott/Hauser/Simons would make for a very promising team come April.

The 2-ways are fine.
It's the other players who are signed for camp deals.
Right now the Cs have 21 players.
Get rid of the 4 to trim the roster down to 17.

There's no incentive for us to do that, though.
It would put us at only 13 players. The minimum is 14. There's no one better we could sign.
And Walsh is only 21 yrs old, has only been here for 2 years. Don't want to give up on him too soon and have another Nesmith situation.
We gave JD 3 years..why wouldn't we give Walsh 3?
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Yeah, 14 players are required for a team to comply with the minimum number of players.
Keep Walsh.
Baylor I think is more expendable.

We gave JD 3 years..why wouldn't we give Walsh 3?
Walsh has a $200,000 guarantee which he makes even if we cut him. That $200k will count on the cap. The team wants to potentially get under the tax with midseason trades, and that $200k difference could come into play later in the year. No chance we are waiving Jordan. Oct 22 is opening night and his full contract is guaranteed on that date.
JDD is actually looking pretty nice on Houston. He had 17pts the first preseason game and 8/2/3 with a team best +17 in Houston's second game. I would bet different factions inside the Celtics front office are already wondering if we made a mistake waiving JD when we had him signed for this year. JDD popping, or any regret about losing a player for nothing, makes waiving Walsh even more unlikely than it otherwise would be
Where is the desire to start waiving players coming from? Walsh is only $200k but Scheierman is $3 million or so. If we waive them, we have to replace them and both the waived player and replacement player will count on the salary cap and make it harder to manuever as the year goes on. And we need to get production (if possible) out of our picks. We picked Walsh, we spent two years time and money on his training, lets give him a little chance because we are running out of potential cheap contributors... imo, anyway
I don't think we're waiving anybody unexpected. We will waive Harper, Moore, Bridges and Brown and those guys will go to Maine. Maybe if Brown or Bridges won the camp, Luis will lose his 2-way to one of them. But the 14 guys we have signed, those are the 14 guys on opening night, I think

No big deal.
The 14 we will have on opening night might not be the same 14 we will have heading into All-Star break.
It's all good.
Just excited for the regular season to start and finally get to play fantasy basketball.

The deadline to stretch a player already passed in August.
Stretching is not allowed now.
