He's a millionaire living in America this is the worst excuse I have ever heard. His grandparents want to see his kids really? Mav fans are getting really desperate at this moment. I don't blame them this is the moment when the realize all is lost.oilfieldtrash wrote:VCRJKidd15 wrote:Deron has been living in San Diego during the off-season correct? I still dont get how this hometown thing even matters lol it never does in any sports unless its some old vet looking for his last stop. I Lol at anyone who thinks a team with just Dirk Nowtizki is even an appeal all those 50 win seasons dont transfer to the 2012-2013 seasonNetsFork wrote:I love it when people try to play up the bull "hometown" angle.
It'd be one thing if Deron spent his offseasons in Dallas or actually maintained an active presence in the community, but he's been out of the area for a good 12+ years now. This mythical Deron-Dallas connection that many agenda driven writers/analysts like to play up doesn't exist.
There really is no reason for Deron to even consider Dallas to be honest. I mean with Dirk on the obvious decline, and the fact that they'd have to gut their roster just to sign him... There's no upside to be found in Dallas.
It's time for Dallas to rebuild.
Hometown matters because Deron himself said his next stop he wants to retire there. What better place than where your immediate family is? Family counts for a lot. Maybe he wants his parents to be able to see there grandkids.
EDIT: Just realized i responded to a TROLL

I saw a lot of homer comments and thought it'd be interesting to dispute them. Not to troll just a little perspective from the other side. The dead end franchise was a little harsh. Does seem that it is a franchise that's on extremely shaky ground. In Dallas with or without DWill I have no doubts Cuban and Donnie Nelson will surround Dirk with enough talent for a 50 win team. Even if the Nets land DWill the playoffs aren't guaranteed. If they don't land him they are in rebuild mode and it could be 10 years before they make the playoffs.
Well, I don't believe you, but I don't really care about that.
Anyway, can you point out some of the homer comments? All we've been doing is reading/listening to his interviews and analysing what he's said specifically, nothing I have read hasn't been us 100% sure him saying he's staying, all we're doing is speculating which is that point of a forum. But please point out where you believe we've been making homer comments. If you do and I agree, then fair enough. To add on to that, it's been Dallas fans that's been making absurd homer comments, like the hometown angle and thinking that just Dirk by himself will make you guys contenders, seriously think about that, you guys just got swept, do you really think letting everybody go and getting Deron and scrubs will make you guys contenders? Bare in mind Dirk's 34.
We just got to Brooklyn and we were record breaking selling merchandise for the last couple of weeks, a few months ago Dwight wanted to come here. Deron has said nothing but good things about this organisation, we have pieces to surround him with elite talent, we have an owner with super deep pockets. How are we on shaky ground? And you accuse us of homerism?
Surround Dirk/Deron with what cap? You guys don't even have any draft picks. If we get Deron, who knows if our current roster is guaranteed play-offs, it's all speculation. Something like injuries always happen in the season and like this year when we were the most injured team. Fully healthy are you seriously telling me we aren't better than the Knicks? Or even the 76ers? Also, with the amount of draft picks and tradable assets we have, you might want to cut that rebuild time by 3/4 if we don't keep Deron. You guys however, once Dirk leaves will take years to rebuild
Not trying to troll you, but Dallas does have a draft pick. Its 17th.
I will say that I thought NYE'S post this started with was actually pretty accurate. Its about 50/50 at this point and really depends on who makes what moves to entice Deron.
As a side note, the brother is going to prep school in Jersey point should include the point that he is planing on going to school there, but included the idea that he could change it if plans changed. Of course, it looks as if that was only included by the author so take it for what its worth.

Yeah, I wouldn't play up his brother going to prep school in NJ idea too much either. D-Will's got millions and if he goes to Dallas or some other place, I don't think it would be that hard to move his brother to a new prep school in a new location.
I must say that things have been much more civil between you and our board over the past few weeks. As long as we feel like we're not being disrespected, we're a pretty good group.

Yeah, its funny because I came off wrong, had some facts mixed up and got too passionate. After just following for a while I realized that there are some guys here who know their stuff and that nobody really knows what is going to happen.
I thought back to the Chandler travesty, where he was saying long before he didn't think he would be back, then he was going to Golden State, then Jersey and he ended up on the freaking Knicks. It moves quickly and at the end of the day guys end up going where it is in their best interest.
I hope he signs in dallas, but would not be surprised to see him in Brooklyn.

We're typically a civilized group here, and we certainly love to debate (even amongst ourselves). But if someone from outside of the Nets fanbase comes here and attempts to start something here? Best be sure, you better have your facts straight, because we WILL call you on it, and when we do, they better not throw more garbage to support their point or the entire board will come quickly and dispute those "facts".
This is one of the smallest groups in RealGM (though will probably get larger with the move to Brooklyn), but this is one of the best fanbase in RealGM if you want some real hoops talk.
I've been trying to stay away from the Deron talks (and for the love of god I can't understand why there is still a Dwight talk!!!). At this point, no one really knows. I'm just ready for all of this to be over with and get the Brooklyn era started...with whoever we have at that point.

You say that and I'm willing to bet Howard would never want to play for Atlanta. Hometown is a BS excuse, if it mattered so much to him, why did he go to Illinois for college? Why didn't he stay home? Especially at that young age when most young adults prefer to be closer to their family
He went to illinois because he was recruited by Illinois. The only college in Dallas is Smu .. UNT (Denton) UT (Austin) TCU ( Ft Worth) He wasnt recruited by these schools some of them already had Point guards.

Well Dirk Did take 1 team to the Finals and win a championship with another being the on;\ly star .
So yes i think a team built around Dirk and Deron will comete for a championship.
"We just got to Brooklyn and we were record breaking selling merchandise for the last couple of weeks," I would think it would be pretty easy so set records in Mdse if you were a brand new team.
We have the 17th Pick in the draft . We only owe Houston a top 20 protected pick until 2016.

Where does it say the only colleges in Texas are in Dallas?
Is Austin in Dallas?
Is Lubbock in Dallas?

Austin is a 2 hour drive from Dallas.
Honestly, I could care less about the college angle from either side, at this point I'm just trolling you, cause well it's fun to troll a troll, but your point is gobbily gook.

Depends on how fast you're going I suppose... And what's in your car
But it's 220 miles give or take, so you'd have to be speeding the whole way and have no traffic whatsoever.

Yeah, no traffic, about 85 the whole way. Adds up about perfect.
