Re: Around the League
Nets need to load up on expensive contracts IMO. They started their cycle that way and you gotta see it through otherwise they will be doomed.
Either trade your expiring contracts for young prospects and first rounders (unlikely due to their real value under the increasing cap) OR trade your expirings for longer term contracts in the hope you can at least make the playoffs in the weak East.
My thoughts on the Bucks has changed a little - Greek Freak holds the key there. IF he develops 3 point range they'll survive but geez its gonna be tough on them. Flawed construction obviously

Re: Around the League
I didn't see a generic trade thread and didn't want to start my own thread for such a minor offer, but would you downgrade from Steve Blake to Brian Roberts for a second round draft pick?
Disclaimer: Trades I post shouldn't make you stressed or angry if you disagree. If you say it's unproductive because it won't happen and we're only allowed to post deals that actually happen, it takes away 99% of trades here and the fun out of the board.

damn sportscrazy, you working for PHX front office. This is like 4th day straight you be researching trades.
the problem is we need steve blake(currently) and Brian roberts just becomes another body on the bench. Though having seen what SVG can do with 2nd rounders, i am tempted.

Not sure if thats a downgrade. I remember Stan was actually interested in Roberts last year before signing Augustin.

Whomever's our backup PG between Blake and Roberts is just (hopefully) a fill-in until Jennings returns anyway. So if we're talking CHA's unprotected 2016 2nd rounder, I don't see how SVG turns this down. Blake has always been a stop-gap one year rental at best, so swapping him for another stop-gap one year rental PLUS a high second rounder is a no-brainer.

I actually am a bored Knicks fan trying to figure a way to dump Calderon and became kind of obsessed from the rejection of every deal I tried so far haha, but I think I found one.
Charlotte gets:
Traded Player Exception(s)
Detroit gets:
Brian Roberts
2017 Houston Rockets Second Round Draft Pick
New York gets:
Marvin Williams
Tony Wroten
Steve Blake
Philadelphia gets:
Derrick Williams
Jose Calderon
Future Conditional Knicks First Round Draft Pick
The Conditions Being:
2018 - Protected for picks 1-14 and picks 21-30
2019 - Protected for picks 1-12 and 25-30
2020 until the CBA rules a first round draft pick debt is extinguished - Protected for picks 1-10
As a Knicks fan I like it, I spoke with a stubborn 76er fan that liked it, Charlotte LOVES it, and Detroit seems to be open minded if the Knicks would prefer the triangle offense experienced Steve Blake in exchange for Brian Roberts at the cost of a draft pick.

Whoa whoa whoa, you sure about that? Nobody would bat an eye if Brian Roberts was sent packing but Marvo is kind of one of Charlotte's most important players right now. I seriously doubt they'd trade him for a TPE, they need bodies in the wing dept. since MKG went down.

From the Hornets board trade thread:
"sportscrazy wrote:
If you could dump Brian Roberts, would you add Marvin Williams as incentive even if all you got in return is a TPE for that outgoing package?"
Responses:
Response 1: "You bet I would. We would gain like $9M in essentially cap space, good for facilitating trades where we can pick up a good player or an asset attached to some salary... or here's an underrated one- we could actually use the excess cap space to re-negotiate and extend Batum to a big contract before he hits free agency- like Denver did with Wilson Chandler and Gallo.
Marvin has been good to start the season, but if we're relying on him to put up double-doubles, block multiple shots most games, and shoot 41% deep all season long, we're setting ourselves up for failure. I would dump his contract for that extra flexibility if I was given the opportunity. PJ Hairston can go with him."
Response 2: "Roberts, Marvin, PJ gone in the same trade. Don't tease me like that.

Re: Around the League
That second guy hates UNC players and the first guy drives the Marvin Williams hate-wagon. The majority of fans probably feel differently than those two.
Contract-year Marvin is probably much more useful than a TPE that will probably be mismanaged by the FO. They're in extreme win-NOW mode and aren't remotely looking long-term.
Now I'd do that trade b/c I also hate Marvin Williams but I have no faith in Charlotte using that money effectively. They'll probably just use it to pay Batum and Jefferson more money next year.

Re: Around the League
It's not bad for Detroit. By that point Dinwiddie might be given a chance so any "downgrade" (Steve is pretty terrible) from Blake to Roberts would be negligible. Until another scorer is added to the second unit (even if Johnson progresses like he should) it's not going to make much of a difference who's out there at point guard in my opinion. This type of move would be fine, although I highly doubt the Pistons could get any type of asset for dumping Blake.

honestly i don't like the trade, but that 2nd rounder man. I am sure SVG can turn that into LEbron , KD, or Anthony Davis
