Re: Butler has requested a trade (Part II)
Timberwolves did not change deal.
Total ****.
Deal was set if Heat could get 3rd team (SAC) to take Dieng.
Without 3rd team the deal has been stuck but Twolves have not change the core pieces.
Butler + Dieng for Whiteside + Richardson
Source (H) believes deal could get done tonight..thought it was done. Stein is correct in that deal was moving forward in last 48 hours. But SAC wanted more..they are not getting more.

I'm trying to figure out why Richardson is such an important piece when Okogie may be able to give Minnesota nearly the same thing as him in a year or 2.
Richardson is a good solid piece I guess but in a couple of years I don't think he's a difference maker on this team, just a decent starter, which Okogie might be by then also. If the tables were turned, people would be tearing Thibs apart to not give up Richardson for Butler, especially when Miami wants to move on from Whiteside, wanting to dump Waiters and Dragic is getting up there in age(32) but his style probably keeps him at a pretty high level for 2-3 more years.
If you want pieces for the future, the best thing would be wait till the trade deadline and let teams who think they may have a chance give up some of their future for a shot at the title this year and if it works out they can pay him to stay. Right now you're just getting offers from teams wanting to move some salaries/players they no longer want and also get to have Butler's bird rights.
Having Richardson and Okogie gives you two lockdown defenders and Richardson’s contract is one of the most team friendly deals in the NBA. If Toronto goes rebuild after this year you could try to move Wiggins there and move Richardson to the 3.
Sure, if Wiggins is moved, if not you're wasting money somewhere if Okogie may be able to give 30+ minutes on a rookie contract but only 15-20 is there because you're paying 40 million for the 2 guys in front of him.
It's simple, you gotta get as much bang for your buck if you don't have cap space. It worked last year because you had 2 starters on rookie contracts, this year looks to only be one and possibly next year none. You have to get some solid production from some very low priced players.

If you believe KAT is willing to make demands, “I’m unhappy! Trade Butler!”, then it’s hard to believe he wouldn’t continue to make demands if he is still unhappy with the incom8ng players he now has to play with. I don’t know if trading for Whiteside, who can only play center, does this or not. However, if he had started the “I’m. Unhappy! Trade Butler” demands, it’s hard to believe he would convert to “I’m unhappy, but trade for anyone, I don’t care, even if he plays the same position as me, was drafted in the second round because of his immaturity, and showed it when he was a locker room whiner when he doesn’t get his minutes.” Yeah that’s fine.
If you think the contract removes all leverage from KAT, and how much the Wolves need him, then that’s wishful thinking, and not connected with the way front offices treat franchise players.
I dont believe he is willing to make those demands, not for a minimum of I would say 3 years. Thibs will be canned within 8 months and they will replace him with a coach with KAT and Wiggins in mind. I think this year is a total bye as we try to get back to normalcy, I see little which would ever cause such a demand. The first year of a new coach feels the same to me, he will get his guy and I think the worst case scenario still takes 2 more years before KAT would get to that point. Either that or some unforeseen happening like Taylor banging his GF and posting pics of it on instagram.
From the sounds of it KAT follows him on social media, has eaten dinner at his house and hung out with Whiteside. I didnt know that initially but upon learning that helped ease any concerns. But like I said, I think Towns knows the situation and knows the reality of whats going on, he wants Jimmy gone. He understands that this puts the team back a step, that due to Jimmy asking out late that our return for him might be dicey. I think KAT also knows Thibs isnt going to be around beyond this year and probably just sees this as a season to come out and try to lead the team with a bunch of built in excuses so very little pressure.
I just think theres absolutely no reason to be thinking about this in such a dire way right now, I think its absolutely silly. To think the issue couldnt be resolved and he would demand a trade due to whitesides presence is beyond far fetched imo.

Nobody want to put big money long term on Cousins after that injury so he took a paycut to play for the Warriors while rehabbing and possibly showcasing himself in the playoffs, I believe this is common knowledge.
And if Anthony Davis had that injury every team with space would offer him a max.
I understand why hes in GS, but he is a special case. Other teams would have taken a risk on him but he has been the biggest headcase in the league since he entered it. Thats why he got a trash yield in trade, and thats why he couldnt get a long term contract, hes the biggest risk in the NBA.

Im wondering if all they were getting offered was 2nd rounders cuz the wolves wanted Miamis 1st?
Taking on Dieng for a 1st would be a great deal for the kings IMO. They can move WCS and maybe one of Giles/scal to unclutter their front court a bit and pull in another 1st IMO. I think Bagleys athleticism and Diengs solid all around game would pair well.
They have Fox and Bagley basically, and we dont know what either of those guys can be. They have a decent number of guys who could be solid role players but they need some stars. Paying Dieng the next few years wont matter, they arent winning, and he will be off the books before they have to pay anybody who matters.

Not sure if Davis would get offered the max coming off that injury, it's completely possible he'd not be the same again, Cousins is also 3 years older then Davis so that's factored in too.
Teams were rumored already lining up to go after Cousins as a max free agent before he got injured.

Or we could keep him and if Towns isn't a stinking liar he is already on record saying he has no problem with Jimmy at all so why not keep Jimmy.
I suppose, I just dont think he would do that for exactly that reason. I dont think Towns would either.
Regarding Towns, it takes effort to pout, 6 years of sulking and pouting is a lot of effort, especially when you realize its being ignored. Thats why I would try that route. Why tornado outside?
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
