I love the deal.
Signing Ingram is a no-brainer. I am not worried about that at all.

That's a pretty solid group.

Something around 30-35M is fine. 40M and over is Lavine territory
ok cool. we will circle back to this in about 6 months
I’m focusing on percentage of the cap. It’s possible he hits the 40 mil range.
I believe in Masai.

We’re back to having a bench with some huge upside in Gradey, Walter, Shead, Mogbo and whoever we draft. Thats a solid way to develop young players.

CPT wrote:It doesn’t matter if Ingram is a better player than the Indy pick. That isn’t some gotcha.
The Indy pick is unquestionably an asset.
The minute Ingram signs his extension, he will be a liability. The only thing yet to be decided is how big.
Locking in to (another) inefficient one-way player is a big cost in its own right. This is why I’ve previously said I wouldn’t take him for free.
Have to continue hoping I’m wrong, which is not the best feeling.
He’s comparable to many others you probably like - Jaylen brown for example - based on DBPM. We would be quite huge were we to play RJ at the 2 and Ingram at the 3 where his length plays up.
I believe in Masai.

This team isn't close to making any sort or noise, and we just gave up a 1st. I'd rather have used the pick to move up in the draff if Masai didn't want to keep it. Puke worthy trade IMO.
Why would you hope that the trade is worse for the raptors while being a Raptor fan? I don’t get it.

We just turned an expiring bruce brown, an old Olynyk, and a middling 1st rder into a talented player that has shown to be effective in certain roles.
I’ve been on the tank train this season. But this move (if the management can continue the stealth tank) can’t be seen as a negative in light of where we are and with hopes of competing meaningfully soon.
We go into next season with this roster healthy + a top 10 pick and hopefully internal growth with dick, jakobe, shead. How is that not something to look forward to?
Who says the Tank is over.... I suspect we're already in agreement about extension when trading him.
I don't think a small stretch of 6-7 wins is going to change the tank for this season. IMO, there is no point in making a PO push.
We should just try and get the best pick possible and see what summer has for us to offer.
Yup. I hope management does not view this as an opportunity to push for a playoff spot. If I had it my way, it's cycle one or two of RJ, BI, IQ, SB out of the lineup every game or most games for load management reasons, and keep pushing for that high draft pick.
Whether BI is a good fit or not, the raptors have to sign him. So Ingram playing for management to 'evaluate' his fit is irrelevant. He has value as a player in the league and will continue to have some value even if he's perceived to be a bad fit after whatever he'll show over the course of the next 30 games. So worst case scenario we need to figure out who to trade next, but meh, whatever. We've been doing that the past 2-3 seasons anyways, we can be trash in the mean time and rack up the talent via the draft while trying to score big through trades and building up our players perceived value around the league.
I think we're in a decent place.

hyper316 wrote:Johnny Bball wrote:This is pretty much a no lose trade. Or ...there's little they can lose.
They get Brown and Olynyk off the roster now, and get back to playing rookies and losing.
Ingram misses the bulk of the games this season and they tank.
No other team competing wanted Ingram because he's hurt. They give up a late first in two years for Brandon Ingram, who will be at best the 3rd option on this team by 2026. They could park him in the corner to just shoot threes and he has more value than what they gave up.
The guy is oft-injured. For that price, do they care the next 2-3 years, when they just play rookies, next man up? Or if he's around a short playoff run and misses 20 games....does that really matter that much? That's' why he's so **** cheap. Because he's injured right now and of no use to competing teams. Raptors aren't using that cap space on free agents so this is just punting the tradability of Brown down the road.
Even if they don't sign him, they literally could get more than they just gave up by signing and trading him away in the summer, although that's unlikely.
And what do they give up for not trading Brown and Olynyk elsewhere? Taking on worse players, that might actually play now and take minutes away, and some 2nd round picks down the road? Yeah... this is a pretty difficult reach for anyone to say they ever lose this trade badly, beyond some fluke career ending injury. Which I'm sure some of you might quietly hope for.
Good take, Brown and Kelly had no value, Indy pick not a great piece, a good buy-low on BI.
I'm just afraid what Raptors will re-sign BI for. Would BI be a plus-value on a long-term deal or a 1+1?
Long term deal over 1+1 for sure.

Re: Shams: Raps acquire Ingram for Brown + Olynyk + IND 1st
Pretty much 2 assumptions have to be made here in terms of Masai's likely thought process with this trade:
1) Masai believes the Indy pick will end up post-lottery (he's not betting against Indy in 2026).
2) Masai believes Ingram's extension and the rookie scale of our 2025 FRP will fit into the tax space we have for next season (currently at around $50M with 9 roster spots filled according to Spotrac).
If point #2 isn't the case, someone else is going to have to go to make Ingram's salary and the 2025 FRP rookie scale salary fit under the tax, and it's probably going to have to be someone in the RJ/Poeltl salary range for multiple reasons.
Edit: someone will likely have to go regardless, because they can't just sign Ingram and the 2025 FRP and run an 11 man roster.
Also for anyone thinking MLSE will authorize spending into the tax next season, that's a pipe dream, not happening.

RJ isn’t going anywhere unless he’s a total flop beside Ingram. I highly doubt that since Ingram creates spacing and shots for his teammates.

If i had to have an injured Player i rather would have Zion than Ingram.
Is that so hard to understand?

Great deal! We got another 20+ point player for bunch of useless players. Giving up another 1st... Who Cares!. How many rookies do you really need on your roster if you really want start winning. Now we need another backup C.
No More Tanking!
