Pompey's 3-4 now, including another triple, with a walk.

He may need to work on his baserunning and his bat against lefties is still very suspect.

That said, his stay in NH should be short if he keeps this up. I'd love to see him in Buffalo for the majority of August.

I think a Buffalo promotion this year is unlikely, but they've got to be sorely tempted to start him there next spring if he continues performing like this. They might give him April in NH to prove this half a season wasn't a fluke, and then make the quick promotion to Buffalo. He's looking like a good bet for a September call-up next year, if he hasn't made it before then.

I don't think so though, if i remember correctly he had better numbers against lefties in Dunedin, its a SSS issue

He did, but his K rate was also significantly higher against lefties.

The reports on him are generally the same; sells out for power from the right side, has a much smoother swing from the left.

So he may get exposed against left handed pitching at higher levels.

Like most rankings, there's a "pedigree" bias.

I mean despite the rough start Pompey is actually one of the best hitters in AA if you account for age, the raw numbers alone put him just outside the top 10. Combine his defensive and speed tools with the results he's shown with the bat i have a hard time seeing how you can justify anything outside the top 50.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of consensus about his defense. They have him graded 50/55 arm/field, which would place quite a bit more pressure on his hitting, and justifies having him in the back end of the rankings. Others seem to be quite a bit higher on his ability in center field, which would give him a higher floor and consequently a better rank.
