Why is Schalke selling to Wolfsburg? It's a legitimate question. Obviously Schalke is a little higher stature than Mainz, so silly comments above.
To Dare Is To Do? 13 League Titles. You've only got 2.

Because Schalke needed the money and Draxler has stagnated; and after last season with di Matteo really needs a fresh start. Julian was always going to get sold by them at some point, and with the way his injuries and di Matteo'ing have gone, this might've been the last chance Schalke could get more than the buyout fee for him.
Plus they've still got ECMC, Sane, Meyer, di Santo and, if he's brought back into the team, Sam; to stick up front after Hunter gets hurt. Nevermind the academy kids who could be ready for senior time this year like Gasilin, Boyamba, Skrzecz; and if things get really desperate they can re-call Avdijaj early With a midfield getting anchored by the likes of Geis, LeGo and PEH alongside a vet like Aogo/Hoger/Neustadter, that team has more than enough talent to get to the winter break in a good position if the new coach can undo some of the damage di Matteo did, even without Draxler. And if the new coach isn't up to the task, Draxler wouldn't have fixed anything either.
So cashing in on him here was the smart play, though they must be annoyed that the Sam transfer imploded and the KdB-Draxler moves didn't come before Shaqiri went to Stoke.

He's got a tough road to the starting XI, though. New Japan import Muto just scored twice last week. Probably locked in as the starting CF for now.

Re: AW: 2015-16 German Bundesliga Discussion Thread
Not to bring the pep stuff up again, but I like his obsession with perfection given the talent he's been able to work with.
https://twitter.com/TheAnalysisVids/status/638471931738607617
I'm optimistic about it, as Lewandowski was the Bayer coach I had the least gripes about since Jupp left them, but still skeptical just because I don't feel comfortable with all of the people asking me if Union is trying to push for promotion over the next two seasons. I know Duwel said that was his target, but I've been an eiserne fan for over 20 years now, we don't reach heights like that without making a stand about something and shooting ourselves in the foot. We're too hipster for success.
So I'm hopeful he can solidify our defensive cohesion without undermining our possession play or keeping Kreilach-Zejnullah from shining as the heart of our team for as long as we can keep them (Kreilach was first league caliber last summer and Zej will be in a year or two). So we can solidify ourselves as the team who plays the most attractive football in germany outside of the first league. But I'm still doubtful Lewandowski can overcome the mediocre defensive talent we have...unless he gets Puncec to finally break out and give us someone to partner with Leistner.
Though tbh I'm just glad that Duwel is gone. What he did for our possession game will be huge if we do ever play in the first league, but his utter failure to organize a defense or achieve improvement on that front; while pushing out club icon Mattuschka; makes his departure a joyous event regardless of the successor. So Lewandowski will get a long leash just for not being Duwel
...not that I don't still fantasize about Union playing in the first league and making a shock run to a european spot on the backs of the Kreilach, Zejnullah and Kramer midfield trio; Kramer will obviously demand Bayer sell him to us once we get to the first league, so that he can finish the work that his hero started in the capital...
Muto is another japanese attacker I like, that little island produces a bunch of solid-to-good forwards and AMs/wingers.

I wonder why no Bundesliga club tried to pick up Dimitar Berbatov. Poor choice IMO. He knows the league and is still a relatively capable striker. Plus you cant tell me he is receiving top wages in Greece right now.
Instead some clubs go for the likes of Vedad Ibisevic, Kevin Kuranyi or Sven Schipplock. Yikes.

Re: 2015-16 German Bundesliga Discussion Thread
I don't think Pep is a genius. But he gets less credit than Mourinho and has been much more impressive with similar talent pools to work with. Where most big managers give in to fear and conservatism Pep pushes his teams to play with courage and guile, even when out gunned; see the Barca-tie this season. And I have respect for that, especially when so many coaches rely on conservative/negative tactics to make the most of the talent advantage they possess.
Many over-rate and over-hype him, and he's not a genius. But he's a good coach who's philosophies and strategies have been good for the kind of football I enjoy. I don't want it to seem like I've become some fanboy who will defend him blindly; but he has turned me from a harsh critic to someone with respect for what what he's done and the abilities he possesses.

Now we know why he's injured so much.
BTW: Martin Stranzl's back training with the team for over a week and will play in a friendly against Sion this weekend.
Alvaro Dominguez is back at Gladbach as well doing more individuell stuff. Though, the clubs stated that his back problems are dealt with and he'll be slowely brought back.
Hopefully at least Stranzl will be good to go pretty soon, cause we need him organizing things for us.
Also, Granit Xhaka will miss the Hamburg matchup thanks to that terrible sent off(the first yellow was a joke and rather for the diving Clemens Fritz and even if you do give it to a Gladbach player, it should've been Schulz and not him) against Bremen and he'll also miss the first Champions League game at Sevilla thanks to being sent off during 2nd leg of last years Europa League matchup with the spaniards.

Gladbach won yesterday's friendly against FC Sion 2-1.
The good news is that Martin Stranzl played the full 90 minutes.
The bad news is that Patrick Herrmann suffered a capsular irritation and will be out for a couple of weeks.
Gonna be a loooooooong season for us...

Dude, you gotta sell him.
You're ruin our whole season.
Though, you can keep de Bruyne or Reus, if you like...

Re: 2015-16 German Bundesliga Discussion Thread
Somehow spazzed on Hertha having Stark. Hopefully BVB can buy Yarmolenko this winter so that they will sell Ramos back. That could genuinely be a pretty good team.
Stocker/Haraguchi - Ramos - Stocker/Weiser
Darida(Bektic) - Skjelbred/Hegeler/Cigerci
Stark
Plattenhart/Mittelstadt - Lustenberger - Langkamp/Brooks - Pekarik/Weiser
Kraft
Ramos and Stocker would be a nice start for the final third, Darida and Stark are really nice midfielders to build around, Lustenberger's a good CB, Pekarik the same at RB and Weiser has a lot of potential there, Mittelstadt could be a future international and Plattenhart has some talent...if Dardai can bring it out. Schieber's not terrible for a club of their level, and Ibicevic used to not-suck, but an upgrade there would really be a big deal for them. Even if it is "just" Ramos.

Mediocre move for Bremen. It's more a feel good story for Pizarro and Werder fans.
Dude almost certainly costs a lot and probably doesn't have too much left in the tank after basically not playing at all the entire last year.
