Lowe Pod had some interesting stuff. Basically all the same points made on here repeatedly that the record is deceiving, no coherent system, lack of Dame/Giannis two man game, gotta fix the transition D, shouldn’t play the guards and Giannis so far out, Pat has been bad which kills the bench, starters are fine, Dre has potential, need to try to trade for a POA defender with the limited assets, and Stotts bailing and Giannis checking himself back in where big warning flags.

The most interesting point was Horst scheduled a press conference for a couple hours before the game tomorrow. They were convinced that only happens because they already have the next coach hired and will announce it then. They think Prunty coaches tomorrow and new coach takes over immediately after.

Doc was supposed to be on Bill Simmons today and of course was not. Simmons referring to him as the new Bucks coach. Seems like it would be an all new variety of shock if Doc is not the hire.

So Horst and Edens read our Griffin/Doc poll a few weeks ago and then made the call. Good job guys!

Doc fits that bill. Atkinson does not. It’s that simple.

(And I think most of you realize this is all Kabuki theater right now for PR purposes. This deal is done).

This is all your fault for putting up a poll with only 2 options and one of them was AG. Horst lurking on Realgm.

I for one choose to embrace the not-Dr Grief era.

Is Sam Cassell coming back home with Doc?

I’m obviously happy Grif got fired and not excited Doc got hired. In his defence though those Clippers and Sixers teams were never supposed to win it all with their flawed stars. On top of that he does have a ring with the Celtics when given a roster that could actually win.

Having said that I’m good now with our championship hopes. Bucks are 2nd in the East despite being the worst coached team in the league. Most teams need elite coaching to win it all. There is a high chance just OK coaching is enough for Milwaukee.

Epi, explain yourself.

I think it's less complicated than it sounds.

You are promised you are a mentor and you will run the offense and AG runs the Defense and you realize you are none of those things. You are treated like an assistant no different than the 20/30+ year olds on the bench with you.

And you think about the NBA GRIND when you could be in Margaritaville on a sunny beach....

:D Such a great news to read after woke up.

Doc is real NBA coach. We already know that you can win title with him as head coach. Thats all we really need to know honestly.

We can talk about his mistakes and details (same as we did with Bud) but he is real NBA coach. Grief is just a guy who wanted to be NBA coach. Big difference.

Personally, I promise to focus on players for the rest of this season. There is a lot of problems there too (and we will need to be active at deadline) but at least now we have real coach.

Happy day

Was Griff just stubbornly not listening to Docs direction or was Doc just feeding Griff his own personal thoughts and opinions on how to improve and it just wasn't working because Doc is just like Griff and clueless? Has this been talked about yet? It’s a valid question in my opinion.

I don't think Doc was consulting him on Xs and Os. It was more likely a mentorship where Doc gave him advice on how to handle the season mentally from a personal standpoint etc.

Giannis, Khris, Brook, Bobby, Pat
5 of our 8 main players have a lot of practice with Bud defense. 3 years of practice for Bobbby and 5 years for others. I doubt they forgot it. And all are frontcourt players. Doc should just tell them to play defense like they did for Bud. For now.

That alone would improve our defense. Dame and Beasley are problems anyway but at least use our frontcourt the way Bud did. Protect paint and rebounding. We will improve rest with time (and with trade deadline)

I really hope that the team talks to Dame about the next coach. Giannis didn’t even know who Rick Carlisle was lol.

I bet Rivers told the Bucks that he can finish the season with the coaching staff that we have. If we hire him I hope it’s a one year deal so we can hire a real coach after we get knocked out of the playoffs early.

I think Stotts would make this team fun as hell to watch again.

I’m sure our D will look better immediately upon ditching Griff’s system, whether that’s good enough IDK. There’s no way this is a short term hire, hopefully its not infuriating

Doc is a brutal coach. His rotations and clutch time coaching decision are miles worse than Bud ever was. This board will want him fired before the all star game. Even worse he will blame his bad coaching decisions and lineups on the players. I bet Dame asks for a trade within a month of hiring Doc.

Rivers is botching one coaching gig after another and he keeps getting opportunities to coach loaded rosters

The good thing with Griffin is that he was so bad that it was a question of time before he got fired. Rivers on the other hand could prove mediocre enough to waste our 2-3 years of contention

I actually agree with Sid that coach doesn't matter much in NBA. BUT it still has to be the real coach. Grief is not and Doc is. Simple as that.

Doc relies heavily on his assistants. Really depends who he brings along

Agreed. Doc and Griff are so similar in that regard. They look at their assistants for what to do and then reach into the old school coach 101 handbook and pull out some medieval crap that EVERYONE knows hasn’t worked in decades and then blame the players for not executing it properly. I bet Doc told our front office that he is such a great coach that he can just go with our existing assistants. Anyone assistant worth a damn is on a staff and isn’t jumping ship for this train wreck.
