Your prayers have been answered my brother, Because in the great state of Geeeoorggia, Brother Timmy learned the importance of position defense. Now this sinner plays the passing lanes and tries to get into transition with a steal. His soul has been anchored, Praise Basketball Jesus!! Amen

This isn't 2010-2014 where the Cap was set at around 57 Million, There has been huge hikes which is why the past 2 years these contracts have ballooned. Granted we did overpay but you would have to considering hes a RFA, Just look at Otto Porter and his 100 million dollar contract (does his defense really make him worth Max Money?)

2010 NBA SALARY Cap is 58 Million, If you want to convert Timmy's contract to what it would've been before the ballooning Salary Cap it would probably be a 4 Year 40 Million dollar contract

58,000,000 x 17.75% = 10.3/ Year

2017 Cap is 99 Million-100 Mill

100 Mill x 17.75% = 17.75/ year (4 years 71 million) which is what he got.

As far as him eating space, if we trade Melo for expirings, or contracts that end in 2 years like Melo we would have 25++ million in cap space in 2 years, thats assuming the cap doesn't go up which it most likely should. In the meantime we can continue the rebuild and if Timmy develops the way he has we are looking at a starting 2 that would average 16-20 ppg, with good percentages its a spot we wouldnt need to look at Free Agency to fill. I would love to tank but I think we are more talented then the nets, jazz, lakers, pacers, Magic and tbh this move doesn't make us significantly better than the other teams around us like the Mavs. This is a lateral move that would pan out but hes 29 and hopefully in 4 years Porzingis/WHG/Frank develop into the players we expect that too while also adding 2 more lottery picks in the next few years.

I'm sure Mills isn't done, we can swap out Lee for a first round pick as well as KOQ/Melo

What a logical, sound argument. Kudos to you.

Nobody is going to give us sh*t for Lee now that we're essentially forced to trade him because we'll now have two starting SGs.

Overall Porter is better. Otto is one of the most efficient players in the NBA.

51.6 FG% / 43 3PT% / .628 TS% / 6.4 RPG

Those numbers are video game #'s greenie

That's cool.
Whatever.

They have to match to a tee. Hardaway will get the exact same contract no matter where he plays. Only question is who signs the final version, us or Atlanta.

I find it funny, I remember Timmy & Dion gunning it out at the rookie/sophomore game. Then the past 2 days, we're literally negotiating with both of them. Guess we paid Timmy extra for the good character. Lol

Here's where Knick fans fool themselves. Um, Lee and O'Quinn have no value when you have a league licking their chops to wait for the Knicks to sign and or trade by overpaying whether it be monetary or first rounders. This is exactly how every Team President since Dolan took over gets fooled.

This is the usual deal the Knicks make, thinking they are 1-2 moves from the playoffs when it's more like 2-3 years.

Don't count on it. You'll probably have to wait until the Hawks make their decision for all the other dominos you're waiting for to fall.

Didn't we just have a similar argument in the Marcus thread? If you got value, someone will pay for you.

Let's see if he does

"The Knicks have Derrick Rose's Bird Rights, so they can exceed the salary cap to re-sign him next summer if they choose. This is significant because it would allow the Knicks to use most of their cap space to sign free agents in the summer of 2017 and then also re-sign Rose. The Knicks can also sign Rose to a three-year extension before 6/30/2017 because he has been under the same contract for more than three years." Ian Begley last year

Is this true?

They have to renounce Rose to make this contract fit.

Lmao, Porter is much better offensively than THJR. He's one of the best shooters in basketball.

Alright maybe not Porter but just making the point that it is not terrible considering the market. He is better than you guys give him credit for.

I wouldn't be surprised if Atlanta matches.

I'm pretty sure if you asked anyone who really likes THJr to bet their life that he'll shoot 38% or higher from 3PT range next season, nobody would be confident enough to take that bet. Unless they were suicidal.

Is Timmy about winning? I feel like we just got JR Smith again. Hopefully Dotson can still develop here.

  Thjr is is not good enough to get you wins.

All he'll do is make the loses more interesting.

We are going to be the worst team in the league next year, and this signing only enhances that goal.

We still need to develop players. How are we going to develop anyone without someone to run an NBA offense at even a basic level?

Frank and baker can run an nba offense.

Frank/baker
Thjr/dotson
?lt/kuz
Kp/kornet
Wiily

That's a really fun tank squad.

what the Knicks never get is that players look better in a system that is better run. Budenholzer is a good coach and there's been stability there. THJ will look like the same THJ that we booted once he's in a Knicks uniform because it's the same clown organization without a plan or a system.
