no one has ever claimed markelle fultz to be a great shooter. what makes fultz a top prospect is his 3 level scoring ability and his pg skills in his 6'4", 200 lb frame. the potential of fultz to become a great shooter is there, because of his form and work ethic. people out here reaching so hard, mentioning evan turner in the same sentence, when ET only took 25 three point attempts that year.

some of ya'll are giving lonzo the benefit of the doubt to be a good 3 point shooter in this league when he shot 67% from the free throw line in college, but fultz is gonna struggle shooting from 3 Image

Looking forward to the day when I can read about actual discussion about Fultz's play on the court. Some of this stuff on this thread is laughable. Come on Sixers. Lets do this.

I already explained fultz has never been a good 3pt shooter and a pure shooter, his appeal as a player is creating offense with his very good handles, hesistation moves, vision and midrange shooting.

I still think it's reasonable to project Fultz as a good shooter, he's just strongly in this shaky category of 'tough shot maker' rather than 'pure shooter.' Tough shot makers like Fultz can hit shots at odd angles that require factoring in several different factors--stepbacks, strong fadeaways, runners, the famous hesi pull-ups, etc--but they sometimes struggle with making simpler or more straightforward shots consistently. Guys like Adam Morrison and Mike Beasley are that type of shooter, compared to purer shooters (who also make tough shots of the dribble) like Durant or Ray Allen or even Lillard or Rip Hamilton.

Guys like Fultz will often miss badly on some shots, or change up their form a little on different shots (arc often goes up and down too), and they'll also struggle with taking quick catch-and-shoot or feet-set shots. They'll also make ridiculous shots some times or go on crazy streaks were you they'll hit anything no matter how many dudes are draped on them (like Sprewell--a classic case of a TSM--or Brandon Roy).

Fultz seemed like a textbook one of those to me, and lots of guys have become very reliable in-game shooters that aren't super pure. MJ was like that, Clyde Drexler and Isiah Thomas too. Leading up to the draft I thought it was fine to give him benefit of the doubt with his shooting, maybe not to expect him to be quite as good as in college but not to expect him to suddenly lose that as a weapon. The weirdness with his shot now is obviously worrisome but I still see lots of reasons to be optimistic, just think it'll take time and as a rhythm player he'll really struggle to adjust many if not most games. (As I've said before, I think you'll love Fultz if you view him as a solid, streaky combo guard with good length and passing but might not be pleased if you're expecting to see signs of a savvy mega star from the jump).

He should be the primary ballhandler IMO, at least till Simmons improves his half court scoring.

The pre-edited version of this post used language that isn't going to fly on this board. While I appreciate you editing it, next time will be a warning.

That was part of my exchange with DBodner, Lloyd. He is going to die on the Fultz hill. There is not a GM alive today that would trade Fultz for Taytum + a lottery pick as it stands today.

Of course he's going to die on that hill. He's one of the draftexpress writers who pushed this Fultz nonsense onto the public.

Draftexpress needs to stay away from that FIBA under 18 tournament. LOL. They gave us Dante Exum as the next Kobe, because of that tournament. Then they had Okafor as Tim Duncan because he dominated there. Then they make Fultz #1 based on that tournament. Now we got a know-nothing GM trading two top 5 picks for a slow PG, who can't shoot, and who sat out most of his college teams games against any quality opponents. SMH.

We just have to hope the Lakers finish where they are now. We need to add more talents to this roster as it stands now.

lol yeah, shame on him for wanting to see how these guys develop and pan out before judging a trade. How nonsensical of him!

You typically don't even know how good a player is going to be until their 3rd year or so, it makes even less sense to judge a trade until everyone knows who has what, and we don't even know what the Celtics will get out of the pick we traded. We will likely keep the Lakers pick in 2018, and they'll likely get the pick in 2019. Knowing Ainge and his disastrous drafting track record, he'll draft another bust and that extra pick will amount to nothing.

Is most anger about Fultz due to the trade & injury?
I don't see any reason why Fultz can't be the best PG or best player in the Draft. He still has a good of chance as any other player.

I don't want the Celtics to get the pick because Ainge will just flip the asset for something better to another weak minded GM. But the best situation for the 76ers may be the Lakers finishing 5th and get this over with. At least the 76ers would then have and "unprotected" Kings pick as an asset going forward.

The majority of this forum wanted Josh Jackson over Tatum if we stayed at 3.

Hah, true, but he put it out there before the draft that Fultz was the clear #1, and hasn’t backed down from that. Shaky ground at best
