It's the only big weakness Embiid has, he cares too much about meanngless accolades like MVP, otherwise he would be resting and not playing some of these games lately, as he is injured.

Maybe it's because we don't have a legit back up center and we are in the mix for top team in the East.

Joel cares too much about what idiots say

he hates that "injury prone" label and the fact that it has been used against him...so he has decided to "tough" it out no matter what. He said as much about load management for example. He can claim to not care but he really really does about being "respected" ..which is a fools errand as the only thing that changes that is to win and you can't do that with your body in tatters

Yea, I can see both sides here. We want him healthy, but with Brooklyn out, our best shot at getting to the Conference finals would be getting the 1 seed and not having to play Milwaukee / Boston until then. Losing to Boston the other week hurt that though. If it becomes pretty clear we are locked into the 2/3/4 seed, I would rest Embiid much more down the stretch.

He's trying to play as many games as possible to help his chances of winning MVP.

He will never be respected enough unless he wins a championship anyway, look at Harden, he won MVP but is not respected at all, of course his antics of foul hunting and being out of shape forcing his way out didn't help but still.

When Denver-LeBron coach malone lamented that last night game was the worst he ever saw, he noted “Joel was imploring some of the guys to play harder, to try to get some defense in.” We weren’t sure if he was even going to play on a sore foot (and maybe those who advised him not to play and get the much needed rest were correct), but we can’t question his serious, competitive nature.

Yeah, that 1 seed is golden this year

The maturity, the level at which he's playing, the leadership, the all business attitude he's had. This is it! He is just now reaching the mountain top.

(W 120-119)
39 Pts / 7 Rebs / 4 Assts / 3 Blks

against Minnesota on March 7, 2023

Just an overly optimistic supposition: Joel has said that it is his chief goal to get to this year’s playoffs healthy. What if, as good as he’s been most of the season, and especially of late, he’s been holding back a little. I think this may be true, especially on the defensive end. I think he’s capable of creating a lot more havoc than we’re used to. Now, even taking into account how often we see him run out of gas in a regular game, which we can’t expect he’s only been faking, I think we’re going to see him really turn it up on both ends. Which is important considering that while we’re one of the top offensive teams, we got a long way to go in terms of our defensive ceiling. If Jo AND Tucker have another playoff gear, and maybe even Melton as well, we might be in great shape when the rotations get a lot shorter.

Well it's more like he can't be elite on defense while carrying the team on offense, someone else has to step up and reduce a bit his scoring load.

Embiid has been healthy going into the playoffs the last 3 seasons.

2020 swept 4-0
2021. Partial meniscus tear vs wizards game 4 first round early in game when he was dominant in game 3. Affected him rest of the playoffs. He had no lift as games progressed vs hawks.
2022. He was healthy till he hurt his thumb ligament in game 3 of Toronto series. Than the concussion and orbital fracture.

So no guarantees with embiid weird health history going into the playoffs or during the playoffs.

One thing that has me optimistic about both his short term and long term health is that he's learning to play more under control on offense. Harden's getting him the ball in space better and he's figured out he can just spam elbow jumpers all day, so at this point he's hardly ever getting the ball at the arc, trying to drive, spin, and yam it on whoever challenges him. Those are the plays where he really puts himself in danger.

How awkward will it be when Joel wins the MVP after not being named an All-Star starter?
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Watford/Barlow/Walker
Embiid/Drummond/Bona/Broome

This thread has literally nothing at all to do with James Harden. This is solely about Joel Embiid, James Harden has no connection to this topic what so ever. Lets at least keep it with Joel Embiid.
