Quick glasses hack- I recently went probably 6 weeks without cleaning my glasses with a lens wipe, just using the normal wiping cloth. I was starting to think that maybe the script was a bit off, my beloved picked them up and declared they were filthy and cleaned them with a wipe- which made me remember "oh yeah, you should clean them properly every now and then".

Anyway, it's like I've got a new script/glasses! So clear. :D

The grocers are starting to smell of mangoes, my friends. A little early in the season, but the time of great joy is approaching us. Blessed be, blessed be.

Been looking forward to Pearlman’s Tupac bio for months. Just came today and it’s as good as you would think. The true story of Brenda is impossibly good.

That's awesome news. Pearlman is a weird guy (we've spoken on several occasions for pieces), but he's an excellent writer and I've been wondering what his first non-sports work would bring.

I’ve got long history with him and TBH I don’t remember why. We used to converse a while ago. Has to be at last 15 years. I think it’s because we were both writing bad blogs at the time.

And now look at both of you. He's writing books and you're a retired mod on realgm dot com.

I like the whole point for an overtime loss in hockey thing. Sat down with my kid to watch their team (Seattle) play yesterday, they came back from 3-0 down in the third to get a 3-3 draw at home before losing in OT; it was pretty exciting, with still picking up a point you actually were left with some feeling of satisfaction beyond convincing yourself of “encouraging signs”.

It's basically a compromise for the very anti-tie American crowd.

Kind of surprised the MLS hasnt tried something like that for soccer.

It’s an interesting little bit of social psychology, I genuinely found it satisfying. I don’t particularly enjoy soccer, but growing up in Australia I definitely was raised by my parents on a sports diet of test cricket where a draw is a relatively common outcome so you’d think I’d be conditioned to not be too perturbed by it (it’s also a possible outcome in my favourite sport, Australian Rules football, but it’s a fairly rare occurrence).

There is a sizable contingent in the hockey community that would like scoring to go like this.

Win = 3 points
OT Win = 2 points
OT Loss = 1 point
Loss = 0 points

I could see that working- the 2/1 point thing does seem fairly generous.

Minor extra hockey observation to add- man, it must be hard to officiate with how fast everything is moving! The third goal for Montreal came from a power play they got for tripping, on the replay it showed the Kraken guy who was pinged for the penalty did have his stick near the Canadien guy who tripped but it clearly never made contact with his skates and the guy just lost his footing. As a novice to watching hockey it was both "how can you make that call?" but also "I can totally see how live you would make that call!". I don't think I realised until then that you couldn't appeal a minor penalty like that.

Any good at home workouts you guys would recommend that don’t require any equipment? Probably won’t be able to go to the gym regularly this winter and don’t want to give up all my gains. Want to avoid buying any weights if I can.

Interested to hear some responses here. I'm kinda in the opposite spot. I didn't go out and buy a ton of stuff, but I got a good incline/decline bench, and a complete set of dumbbells and kettlebells. Plopped it down in my home theater room to guilt me into using it. So far leg day has made me want to die just by doing a couple different versions of squats.

I still use the original P90X. I've used it off and on for many years and I like it (the best workout routine for anyone is one you like and stick with). But you need dumbbells for that. I also have kettlebells, I like them. And a Pilates reformer. I really like that too.
Yoga is a great workout even though I don't like it. Basic jumping jacks for cardio. Lunges.

There are tons of workout routines online. I just googled workout routines without equipment and a bunch of YouTube videos popped up.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

As you own a reformer, and do all those other things, I've decided you are rich and ripped.

As I'm now transitioning to old man ultra marathon running I just run lots and do weights sometimes :lol:

It probably depends on what youre trying to accomplish. Recently, my old man knees and shoulders have convinced me that I need to tighten some things up.

I haven't been much for the gym in decades so I dont know what anything is called. Ive been doing a series of excercises using just a a light pair of dumbells and then the basics. Push-ups, crunches, planks, lunges. My wife also has a fancy excercise bike that ive been using.

Im not trying to get jacked or build muscle though. Im trying to strengthen the muscles around my knees and shoulders to help reduce old man pain and be healthier overall.

Honestly, the one thing that seems to do the most good for me....stretching every night.

Stretching can't be overlooked. Whether you're doing it before/after your workout or just on it's own it's important.

I’m old (late 40s) and wanted to start playing basketball again. My ankles and balance and flexibility were awful. I was embarrassed the first month or so. Had to work really hard (reduce sugar and alcohol, run/jog, lift weights) to be an impact player again. But its possible to reach your fitness goals. My secret weapon is a free ap called “bend.” Do a 15 minute workout each day, don’t skip or take shortcuts. Its just stretches with demonstrations and a timer. You’ll feel 8 years younger in two weeks. You will start feeling athletic again. Throw in a moderate full body weightlifting routine (bench, curls, squats, plyometric jumps) and you can hang with beer drinking 28 year olds, or whatever windmill you are chasing.

Funny seeing this. Was just talking with my cousin how I wake up sore every day and I had been trying to do better about stretching. I usually have 30 minutes each morning wide open. Will be downloading Bend.
