Spurs getting Aldridge I understand but Meyers didn't have to do anything this off season and he won last year.

Should the award be based solely on the past 12 months of work - 2015 draft, 2015 summer of free agency and 2015-16 trades and transactions? or should the award be a multiyear award that looks back over several years of transactions? In theory, it makes more sense to judge a GM by several years of work, and in that case the Spurs, Warriors and Celtics would be top candidates. But if the award is only looking at 2015-16, then I don't see what some of those teams did to justify the ranking. My guess is that voters are probably half voting for one idea with the other have voting for another.

It's much easier to attract free agents to teams that are already winning or within large markets.

Cho should have gotten a bump based on being a small market team that didn't make the playoffs.

With no set standard it's all open for interpretation. Happens for every award.

I think a bunch looked at 73 wins and reward the GM for that. I believe it should be for moves made during that 1 year time frame and not over the course of a few seasons since it is a yearly award.

I personally think he should be higher considering the amount of moves he made and the boldness/risk of Batum's contract situation, but I can't discount anyone voting for the Spurs getting Aldridge since he was the prize of free agency.

Steven Adams was a huge difference in the Spurs-Thunder series. He's big, physical, and fast.

Looking back at that draft, here are some players Cho/Jordan passed on and picked Cody Zeller instead:

Steven Adams
CJ McCollum
Kelly Olynyk
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Dennis Schroder
Mason Plumlee
Rudy Gobert
Isaiah Canaan

Very sad indeed.

I don't think anybody thought any of those guys going into the draft was worth the 4th overall pick.

Noel would have been nice though.

McCollum was the first taken at 10, there is a certain amount of luck involved. Hindsight drafting always proves this

It's called executive of the year, not executive of the last few years.

I think it's absurd that ChoNet ranked as low as he did.

We had a huge "re-set" on our roster and totally changed our style of play from last season to the next - and ChoNet's personnel moves were key in that.

Wait, you would rather have Isaiah Canaan over Cody? The Zeller hate has reached new heights. I don't think Olynyk belongs on this list either. I'd rather have Cody over Kelly.

Got him mixed up with Ish Smith. :D . Was thinking 76ers, PG, putting up good numbers, first name starts with "I".

My bad for putting Isaiah Canaan on there. I'd mistaken him for Ish Smith. But emotions aside, there are 4 guys who were drafted lower that I would hands-down pick over Zeller.

1. CJ McCollum
2. Steven Adams
3. Rudy Gobert
4. Giannis

I've seen these guys affect games. And for Cho to miss that badly makes me think we should move on and hire someone else. I look at Sam Presti and his draft selections - Westbrook, Harden, Adams, Ibaka, Reggie Jackson. (I don't consider drafting Durant as any skill. He was already the best player in the nation in college.) That's the standard I'm looking for in a GM.

Don't consider that to be "miss that badly". Most "experts" and fans expected Nerlens Noel or Alex Len. Zeller is serviceable - i.e. not a bust.

I'd give Cho/Higgins/Jordan a C+/B- on that draft selection.

Does playing hindsight GM ever get tiring? Because it sure is exhausting from my POV

If you're a GM and get paid millions a year to select players, then you better hit a lot of home runs. That's part of the job - get high valued players and not let them slip to other teams.

But since I don't get paid millions, it's alright for me to play 20/20 hindsight and be critical of Cho's mistakes.

Cho interview yesterday. Nothing ground breacking but worth listening to. Says they are still looking for depth, first mentions a backup 3 / 4 and also maybe another backup big. Didn't mention Christian Wood, maybe the interview happened before he signed?

I love Kroeger, best in the business IMO.

I read on another site that during a radio interview Clifford mentioned that he and the front office have been looking at a lot of film to try and find a physical defensive-minded wing for the last roster spot.

Yup, just like the McBob trade, the Marvin signing, going after Hayward first instead of Lance, the Batum trade, the Kaminsky draft, and now the Bellinelli trade. This guy continues to prove me wrong anytime I think he's screwed up.

Lone exceptions being the Hawes and Neal acquisitions and losing Biz.
