This game is another example of why I'll always be a Westbrook fan no matter how much people hate on him.

Insane ending (48 points for the Wizards in the 4th!) Also, back to back 146+ point games for the Nets is crazy lol. Their games are always entertaining just because they can't stop anybody so it's always a shoot out.

Of course the Clippers have to play these guys next after the Wizards just pissed them off. :banghead:

It should be one of the most entertaining games of the season, at least. I still can't see the Nets winning anything in the playoffs playing this way, though, and the idea of the buyout market magically fixing their whole defense is still unrealistic.

The Nets are legit contenders and I could easily see them winning the title.

The Nets defense is absolutely awful and I don’t think some buy out guys are gonna fix it.

I truly believe both of these statements and my brain can’t comprehend it.

Theyre not legit contenders

Theyre like a more talented version of the 04 Mavs who lost in the 1st round with Finley, Dirk and Nash. Finley = Kyrie, Dirk = Kd, Nash = Harden

Theyre obviously more talented but its the same formula. Best offense in the league. Bottom 3 defense.

Back when the Nets traded for Harden, I posted this:

MartinToVaught wrote:Well, never mind about that mystery team. This Nets squad is going to be the modern version of Doug Moe's Nuggets at this rate. No defense being played and final scores that look like an All-Star Game every night.

This comparison seems to be aging better by the game. Someone on the GB pointed out that Moe's 1981-82 Nuggets had both the highest-scoring offense in NBA history and the worst defense in the league that season. Likewise, the Nets are currently on pace for the greatest offensive rating in NBA history and the worst defensive rating in NBA history.

Of course, now that I've mentioned this, the Nets will promptly turn into the 2004 Pistons against us on Tuesday and make me look like a fool.

Didn't really know where to put this, and might write an article on it some time, but man just digging through SGA's numbers to start the season and they're honestly Trae Young esque. His on/off splits are remarkably similar to Young last year offensively, almost everything is self created, and so far over 60% TS.

About a 27% USG, so not quite the same volume but....he's been really good.

And of their wins...2 of them have come against .500 or better teams (GS in game 2 without Draymond, and Atlanta). Otherwise they're just beating up on bad teams. Even then, 4 of their 8 losses are against teams below .500, including being one of the few teams to actually lose to a Butler-less Heat team. Their other 4 losses are against the only teams they've played that are projected to be contenders by the end of the season: Boston, Utah, Brooklyn, LAL. In other words, against the actual contenders on their schedule, they're 0-4.

This team looks figured out. Yeah, early in the season and all, but 19 games also isn't exactly a small sample size. And unlike a lot of the other teams, they haven't really been hit by injuries/quarantine at all. And they've done what people said they needed to do: they upgraded Bledsoe to Holiday, and they're playing Giannis more than they did in his previous 2 seasons.

Their defense was always gimmicky. Giannis in reality isnt really a Dpoy level defender like Rudy, Ad, Bam, prime Draymond etc. Not even sure hes clearly better than either of the Sixers duo. But the system really maximized his strengths as a help defender

The bucks were the best team ar ptoecting the rim --without brook lopez last year--. Giannis si the only player of any of the guys you've listed to anchor a -8 postseason defense or a -8 regular season defense.

This is a joke take. Giannis is one of the best paint protectors period. That he's also only second to davis in versatility among bigs is a great attribute but is hardly evidence of giannis bein ga "system" defender lol.

I would agree Giannis has a different type of rim protection and that his impact on defense was optimized in his role

But that doesn’t change the fact it was upper high tier DPOY level, he was the best defender in the RS last year by a pretty huge amount in terms of impact, and in ability he’s obviously great in every way with his motor athleticism and iq.

These nets got a lot of 17 cavs vibes. Insane offense and insanely bad defense..

I knew the nets defense was gonna be bad but two teams have almost dropped 150 on them now in like 8 games

The warriors never dropped 150 in their entire run lol

This dude Watanabe is like the best team defender on the Raptors and hitting 40% from 3 on SSS. Masai the scrapyard king again even in a poor season so far, Boucher's career probably peaked 2 weeks ago, it's cool though. Stanley Johnson looking like a real player if he can keep hitting 3s and Deandre' Bembry surprisingly closing some games. Terence Davies solid again. I think Malachi will eventually be solid even if his numbers aren't there yet.

Legitimately the funniest attempt at misuse of stats I've seen in a bit. Per CTG: a 114.9 D rtg when he's on court (would rank 24th among teams).

Is harden the reason they're bad defensively? I'd be inclined to think its just them trading away all their defenders since harden was clearly a positive on defense last year.
