once we fill our PF hole...

Post#1 » by netsforever » Mon Apr 12, 2010 8:54 pm

how opposed would people here be to signing RJ? He thinks he can opt out and get like 40$/4 years - which probably wouldn't happen, and we could grab him at like 7-8 mill for 3 i figure.

I'd think about offering RJ an MLE-type deal (we don't get an MLE this year right since we're so far under the cap?), but honestly I've liked the play our young guys towards the end of this season. RJ will want a bigger deal and role than we can afford in both capacities in my opinion. He will likely probably sign with a playoff team for the MLE where he can be a solid perimeter defender/2nd unit scorer.

I wouldn't hate the idea, but I wouldn't like it much and as others have said, he isn't worth more then MLE type money.

This sounds like the beginning of a story Yi doesn't want you to repeat to anyone!

ANYWAY, if RJ is so unhappy in SAS that he opts out for what is almost sure to be an enormous paycut, a few things will happen:

1) RC Buford will dance in the streets of San Antonio, since his first real misstep as a GM hasn't hurt his franchise at all. Then, he'll go out and sign a better-fitting vet like Grant Hill for 1/3 the price.

2) RJ will not sign here.

Our free-agent SF options this summer are LeTravalier, Johnson (at 6'7 and 230lbs+, he can play either wing spot), and Gay. If all of those fall through, our current trio of young swingmen will more than suffice, especially since backcourt minutes will be at a premium if we draft Wall, Turner or at worst Johnson.
Some people really have a way with words. Other people... not... have... way.

Even if RJ is unhappy in SA, why on god's green earth would he walk away from 15 mill? Seriously who is gonna give him 40m over 4 years? At best he seems a role player and he clearly hasn't come to terms with that yet. Whilst i did love him when was a net. I wouldn't want him back. We have done a 360 as an organisation. And IMO he wouldn't fit.

RJ should just suck it up and ride out his contract. Then take an MLE somewhere.
